  1. Could you elaborate on your problems with Hathaway in the role?

Sure. These are the Hathaway movies I've seen:

    Havoc

    Rachel Getting Married

    Devil Wears Prada

    Ella Enchanted

    Get Smart

    Love & Other Drugs

    Brokeback Mountain

She's a good actress with a strong suit in sitcom-y, snappy dialogue. She can play "bad girl" but in a very high school, young-adult kind of way. She lacks the innate sultry, sexy, slinky aura of Selina Kyle. She's not as dangerous, womanly, sophisticated or mysterious, as Catwoman needs to be.

I have a strong suspicion that Nolan had Marion Cottilard cast, and she had to back out due to her pregnancy.

I also don't think Anne's "off-beat" casting is comparable to Heath's casting. It's evident from Monster and Brokeback that he had a lot of buried, intense crazy energy in him. And I was excited to see him as the Joker from the beginning. But Anne doesn't have that devil-may-care yet vulnerable oxymoronic quality about her. Unless she completely changes her voice, her style of "reacting" (eye blink, pursed lips) that she's used in other movies, and just full-on morphs into a new human being, I'm not going to be looking forward to her in the Dark Knight rises.

I will, however, be looking forward to the possibility of Darren Aronofsky directing The Dark Knight (3) in 2017. Or later. I'll wait.

  2. I loved this podcast!

James, get some rest, and Mike congrats on moving in with you fiance :)

About the Carter Hall episode: I'm surprised no one mentioned how gorgeous the spaceship was. It would have made a beautiful jewelry piece. My favorite part was John Stewart gasping "Judas Priest!" Who says that? And of course, Batman cockblocking to the max. Classy.

Flash & Substance is one of my favorite episodes ever. I lot of people have mentioned Orion is very similar to Batman, but I think this episode clearly makes Batman seem more human and almost kind of sweet. Also, did anyone notice that Linda Park is the only girl that Flash doesn't throw himself at? Ironic, isn't it?

  3. Hey guys, long time no see.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and couldn't help laughing the whole way through.

After watching this movie, I'm wondering if anyone else had a similar reaction to a few things:

    1. Batman and Superman had a touchy-feely relationship. The Krytonite bullet in the heart, Batman carrying Superman in the sewers, Batman fainting and Superman carrying Batman, the constant banter...Bromance to the max.

    2. The martial arts moves Batman whipped out against lady Shiva were pretty sick. I wished that scene was longer. There's also another moment where Bats jumps in the air while turning and throwing batarangs. That was like a scene straight out of a Jet Li movie.

    3. Lex acting all psycho on juice and coming onto Amanda Waller felt like the writer's way of trying to prove they're really twisted. I got the same feeling when I saw Drag-queen Hades (who looks more like Bacchus btw) in Wonder Woman. I think I like Doomsday's cold-blooded-quiet-sinister Lex more.

    4. I know I'm not the only one who noticed Powergirl's "assets." With her huge eyes and innocent demeanor and ultra-endowed bod, she looked like a Japanese porn character (or so I imagine)

    5. G: Grundy not feel so good. B: Grundy's gonna feel a lot worse! SMASH. AWESOME.

Mike, I too wondered where Batman went after the big explosion. My sister and I looked at each other and went "Where did Batman go?". Then we stopped asking questions because it took the enjoyment out of the pretty movie. We also accepted the fact that Batman can "beat Jesus and is richer than God."

  4. If Hush is to be made into a live action batman movie Michael C Hall has to play him, whenever I read one of the Hush storys i hear Michael C Halls dexter voice.

Someone once said to me that HUSH is a glamorized fanfic. I can see that -- but it's one of the rare story lines that's entertaining, has all the characters, had Jim Lee illustrate it, and get the Bruce/Selina relationship right. So who the hell cares!

Also I'm currently reading batman:Tales of the demon. It has the original set of Ra's Al Ghul storys and is very good so far.

They used to have that online on the batmanbegins website. It might still be there. The art work is beautiful! I saw the Demon's Quest in BAS first, and then I read the comic. It's one of my favorite story lines. This is when I still liked Talia.

  5. Ah, here it is.

This show has a Jusitice League New Frontier feel to it. I'm not sure if it's the animation or the way Batman talks, but it does. I'll tell you one thing though, the Blue Beetle's opening dialogue with his friend was a hell of a lot better than the dialogue in the Gotham Knights episode. At least he sounds like a kid, and not a kid trying to sound like a kid. I thought he was Dick at first. But then again, I think everyone's Dick! (Mike, don't laugh!)

I hope they do B&tB 197. You know, the one where Selina and Bruce get married.

  6. Ok, I didn't want to start a thread for this question. I'm watching tv, flip past the cartoon network, flip back -- Batman: The Brave & The Bold, Batman and the Blue Beetle.

    What??

Is this an old cartoon? It is in HD quality. It's enjoyable too.

  7. I just watched this movie on DVD and Bale's surfer grunt was so distracting I couldn't help but laugh. It's a good movie, but it ambushes you with so much going-ons that I felt like I just overate a super-rich cake and I'm regretting it badly. Taking away the last 1/3 part of the movie (ie. Harvey's transformation) would have left me just as satisfied.
