  1. Batman: The Last Stand, anyone? Whilst I agree that The Joker's villain status could justify a re-casting, and that spin-offs/team-ups would benefit minor characters, this interview does nothing to enhance my view of Brett Ratner. Famed DC-hater Robert Downey Jr. as The Joker? Another Halle Berry Storm movie appearance?!?!?
  2. In my notes for future CR reviews of the Spider-Man series (minus 3, which I've already done), I've circled the question of why some fans don't like the Raimi interpretation. That said, I'll probably gravitate towards asking Des rather than asking Feral.
  3. I dunno, we could relive the pain for James' benefit, not to mention the epic that is Supergirl!
  4. Umm....wow. Do I ever regret being asleep for all this. Oh no, don't bait the guy.....
  5. I only talk at the urinal if a friend of mine happens to be there, or comes in whilst I'm in mid-flow. But otherwise no.

I got their mini-album Nightfreak and the sons of Becker a while back, and found it oddly compelling. Not a masterpiece but I could not stop listening to it. I liked thier self-titled album too, I don't know why I haven't got more of thier stuff. In that none of their standalone LPs are start-to-finish classics (and you'll be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of the band than I am), The Singles Collection negates your need to get the other albums if you have the debut and Nightfreak. Not to say any album's bad, and I recommend you try last year's Roots & Echoes, but I'd get the compilation first before you think of getting any other albums. DCAUfan - Nickelback love is not encouraged around here, if only because Des will punch you in the back of the head!!
  7. See, thats just the thing. The way you phrased it, Nolan's Batman. I would have such great respect for a film crew who would translate the source material accurately to film instead of a director putting his stamp on it and material getting watered down. 'Cause that's what happens. I liked 'Batman Begins' a hell of a lot, but it shouldn't be hold in such high regard as a highly respectably made Batman film. Erm.....why not? Because Nolan put a stamp on it? I couldn't even tell you what a "Nolan stamp" was and I've seen about half his work. Is your qualm that it doesn't absolutely stick to the official DC continuity of Batman's origins? If you think about it, the main villain is Ra's al-Ghul, who's probably the biggest foe of Batman's you can get away with introducing, pre-Joker. Casting any of the other generally recognised villains (from either the 90s films or the Adam West series) before the Joker would be a mistake, so it works for me that Scarecrow got used as a second tier villain whilst being menacing in his own way. The Penguin's a character who'd fit in a more evenly-stacked mob empire than the Falcone-dominated Gotham of Batman Begins, IMO. Agreed, although it's true of every blockbuster, really. Studios want a good romance element to reel in the female demographic It's all an interpretation. At worst, with regards to the origins story, there's no real way to do the Hush storyline, but without an X-Men: The Last Stand-sized cast, that couldn't happen anyway (and if it did, it would be a clusterfuck). Honestly, it's virtually impossible to translate the entire mythos of a character into a good Hollywood movie. On topic: I agree with Preston that there are quite a few ways to progress from Spider-Man 3 from where they left it, without needing a reboot. I know the Spider-Man has had several different cartoons and has had his entire marriage rebooted in the comics, but the current trilogy have grossed more than all other CBMs that aren't The Dark Knight, so there's no commercial reson to reboot this franchise until it underperforms, regardless of reactions to the actual quality of the film.

The Coral's Singles Collection. Along with its second disc of demos & rarities, this album makes me so very, very happy!
  9. First off, how would he know? Second, would they be if he actually helped them make them? Firstly, the handling of LXG could probably turn one off a studio for life, especially if you consider WB's general track record with CBMs. And in the same way video game fans don't enjoy VGMs due to studio disregard for the in-built mythos, Alan Moore could rightly feel that all his creative energies that went into the Watchmen book won't be reflected in a 2-3 hour film version. It'd help if he saw the films to confirm such hunches, but it isn't hard to believe why creators might not neccessarily embrace different mediums. And hey, I want to see this film. I loved V for Vendetta too. But if something you've created is being adapted for a mass market in a different medium by people who aren't going to give you the full reign you once had, you have a right to be a bit nervous about the end product.

    We got quoted~!

Gosh! That's pretty awesome. (Both a statement and a blanket endorsement for anyone wanting to promote something).
  11. God freaking dammit. I already own Birds Of Prey, and it's actually not bad. And hey, it's also in continuity!!! [/stirring] Sorry, I've just been compiling something for WFP and the amount of clips I've ripped about the Teen Titans "controversy" is insane. I'd much rather focus on all the dirty things Mike says, or James swearing, or the impressions, but I have to give over a portion of time to people complaining that they're getting more content. Jeez! On topic: Cheers for the link! I can't really dislike something I haven't seen, but Birds of Prey is pretty low down on my list of things to buy so it's nice that I don't have to get that. And I watched suavestar's youTube review of it, so it is on the list.
  12. I cannot wait to torrent this. I see the pictures and I....well, I enjoy them immensely.
  13. 3 stand up DVDs doesn't sound like too much for one comic, IMO. I don't tend to buy stand-up DVDs but my brother has 3 Bill Bailey DVDs and 4 Ross Noble DVDs, and they're always good to throw on. EDIT: I'll probably go and see this. Maybe I'm shallow, but a comedy film about amateur porn appeals to my demographic sensibilities!
  14. If I remember rightly, the Talia/Ra's episode of BB shows Bruce's scrapbook of past flings, which includes Babs. Personally, I don't mind bruce persuing a relationship with her in that Grayson's removed himself from both of them and Barbara's clearly always had an attraction to Bruce*, whether it's solely as his Batman persona or Bruce himself. So I can see it happening, although not for a sustained period of time. In that it was eluded to in BB, I think this movie serves to partially fill in the gaps as it came about a few years later. *Batgirl Returns, methinks.
  15. The Tobey Maguire hating upsets me.

She's nice, but she's no Anna Paquin

    Is it wrong...?

I dunno, was it featured on Project Walkway?
  18. I believe that's how it's always been in the comics, Kellen. But we can always ask Mike, just to be certain.....

    Recording software

I've been spoiled from my student radio days with Adobe Audition. I had it installed onto my laptop and used that up until this summer when Lappy finally kicked the bucket. I downloaded Audacity, but I just don't enjoy using it. So I'm using the Audition trial at the moment and when I get paid, I'm going to shell out £250 for my own version. It's a lot but if it means I need never use anything else ever again, I'll be happy.
  20. You're not alone. I know a lot of people who will admit it stinks, but like it nonetheless. Ian James Wilson, at your service! Selina: Straight up, I *like* Batman 89 a lot more than Spidey III, but I think the latter pays slightly more attention to what it's doing than the former. Don't get me wrong, Spidey III is a flawed film and a hugely disappointing comedown after Spidey II, but Sam Raimi put his soul into trying to connect the producers demands into some semblance of a believable plot. He didn't quite suceed, but he did his best by marrying up Peter's douchebaggery to the symbiote influence, whilst Batman 89 is - as Mike said - as holey as Swiss cheese. Still, there's only half a point in it, so it's not the end of the world. I hope! Oh and the Emo-Dance was fucking hilarious if we're talking about the one outside the clothes store. The one with Gwen Stacey I was less crazy about.
