Malpractice
Not only is it a matter of saving money (trades cost less) Well sort of, If you are buying issues full price, and trades full price, then yes 9/10 times it's cheaper to buy the trade. But through DCBS, it's usually cheaper to buy the issues than the eventual trade. But as you said it's more of a space issue.
Missy
Not only is it a matter of saving money (trades cost less) Well sort of, If you are buying issues full price, and trades full price, then yes 9/10 times it's cheaper to buy the trade. But through DCBS, it's usually cheaper to buy the issues than the eventual trade. But as you said it's more of a space issue. Not in my experience. For example, through DCBS Robin #154-162 would have cost a total of $14.32. However, the trade collecting those eight issues costs only $10.79. Even if one of them was offered at $0.74, the total ($13.27) is still higher than the trade. Along those same lines, Ultimate Spider-Man #112-117 would have been $10.74, but the trade is $8.99. The only time a collection costs more than the issues through DCBS is when you order a hardcover. Generally speaking, the average six-issue hardcover is $11.99 after the 40% discount. But we're not talking about those.
Guest
Daredevil by Bendis Omnibus, volume one Is this as awesome as it sounds?
Missy
Yes! Bendis' run on DD was epic, and is totally deserving of the omnibus treatment! I'd recommend grabbing the first Bendis / Maleev DD trade, Underboss, before committing to the $100 ($50 through DCBS) omnibus. Also, be aware that it will take two omnibuses to complete his run. Missy
You might want to place that order through InStockTrades.com. Except for the Atomic Robo trade, all of those collections are already out. Meaning, if order that batch of books through IST, you'll have your shipment by the middle of next week. However, if you place that exact same order through DCBS, it will take two months to receive; that's just the way DCBS works.
Guest
Generally the same price I'm assuming?
Missy
Sort of. DCBS has a greater discount than IST (40% compared to 35-37%), but there are other factors. For instance, DCBS has a flat shipping rate of $5.95. Whereas IST offers free shipping on all orders over $50. Excluding Atomic Robo, because it can't be ordered through IST yet, your above order would cost $114.94 through DCBS, or $115.44 through IST. Question is, do you want those books next week, or in two months? If you want them ASAP, that extra 0.50¢ is worth it. Also, if you really want Atomic Robo (and you should), you can always make another order through IST two months down the line. As much as I love DCBS, they're best for ordering monthly comic books and brand new trades. For older trades, IST is generally the way to go. Missy
With the exception of the entries in blue, which are books Jenny might order, below you'll find my May order. It's a sad state of affairs, really. So I want to add a few more things before I send it off to DCBS. But what should I add? Keep in mind, I don't like monthly books. Well, okay, the order seems to contradict that, but generally speaking, I only order trades these days. So suggest something! Koete
-Batman: The Black Glove HC has the excellent "Club of Heroes" three parter and a storyline taking a look inside Bruce's mind. -Astounding Wolf-Man Vol. 1: A werewolf super-hero is a crazy premise, but I dig it. Kirkman writing, excellent artwork, and twists and turns throughout. -Essential Doctor Strange Vol. 1: Collects the entire Lee/Ditko run on Doctor Strange in one affordable volume. Missy
Excellent suggestions! I've added: The Astounding Wolf-Man - Before I place my final order I'm going to reread the issues I have (the first three, I think). If I recall, I was sort of on the fence with this series. Criminal, volume two: Lawless - Loved the first volume and was shocked to see I didn't already own the second. Criminal, volume three: Dead and Dying - I didn't even realize this was being offered. What will it collect? Robin: Year One - I already have the issues, so I might not get this. We'll see. Thirteen Steps - Love the concept, but I'd like to read an issue before committing to the trade. But maybe I'll take a leap. Back Issue #29 - Though it wasn't until the 1990s when I got into the X-Men, I've always been interested in the Claremont era, so this will be a nice primer. Keep the suggestions coming!
Guest
Green Arrow Year One, if you haven't already. Actually, I think you might be the one that suggested it on the show in the first place, so I may just be going insane.
