Molly
Marvel and Netflix join forces for Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, culminating in "The Defenders." Daredevil starts in 2015.

Missy
I remain skeptical about Netflix focusing its attention on original content while continuing to provide its primary service; I fear one (or both) will suffer if they branch out too fast. However, to date, it seems to be working for them.As for this announcement: If it opens a new avenue for superhero dramas, and is a place where smaller superheroes and comic character can be brought to the masses, I am all for it.I hope this means they will be more adult oriented. When it comes to Jessica Jones, I'm hoping so hard for a gritty, dirty detective series. Dan
I hope this means they will be more adult oriented. When it comes to Jessica Jones, I'm hoping so hard for a gritty, dirty detective series. It depends on if they do the sensible thing and do Alias, or do the insane thing and do Jewel. Stavros
THE FUCK THE YES!!! That's LITERALLY the best case scenario. PUMPED!
Molly
Frank Castle *needs* to be an antagonist here. Fucking *needs*.
Missy
It depends on if they do the sensible thing and do Alias, or do the insane thing and do Jewel.I wouldn't mind a look at her fucked up past as Jewel, but if this series isn't about her detective agency, they'll have messed up big time. THE FUCK THE YES!!! That's LITERALLY the best case scenario. PUMPED!For me, "best case" is still HBO, Showtime, or FX, but I do hope Netflix and Disney push the envelope here. Frank Castle *needs* to be an antagonist here. Fucking *needs*.I could not agree more. I cannot express how much I want to see a hardcore, bloody brawl between Frank and Matt. For me, "best case" is still HBO, Showtime, or FX, but I do hope Netflix and Disney push the envelope here. Between House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Arrested Development I'd say they've made shows precisely in the style of HBO, Showtime and FX respectively. Netflix can certainly go as hard as a Marvel series would require.
Dread
Orange is the New Black had a close-up of a vag. I'm pretty sure that Netflix is unencumbered by anything ratings-wise. It is how much rope Marvel lets them have in the production that will decide it. I hope they do. They can have their light airy BS on ABC. Molly
I'm all about the "Oh fuck," moment Castle has when he unloads his clip into Luke Cage, and every bullet bounces off.
Missy
Good point, Des and Tom.I'm all about the "Oh fuck," moment Castle has when he unloads his clip into Luke Cage, and every bullet bounces off. That would be fantastic.
Dan
The Punisher would be the perfect runner throughout a series of gritty, street-level characters. And The Defenders as a team of street-level heroes (i.e., Heroes for Hire) makes SO MUCH MORE SENSE than the idea of a team of Doctor Strange, the Hulk, and the Silver Surfer, which would not work at all on screen (and arguably doesn't work in the comics). Sort of a "Let the Avengers handle the alien invaders, we'll protect people from serial kilers and urban vigilantes" sort of thing.
Molly
I still love The Heroes for Hire name, so much.
JackFetch
The guy that wrote Cabin in the Woods is writing Daredevil. http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/180307-drew-goddard-to-write-marvel-studios-daredevil-series
dc20willsave
That makes me rather excited. I almost feel he would be a better match for Jessica Jones but still.
NightAngle04
He also wrote on the last season of Angel and was on the writing team for a couple of seasons on Lost.
dc20willsave
Melissa Rosenberg, best known as the writer of the Twilight movies, is going to be the showrunner on Jessica Jones. Ugh. I mean, even looking at her IMDB page gives me next to no confidence.
Stavros
To be fair, no-one could have saved Twilight. And she also wrote a bunch of Dexter back when that show was great. This could work, especially if they're going to be highly coordinated series.
Molly
She wrote some of the better Debra heavy Dexter episodes. I'm not too worried, yet.
Dread
The OC, Birds of Prey and Magnificent Seven too. I'm not worried. You can't blame her for Twilight. In fact, it may draw people to the show that wouldn't otherwise watch it, which is always good.
dc20willsave
True. I was mainly looking at her Twilight, Red Widow, and Hercules credits but the other ones are fair points. I will argue that good work can be made from shit source material if you put some effort into it but I don't much want the topic to go running off in all directions. Dan
I'll link when I can, but Drew Goddard is showrunning Daredevil.
Molly
Good. Goddard ran the final/best season of Angel. I would prefer that the whole production was less "Whedon-y" but that seems to be what everyone else wants.
