Episode 01: ECW Barely Legal

Recommended Posts

Dubs, you mentioned that some of the most creative ideas in the industry have come from Raven and Scott Hall. What are some of the ones Hall originated?

Crow Sting is the big one.

DDP also credits a lot of the booking ideas that got him over to Hall.

I literally had to think for like 45 seconds what "Crow Sting" meant. I love Scott Hall more than almost any other wrestler, but is Crow Sting creative?

I can sort of see the creativity of taking fun-loving surfer-dude Sting to a dark, Crow-like place during the nWo era.

As for Hall, I have never gotten his appeal. Not in the WWF or WCW. Can someone point to his best moments and matches, because I really do want to understand why he's so over.

Wow. He looks older there than he did in his nWo days.

Probably one of the only guys to cut weight to go to WWF in the 80s. This comes to mind at best moments:

Not a lot of great solo moments in WCW other than mic work, but NOBODY caught dudes and fall away slammed them like Hall:

In his original run (WWF then WCW) he also made other guys look really good.

The Ladder Match I posted above is tame by today's standards but completely mindblowing by 1994 standards.

I mean: look how hard Razor works to make King Kong Bundy look good. He's working very hard. Very hard.

The original storyline that explained Sting's transformation, along with the year he spent in the rafters, was some of the best wrestling storytelling ever.  Of course, they bungled it all eventually, but having a guy just... not wrestle for that long and be this lingering presence was the most captivating shit ever.

I fucking loved it when there were a bunch of dudes dressed as him in the crowd and no one knew which one he was. Very cool.
