Hey, look! Big Damn Heroes is legal to drink! And with the batch of episodes Will and Hannah are covering this week, they're gonna need it. Why does everyone want to fuck Riley? Where does female genital mutilation come into the picture? Where's the overarching season plot been hiding? And which of these episodes has a genuinely good twist and is also terrifying? Join the Heroes as they cover Buffy's "The I in Team" and "Goodbye, Iowa," and Angel's "She" and "I've Got You Under My Skin." And don't forget to do the Creep! Episode 235

In an episode dedicated to the Winnipeg-based independent film collective Astron-6, Desmond and Darryll take a look at their grindhouse homage, Father's Day. Then Desmond goes solo on their short film omnibus, Astron-6 Collection. All this, and songs galore! "Sins of the Father" by Black Sabbath, "Father" by The Misfits, "Tribute" by Tenacious D, "How Heavy this Axe" by The Sword, and "Insane" by Scars on Broadway all get spins this week! 6. Hey, Dropped D listeners! Did you think, like others, that perhaps last episode was light in the tangent department? Well, this is the episode for you! They went on a long tangent before recording, began the episode on a long tangent, and indulged in several tangents of varying length during the episode. In fact, as you listen to this right now, Desmond and Damien are still having a lengthy conversation about Art Deco architectural style on the west coast of North America. They both think it's quite droll. See you next time! Also: Smash and Ixnay on the Hombre are the two albums being discussed this week. 7. In this episode of The Last Podcast: Is "The Runaway" a forgotten treasure, or should it simply be forgotten? In "The Puppetmaster," should we feel sympathy for the plight of of the titular character, or scorn for what she has become? And is "Nightmares and Daydreams" really necessary? These questions, and many more, are discussed inside. [ 1:02:08 || 30.1 MB ] To listen, click here: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/avatarthelastpodcast/episodes/avatar_017.mp3
  8. It's the 100th episode, and the BECK-travaganza continues as Kellen is joined by Michael David Sims to review the first five episodes of BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. 9. It's two months overdue, but Chris and Desmond are back to talk about five more issues of Tomb of Dracula! More specifically, Tomb of Dracula #24-27 and Giant-Size Dracula #2. But first, they pay tribute to several comics professionals who have recently passed away. Yes, it was a while ago at this point, but these guys still deserve their tribute. Then, when it's time to dive into the comics, the two look at the sexual escapades of Blade, the introduction of Hannibal King to the Dracula mythos, odd synchronicity, Taj-dickery, and the moon's intense illness. 10. In "Time and The Rani," Sylvester McCoy, the final classic-era Doctor, makes his not-so-grand debut by wearing a Colin Baker wig, pratfalling, playing the spoons, screwing up common phrases, and stopping The Rani by letting her escape. Also, Dan has feelings about the opening credits (and they're not warm or fuzzy), and an old friend returns to the show. Episode 20

Big Damn Heroes' 20th episode is here, and it kicks off with Hannah baking the shit out of things! There is some major geekery over the new Avengers trailer, clip monkeys are summoned, an episode title is sung as GIR, Giles has the worst day ever, Hannah causes the audience to unintentionally get into Batman slash, Will reveals his fetishes, Hannah summarizes an entire episode in a single never-ending scream, and everyone gets hit over the head with the obvious season theme hammer! Join Hannah and Will as they cover Buffy's "Doomed" and "A New Man," and Angel's "Somnambulist" and "Expecting." Dave and Ian embark upon season three of Blake's 7. In "Aftermath," after battling an armada trying to invade the galaxy, the crew abandons a badly damaged Liberator, and Avon meets new allies and an old enemy. In "Powerplay," Avon finds the Liberator occupied by Federation troops. He and Dayna must find a murderer and retake the ship while Vila and Cally are cared for by people who aren't as benevolent as they appear. The boys from Britain also discuss new members of the crew, debate what is "The Web" of Star Trek, and which of the episodes discussed is an allegory for Britain's current government. Episode 233

