  1. If it hasn't been covered already, could we review NIGHTBREED on Dread Media? I haven't seen it in literally like ten years or more. Maybe like fifty.

    Episode 238

A few points - In the review I mentioned a Mobius documentary on VIMEO. It's no longer there but it is on Youtube. If you haven't already, it's well worth checking out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUT1LH8ZlXo&NR=1&feature=endscreen The name of the comic artist who created Rocco Vargas is Daniel Torres. It bugged me that I couldn't remember his name. I couldn't find a really good gallery of his work but I encourage anyone that appreciates the clean lines of Herge' or Will Eisner to seek him out. Rocco Vargas is kind of a pop art science fiction saga with a real 1950s flair as seen through a 1980s lens. It's sexy and fun.

I know what you mean, Slothian. I have yet to approach ANTICHRIST for reasons similar to yours. At this point in my life such a negative viewing experience just doesn't seem worth my time. I want to be engaged by motion pictures; emotionally, intellectually, sexually, whatever. A film that depresses is not on my list right now. Having said that, I also agree with Dread. Lars is one of our finest filmmakers. His visual aesthetic is second to none and his ability to achieve a particular tone and maintain it is unmatched. The quality of the anxiety and the feeling of impending doom he creates in MELANCHOLIA is actually worth checking out. It's nihilism at it's artful best. But MELANCHOLIA is also (and I believe we neglected to mention this in the review) damn funny. Yes, it's funny. Particularly, Udo Kier. His small contribution to the film is hilarious. We need those laughs early in the film to gird us for the very deep and realistic portrayal of mental illness that pervades the second half of the film. So, while I sympathize with your trepidation, Slothian, I think I can recommend the film without hesitation. And oh, yeah, Kirsten Dunts' boobs are totally worth it. Amazing.

Needless to say, I am really, really, really looking forward to the other films in this series.

Let's just say, shall we, that Des knows for an unequivocal fact, that Wolfman's got nards.

Actually looks not bad. Less video gamey than part 2. Looks like they give up the handheld conceit part way through. That's good. I like brides with chainsaws. Reminds me of my own nuptials.

I just realized MURDER OBSESSION (Riccardo Frida, 1981) is coming out on Blu in this month. It's already getting some good buzz. http://www.blu-ray.c...-Blu-ray/34079/

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY will probably be the last Italian horror film we review in 2011.

DARRYLL, THE CRAYON CRITIC! "Tune in every week for critical analysis as sharp as safety scissors."

    Episode 221

I would have made more sense if I had remembered to bring it up during the review. Maybe I need to start taking notes.

No, I'm saying it's missing. It should be there. So that when she rebuilds him at the end it's to satisfy her fantasies. They can live happily ever after because they each have the body the other wants.

    Episode 221

Alright. I'm glad this is posted. I had this on my mind while watching but of course forgot to discuss it during the review. Arg. The one thing I thought was missing from FRANKENHOOKER was a little more emphasis on the sexual politics. In the first act it would have been good if Jeffrey was a bit more of a horn dog, constantly bugging his frigid wife for sex. She rebuffs him, but later we get a hint of her attraction toward women. All this would have provided some motivation for Jeffrey's pervy, convoluted plan and added some sexual irony to the switch-er-oo at the end. Just my two cents. Good movie, otherwise.

    Episode 215

Master, US:R is a direct sequel to the first UNIVERSAL SOLDIER, disregarding the previous (crap) sequels. Having said that, though, I don't think the filmmakers have adhered very closely to any set timeline. It's a very near future and that's enough. Also, I think when they say Luc woke up two years ago, they're referring to his time with the doctor and the program to reintegrate him into society, not his rebellion from the first film. It's been years since I saw the first film, though. I may have to revisit it for old times sake.

Actually, Des, I would be interested in MANIAC COP II. That car chase sounds like my kind of poison.

I really enjoyed Richard's feedback this week. Good stuff. Keep it coming, Richard.
  18. D-Man

    Episode 215

This is a really good episode because it's a Double Darryll'ed Shotgun of pure action movie love. In case it's not evident from the review, I highly recommend you check out U.S.:R. It's good. I like movies. Send More Feedback Please!!!

    Episode 213

I realized today that while I can picture clearly the face and body every female actress in TORSO I have zero memory of how the picture ended. I'm gonna have to watch the last ten minutes again.

I don't get it...Airwolf was a helicpoter! That's just your opinion. It may also have been Ernest Borgnine with helicopter-like prosthetics. It was the eighties, after all.
  21. D-Man

    Episode 212

You're right, (insert hard-to-type user name here), I did forget the novel which I haven't read but was on my Amazon wishlist for ages. What did you think of the movie? Thanks for the music recommendation. Very cool. I kept waiting for it to go all Daft Punk but it doesn't. Admirable restraint. The second song was vaguely Miami Vice Theme Music in a very good way while the final selection is all Magnum P.I. slash Airwolf which in my opinion was a helicopter.

    Episode 211

If you're only going to listen to one episode of Dread Media this week, make this the one. A rockin' good time at the movies.
  23. I dunno. I liked Cap's WW2 uniform. I'm not really diggin' his modern look.
  24. Just for the record, I DO believe Dread was trying to poison me with tainted cubes. I guess that's better than tainted pubes. Luckily I keep an identical replicant of myself in the back of my shoe closet for just such an occasion. I found it the other day under the bed with a Mitt Romney halloween mask on it. My wife keeps draining the batteries. "Damn you, Tyrell Corp.! 'More human than human,' My ass!"
  25. I wish I didn't have to wait a week to hear the next episode. I had an absolute ball recording it and I want to listen to it immediately. Good times. Great film. Fun Q'n'A.
