Reel Dread column topics: any requests?

I would like to see you analyze:

- When franchises go bad.

- The messages contained in George A. Romero's zombie films, in four parts.

- Bruce Campbell's cult following.

- Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson's transitions from horror cult geniuses to Hollywood blockbuster directors.

- What theme music adds to horror films.

- Scream queens, focusing specifically on Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis.

- Direct-to-video films which weren't half bad.

- On-set curses (i.e. the Poltergeist series, The Exorcist, etc.).

- Adaptations of Stephen King's writing, especially his non-horror work (i.e. The Body, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, The Running Man, etc.).

- Freddy Krueger's turn from vile, child molester to horror / comedy icon. (I've always found it odd that a child molester / murderer was turned into an idol of millions.)

And lastly...

- Pamela Voorhees: MILF.

I kid. :P

Here we go:

- When franchises go bad.

Already in the works.

- The messages contained in George A. Romero's zombie films, in four parts.

Already being done. I will wait on this to hopefully coincide with the fifth being the message inherent in Diary of the Dead although I already have my ideas...I don't know if I've mentioned it but Romero's Dead Cycle is the greatest franchise of films period. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings included.

- Bruce Campbell's cult following.

It may be coloured poorly as I am in the minority of not liking Bruce Campbell and the vast majority of his movies.

- Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson's transitions from horror cult geniuses to Hollywood blockbuster directors.

Again...two of my least favourite horror directors. Dead Alive has a chance and I may include the Evil Dead trilogy in a biographical type thingy.

- What theme music adds to horror films.

I will most likely be creating a subset of columns based solely on music.

- Scream queens, focusing specifically on Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Scream queens, yes. A focus on those two, probably not but they'll certainly be included. This may be covered in the ultra-deluxe Sexuality and Horror extravaganza with my super special secret guest host.

- Direct-to-video films which weren't half bad.

Just watched my first submission as far as screeners go. Look for it to be reviewed in November. My reviews will focus explicitly on foreign films, indies and classics. The Hills Have Eyes remake does not need press. These films do.

- On-set curses (i.e. the Poltergeist series, The Exorcist, etc.).

Excellent idea sir!!! I'll stow this idea away.

- Adaptations of Stephen King's writing, especially his non-horror work (i.e. The Body, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, The Running Man, etc.).

Three out of the four (if all goes as planned) November columns will focus on adaptations of certain authors/books. King will be one of them.

- Freddy Krueger's turn from vile, child molester to horror / comedy icon. (I've always found it odd that a child molester / murderer was turned into an idol of millions.)

I've been thinking about a Krueger column as the character is ripe for an analysis. I'm thinking of writing the prequel as a column in prose form. I may or may not do this.

And lastly...

- Pamela Voorhees: MILF.

I kid. :P

Hey, Miss Betsy Palmer was a handsome woman! :D

Awesome Yoda! Thanks. Anyone else?

Hey everyone, I want to resurrect Reel Dread in the new year and these two are probably on the docket along with an article on the "French Invasion" and, if I can summon the heart, the fifth installment of Romero's Dead Cycle.

Any others you'd like to see?

I have been planning the fear of childbirth/children for quite a while too.

- Torture porn in the mainstream.

- Where can the genre go from here?

- The descent of iconic movie monsters of the 30s and 40s.

- The effectiveness of short films in horror.

- The differences between Eastern and Western horror.

- Why Audition sucks the big one.

- Torture porn in the mainstream.

Love it!

- Where can the genre go from here?

I like this but it certainly requires forethought.

- The descent of iconic movie monsters of the 30s and 40s.

I take it you're thinking the actually monsters themselves and not the idea of monsters...could be good.

- The effectiveness of short films in horror.

Pretty sure I did this in the Small Gauge Trauma review and it's a horse I've kicked to death already on the show.

- The differences between Eastern and Western horror.

Again, requires a lot more forethought but would also be good.

- Why Audition is better than The Eye, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street combined

Fixed it.

Actually, I'd like to see a column about the idea of monsters and the relative dearth of good monster movies since their 30s-50s heyday. Sure, every now and then we get a Ginger Snaps or a Cloverfield, but unless you're subjecting yourself to the Sci Fi Channel Original Movie, a monster fan has nowhere near as many options as he used to.

I would like to see the Freddy going from evil child molestor to pop culture icon article if you ever wrote it Des.

Also it would be great if it could coincide with the new movie coming out if they ever get round to doing it.

A bit off topic, but the friday the 13th trailer is in cinemas now and it doesn't look too bad, not great or anything.
