  1. Sometimes two movies with very different vibes turn out to have a lot in common. Like a plot. And general goofiness. Kicking things off is a certified classic of science fiction, This Island Earth from 1955! Then, we're gonna gaze wistfully at an uncertain future in the stars while we ponder how much Star Wars we still had in us by 1984. Turns out a lot. It's The Last Starfighter!

  2. This week, we celebrate those ancient killing machines, the shark, as Desmond and Duane take a look at the brand new Stephen Scarlata documentary, Sharksploitation. Then, Desmond goes solo on a review of a controversial film covered in-depth in the documentary, Bruno Mattei's Cruel Jaws (aka Jaws 5). Songs included: "Main Title (Jaws)" by John Williams, "Fast as a Shark" by Accept, "Jaws Theme Swimming" by Brand New, and "A Swim with the Sharks" by Powerman 5000.

  3. It's been a year since Ian and Mike spoke about AEW, and holy hell so much has happened in those 12 months. Brawls, biting, singles fights, chokes, and thrown monitors! And that's just the backstage drama. In front of the cameras we've had, amongst other pay-per-views, All In (2023) at Wembley Stadium. Listen to Ian's live recap of that massive show, and stay for who the guys think will be next in line for all the gold.

  4. This week on the show, fairy tales are the topic. After some solo discussion of The Changeling, Desmond presents a review with Tom of the Eighties anthology film Deadtime Stories. Then Desmond goes solo again on a Dread Media Top 5 Fairytale Horror Movies. 5. This week on the show, we shun the format and start with Desmond going solo on the absolutely delightful documentary Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror. Then Tom joins him to look at the horror anthology film Horror Noire. (See where it gets confusing?) Then Desmond goes solo again on a Dread Media Top 5 Black Horror Double Features. Songs included: "Lord of the Night" by Skinflint, "City Rising From the Ashes" by Deltron 3030 feat. Mike Patton, "Film Noir Hero" by Schizoid Lloyd, "At The Movies" by Bad Brains, and "Christopher Dorner" by HO99O9.

  6. Viola Davis is our featured actor this episode. The Queen of Righteous Indignation reigns supreme across the covered films in the form of two August Wilson (no relation) play adaptations: Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Fences, and the big budget anti-racism tale The Help. The Brothers Wilson discuss her undeniably powerful presence in her work, as well as accidentally spoiling lots of plot details that have driven Pandy to despair in the edit. Plus: What did The Brothers make of Chadwick Boseman's swansong performance? Why is Pandy the victor? And, why is Ian part of the problem?

  7. This week, Canadian Desmond and his cohost Tom from New York discuss the iconic Canadian slasher film Curtains. 8. Zini the Incel Lemur, Audrey Hepburn in Iguanodon form, and the sassy black Styracosaurus are just a few of the memorable characters Christian, Donovan, and newcomer-to-the-show Harrison Chute encounter as they endure Dinosaur - one of Disney animation's most underwhelming and poorly titled offerings. (NOTE: The next episode won’t come out till late September. Feel free to feed back in the meantime at the Earth-2.net forums or at disney@earth-2.net.) [ download ]

  9. The journey from fresh-faced, innocent newcomer to crumpled-up has-been is a fixture of song and story from time immemorial. The library's copy of the Edda was checked out, though, so instead we focused on two ends of the music industry: 2001's Josie and The Pussycats, and 1984's This is Spinal Tap. One was way better than anyone remembered. The other was exactly as good as everyone remembers.

  10. Having not learned his Rumble Fish lesson, our hero spends six months with uncle Frank making The Cotton Club. Cage plays trumpet player Richard Gere's brother with gangster ambitions. The shoot was miserable, and the movie is interesting to talk about. Ha ha! Join Bryan and Desmond as they reckon with this movie.

  11. This week, Desmond and Duane watch two families become friends on vacation and then something else in the Danish / Dutch co-production Speak No Evil. Turns out, it's kind of the perfect Des / Duane movie, so then Desmond goes solo on a Dread Media Top 5 Previously Reviewed Des / Duane Movies About Vacation. Songs included: "Holiday" by Duff McKagan, "Got Your Tongue" by Me and That Man featuring Chris Georgiadis, "Vacation" by Devin Townsend, and "See No Evil" by Ghost.

  12. We pulled an audible this week when we heard the legendary BBC presenter Sir Michael Parkinson passed away because we had his contribution to horror culture already reviewed and ready. So this week, Tom and Desmond talk all about the BBC special presentation that terrified a generation of Brits: Ghostwatch. Then Desmond goes solo on a Dread Media Top 5 Scariest British Film. Songs included: "When Death Comes Crawling" by End Reign, "My Head Is Full of Ghosts" by Bad Religion, "Gravestones & Coffins" by Kataklysm, and "Soul Remnants" by Outer Heaven. RIP Sir Michael Parkinson.

  13. This week, we are once again joined by our old friend Greg Lamberson. This time, we talk about The Hills Have Eyes, teaching screenwriting, and, of course, the Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival. Listen to the rundown of the amazing schedule of the film fest and then head to the Dipson Amherst Theatre in Buffalo, New York from August 18-24th to take in some great new movies! More info here: http://www.buffalodreamsfantasticfilmfestival.com. Songs included: "Tomorrow's Dream" by Black Sabbath, "All I have To Do is Dream" by Dandy Warhols, and "Dream in Motion" by Kirk Windstein.

  14. This week on the show, we're talking about our imaginary friends! Maybe that came out wrong. First, Desmond and Tom review the Shudder original Daniel Isn't Real. Then Desmond goes solo on a Dread Media Top 5 Imaginary Friend Stories Across Media. Songs included: "Imaginary Days" by Mark Morton, "F(r)iend" by In Flames, "My Poor Friend Me" by Bad Religion, and "A Dialogue in B Flat Minor" by In Flames. And this is likely the first time in the 832-week run of this show that Desmond realized he's played the same artist twice in one episode while writing the show notes. Oh well.

  15. Divisive drummers, no one's favorite Betty Rubble, and the one and only Brian Blessed dominate the discussion as Christian and Donovan tackle Tarzan - widely regarded as the final entry in Disney's renowned Renaissance (as well as one leaps and bounds better than its source material). 16. This week on the show, Desmond and Duane reckon with the mockumentary Wrinkles the Clown. Then, Desmond goes solo on a Dread Media Top 5 Genre Mockumentaries. Songs included: "Tears of a Clown" by Iron Maiden, "Sweet Licks (Music from Clowns 3D)" by Slash, "A Joke, A Fraud, A Fake" by Iron Reagan, and "Counterfeit" by Limp Bizkit.

  17. This week, one of Dread Media's oldest friends, Chris Alexander, returns after 13 years to catch up. We talk about everything from a look back at his days with Fangoria, Rue Morge Magazine, and Rue Morgue Radio to his films and his thoughts on Rob Zombie, James Wan, and much more. But, mainly, we talk about his brand new book Corman / Poe: Interviews and Essays Exploring the Making of Roger Corman's Edgar Allan Poe Films, 1960-1964. Then, Chris sticks around to do our own Double Dread Media Top 5 Favorite Corman / Poe films!
