Bruce Timm's Explaination of Terry's Costume Vs The Batwoman Costume

terry's batman costume pre-dates the MOTB batwoman costume by several years, so it's definitely NOT an homage to her....also, the original batwoman costume from the comics was predominantly YELLOW....actually, if anything it's the other way around: i think alex ross did intend the CURRENT dc comics batwoman's color scheme as a kinda homage to terry-bat...i think he even wanted to give her an "all-over" mask (no exposed chin area) like terry's at one point...

i guess i was thinking "black with red = dracula" when i designed terry's togs, plus it was an easy way to distinguish it from bruce's black-grey-and-yellow outfit...nothing deeper than that, i'm afraid

I can't get the Mystery of the Batwoman theme out of my head. (It's not a bad theme, but I don't want it stuck in here all day.)

Thinking of the BTAS theme won't help, because a version of it is in the Mystery of the Batwoman theme.

show notes info:

in MOTB Bane played by Hector Elizondo who also played Krager in Justice League

Henry Silva was the original voice in B: TAS and S: TAS for Bane

I would have loved to have Burgess Meredith doing Penguin in the DCAU that'd be great but I liked the old original B: TAS voice compared to the MTOB voice

mike think of the JL theme :D or the He-Man theme

After I was done editing the show, something dawned on me: this isn't the first time Bruce has romanced a killer. Talia's one of her father's top agents, so she's clearly killed people, yet Bruce loves her.

It's been WAY too long since I've seen Mask of the Phantasm. Did Andrea actually kill anyone in that?

Of course, that would have been AFTER Bruce went in there and got some of that.

Yes, Boston Dan, Andrea killed. Bruce slept with her before he was absolutely sure she was the killer though.

To think, he was so paranoid someone was toying with his head at the end of Hush. His head is already messed up.

It's hard for me to consider MotB in continuity though; style/writing-wise, it's the weakest, and doesn't even stand close to Mask of the Phantasm or Return of the Joker. Do we ever hear of this girl again in the DCAU? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

Being crappy does not, alas, make it non-canon. Of course, if we could agree on that rule, it means the Terrible Trio never happened...

Superman's Clone burning a hole in his head was just funny and absurd. I don't know about you, but I think Mike was laughing so hard because there's no way to say "Super Power Tongue" in a nice manner.

Can you imagine using that as a pickup line?

Guy: Hello.

Lady: Hey.

Guy: Care for a drink?

Lady: No thanks.

Guy: I'm a superhero, you know.

Lady: Yeah... what's your power?

Guy: Super-powered tongue.

Lady: What can you do with a super-powered tongue.

(The guy smirks.)

Lady: OH!

Guy: About that drink?

Lady: At my place?

Guy: Sounds good.

^Hey, that sounds kinda slick.

I'll be taking this, thank you.

Bruce and Barbara should have never had a relationship. That is just wrong.

Hear, hear. The thing is, there's this flirty bit here, and a knowing smirk and an ambiguous comment in ...I think it was "A Touch Of Curare". I still hold tight to the belief that this is not as much as it seems. We've all seen situations where from the outside, and from one party's perspective, there's very little - a date or two, maye not much more, but the other party sees it as more significant than that. Given that we never get any confirmation from Bruce that there really was anything, I'm going to keep on believing that there was some flirting, maybe a date or two, but that Barbara has a much different idea of what this is than Bruce does. (Granted, Bruce is not exactly Mr. Emotionally Open, so the fact that he never had a heart to heart with Terry about how he felt about his relationship with Barbara is not exactly strong evidence, but still...)

There's a thread about whether Talia or Selina would be better for Bruce (I argued that he'd be terrible for anyone. He said it himself, "I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.") but there's no way I can see him dating Barbara. She's too..nice, bubbly, cheerful. If her IQ were 50 points lower, she might be the kind of woman that Bruce Wayne would go out with as a cover, but a real relationship? Can't see it. He'd be truly interested in women who were more serious, probably a bit older than Babs, likely with a dark side. Andrea Beaumont, Selina Kyle, Lois Lane, Talia, Diana of Themyscira...Barbara Gordon. ..one of these things, is not like the other things... Even Kathy has more of a dark side to her. (I still think that him ending up alone, never able to open up is the most likely, but if he were to try, I don't see it with Babs).

I also don't see him dating his partner - you could argue that his comment to Diana in "This Little Piggy" was a reference to a bad breakup with Babs, but I think that's more directed at GL/Hawkgirl.

Finally, even though they broke up, she's the ex of his son. I just don't see him being able to look at her in that way. Unless there's a new DCAU series that shows them dating explicitly, I'm sticking with the "Babs put more meaning on this than there was" interpretation. (And that's coming from the guy who usually does everything he can to justify what we see on screen. To quote Wil Friedle's other character, "That is just sick and wrong! SICK AND WRONG!")

By the way, he has the flirting with Babs, takes Rocky to dinner, dates Kathy, then chases Selina around the town in Chase Me. Kind of taking that playboy role to the limits on this disk, isn't he?
