Everything DC

On average I do think DC movies aren't as good as Marvel but I wouldn't say they were bad at all. I don't consider movies before Batman Begins "DC movies".

Superman Returns - The worst one in my opinion. I was just so disappointed in how they screwed it up. Superman seems like such an easy character to get right.

Green Lantern - Universally hated, but I actually enjoy it. A lot of the things it gets shit for is straight from the comics.

Man of Steel - Got Superman right in my opinion, but I didn't like the story.

Jonah Hex - Another one that is hated but I kind of liked. Not enough to go back and watch it again though. I will say that I never read the books and don't know anything about the character.

Watchmen - I loved it. I liked how faithful it was to the books.

Batman Begins - My favorite of the Batman movies. I love it.

The Dark Knight - This is where I'll get shit. I think it's greatly overrated. I don't hate it. I just don't think it's as good as everyone else seems to think it is.

The Dark Knight Rises - Disappointing.

My main response will be coming in a day or so, while I assemble my thoughts on the matter in a coherent manner. But I would like to refine my statement a little: Most - with one or two exceptions -of their output sucks.. etc etc.

But my first response would be to hold up Constantine and Green Lantern as first examples.

And my second is that Reeves' Superman and Keaton's Batman are my favourite renditions of the characters.

I don't think any of the DC movies of the last 15 years are bad. Superman Returns was a bit lame, but nothing base-breaker. Same with Green Lantern. It was nowhere near as good as it should have been, but there are worse movies.

The Nolan trilogy is still up there with the best. I know people like to pick apart the plots and say "They're not as smart as they like to trick people into thinking they are", but they're still some of the more gripping comic book movies out there. Until The Dark Knight, there's not been a Superhero movie since maybe Superman: the Movie where you were in legit suspense as to how thing would turn out okay.

Man of Steel is not a great movie, for a plethora of legitimate reasons, but it's not horrible either. It's more entertaining than Superman Returns if nothing else.

Back to that video tho, it was just announced that the dude who plays Roy Harper is leaving the show, so whoops.

Wondering what happened to that Lobo movie starring Dwayne Johnson? Director Brad Peyton sheds some light on it:

“I think what’s happening with DC is that they have prioritized what they need to make first in order to kind of lay the foundations for the DC Universe,” Peyton told ComingSoon.net this weekend at the San Andreas junket. “This is what I believe is happening just from what they’ve been taking about. They’re talking about ‘Justice League,’ ‘Batman v Superman,’ and going into ‘Flash,’ ‘Wonder Woman,’ and ‘Aquaman.’ Those are kind of the pillars of that universe.”

“It’s one of those things where, creatively, you and I get it, but there’s a lot of people that don’t quite get that,” Peyton said when asked if the success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy helped bolster the chances of a film based on a similarly comedically irreverent space-traveling comic book character. “It’s a real uphill battle to talk people into spending a lot of money to do things correctly… I was really happy with the script, [though]. I talked with Dwayne about it. Joel Silver and I had a really amazing meeting about it. I did a rewrite of the script and was really, really excited for it. In their estimation, though, he wasn’t one of those main guys… That’s fair enough. I think that, to do any kind of comic book universe correctly, you do need to establish, ‘Here’s the tone. Here’s the main people.’ Then we can grow offshoots from there. With Marvel, they’re now doing smaller characters like ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ They obviously had to start, though, with their big guns and set up ‘The Avengers.’ I kind of feel like that’s where DC is now. They’re setting that team up.”

Translation: This project is dead. Also keep in mind that Dwayne Johnson has since signed on to the Shazam movie, and has become a major player in Hollywood. This movie would be beneath him.

If it's in development, then it won't be out until Fall 2016 at earliest. Who knows what the CW-DCU will look like in over a year. And hey, if Legends of Tomorrow is only a mid-season replacement next season, and it doesn't come back in the Fall, then maybe there is a gap there.

I feel like they should just call the channel the DCW at this point.