This week, it's a Dread Media lovefest! Desmond and Darryll take a look at the honeymoon-gone-wrong / lesbian-vampire feature Shiver of the Vampire. Devil Dinosaur, Jr. takes a look at the classic Valentine's Day horror film My Bloody Valentine in a new edition of Stay Scary. Desmond returns for a solo look at The Devil's Rock, as a man deals with the loss of his wife while taking on Nazis and demons. And Tom Deja is here once again to pitch a sexy sapphic film the only way he knows how - through song - in a brand new Macabre Musical Theatre! Speaking of music: "Bleed 2 Feed" by CC Adcock and The Lafayette Marquis, "Stained Glass Cross" by Down, "The Ballad of Harry Warden" by John McDermott, "She" by The Damned, and "Threshhold" by Slayer. 17. Get your "whoas" and "yeahs" ready! The Offspring era has begun! Desmond will make sure to type "The Offspring" in the show notes all of the time because, for damned sure, he won't be saying it in the show. But that's okay, because Damien is very accepting of this shortfall. In a show where your hosts cover the first two releases from The Offspring (The Offspring and Ignition), it's a relatively tangent-free episode. But that doesn't stop your intrepid power-pop professors from going back to the well and referencing references from past shows as the Dropped D Home Game is envisioned! Hold on to your cornrows! In a show packed with reviews, Dread Media is now chock-full of 100% more naked vampires as Desmond and Darryll take in a viewing of the new Blu-ray release of Jean Rollins' The Nude Vampire. Then Devil Dinosaur, Jr. reviews Men's Adventure Magazines from Taschen Books. Desmond returns for solo reviews of Dream House and Die before Tom Deja delights us with another Macabre Musical Theatre! Music included: "Naked" by Suicidal Tendencies, "Vampira" by The Devin Townsend Band, "A Lesson in Violence" by Exodus, "Tumbling Dice" by The Rolling Stones, and "Roulette" by System of a Down. 20. Colin Baker's final season of Doctor Who begins and comes to an end in this episode of Bigger on the Inside. In the 14-part "The Trial of a Time Lord," The Doctor must fight for his remaining lives against a supposedly immortal robot ("The Mysterious Planet"), a returned Sil ("Mindwarp"), vulgar-looking plant-monsters ("Terror of the Vervoids"), and his accuser: The Valeyard ("The Ultimate Foe")! As Dan and Mike say goodbye to Peri and Colin Baker, they greet Mel, have fun with the Vervoid costumes, and Mike discovers a new fetish: grannies with assault rifles. 22. In the coming days and weeks -- and then again when the books are set to be released this summer -- you'll be hearing a lot about Before Watchmen, the prequel to the critically acclaimed Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. As of this moment we're still only working on scraps of details; the creators involved and that the prequel will be a series of miniseries is all that's known, leaving the plots as question marks for the moment. And even if we knew the plots, it wouldn't smother the indignation that comic book readers are feeling. The idea of this project is one thing, but to actually bring it to life is another thing. And that, I will assume, is where most people will focus their anger. However, my stance is far from that. To read more, click here: A Few Words on Before Watchmen

    Episode 19

It's episode 19, and Hannah is pretty sure that the Heroes have stumbled into Bizzaro World. Why? Well, because this season of Buffy isn't sucking anymore. In fact, it's actually good. Like, really good. Meanwhile, Angel kinda sucks. Oh, someone dies, and a familiar face returns. Also included are discussions of whether or not Doctor Who took inspiration from a certain episode, the realization that Doug Jones is following them, and use of the foreshadowing hammer! And there's plenty of nightmare fuel to go around, folks, so come on in, and sit down as Hannah and Will cover "Something Blue" and "Hush" from Buffy, and "Hero" and "Parting Gifts" fromAngel. Episode 231

This week, Darryll likes train movies. So, buckle up and please don't travel between cars, as he and Desmond check the tickets of the unsung hero of 1970s exploitation: Night Train Murders. Then Devil Dinosaur, Jr. takes a look at the classic Night of the Demon in a new Stay Scary. And this is the week we make it official as Tom Deja presents Macabre Musical Theatre. Other than the one Tom sings, songs included: "Coincidenze (Film Mix)" by Ennio Morricone, "Strangers on a Train" by Lovage, "Fear of the Dark" by Iron Maiden, and "Partytime (Zombie Version)" by 45 Grave. 25. It's a Huge Conspiracy! The Guns N' Roses era of Dropped D ends with a whimper. The boys cover the lamented Chinese Democracy this week in the final GNR episode, because, let's face it, there won't be another. Even if there is, Desmond will be long dead by then, and Damien will be busy transferring his stock in Mountain Dew Corp. into his retirement funds. So enjoy it while it lasts. Axl is a time traveler, Paul Huge rears his ugly head, a wager is made, and all sorts of nasty shenanigans are gone through. What do old Damien and Desmond sound like? Also, how old was the babysitter Desmond hired? When is it acceptable to have "sha-na-nas" in your lyrics? And, finally, what is the next band your intrepid podcasters will cover? Questions for the ages, my friends. [ 1:26:25 || 41.4 MB ] To listen, click here: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/droppedd/episodes/droppedd_002-06.mp3
