  2. I didn't hate TORCHWOOD but it simply bored me to no end. At least until CHILDREN OF EARTH. If the rest of the series had been as outstanding as CHILDREN OF EARTH I'd have watched it more.

  4. Kobayashi Maru. Because given the fanaticism of some ST fans there's no way you're gonna win.
  5. Actually, it's a prequel. He said he had enough material for a mini series. He also said he always says he's thinking about a sequel, and not to read too much into what he says. At least he's honest about bullshitting us. Agreed. Whenever Tarantino starts talking about sequel/prequel/sidequel it's best to just take a deep breath and remember who's talking. To date the projects he's promised us but so far hasn't delivered on: A sequel to KILL BILL THE VEGA BROTHERS: which was supposed to be a prequel to both RESERVOIR DOGS and PULP FICTION and by the time he got around to doing so, both Michael Madsen and John Travolta turned it down as both felt they were now too old to play those characters. KILL BILL: THE WHOLE BLOODY THING which is supposed to have both parts as well as unseen/deleted scenes added to give us a six hour definitive magnum opus. GRINDHOUSE: The definitive theatrical version. Don't get me wrong, I'm not jumping all over Tarantino as anybody who knows me knows I love the cat to death. But its just that I learned years ago not to start panting and salivating over his proposed projects. I would have really loved to have seen his proposed James Bond project which he wanted to film in black-and-white, set in period during the 1960's. Put Clive Owen in the Bond role and we'd have had an instant classic.
  6. Agreed. The best part was the last five or ten minutes. This and "Waters of Mars" were both tedious to watch.
  7. Agreed. I don't even mind Jar Jar Binks all that much. Everybody in the STAR WARS saga can't be a Han Solo or Mace Windu. You've got your heroes and you've got your buffoons. Jar Jar was no worse than C-3PO who really is an annoying pain in the ass. To me, C-3PO is R2-D2's sidekick, not the other way 'round.
  8. Oh, hey, I really like Jedi a lot. I think it maintains that genuine sense of character that the other Original Trilogy films had. It's just not as good as Empire. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK still remains as the best of all six STAR WARS. The sad fact is this: George Lucas isn't a good director. A lot of it comes from the fact that he's not as comfortable with actors as he is with technology. With EMPIRE he turned over the directing to a seasoned director and got two of the best screenwriters to write the movie.

  10. Yes, it is a really, really, really big budget remake of "Dances With Wolves" Yes, the tree-huggers are going to fall in love with this movie as James Cameron bashes us over the head with pro-environmentalism every chance he gets. The characters played by Giovanni Ribisi and Stephen Lang are painfully one-dimensional. Now having said all that I say this: AVATAR is an extraordinary movie and James Cameron didn't lie when he proclaimed himself King Of The World. Unlike Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich he knows how to spend $500 million on a movie that doesn't insult my intelligence or wastes my time.
  11. That's Meg Foster and I absolutely love those eyes of hers. I read an interview about her years and years ago during the original theatrical run of MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE where she said that she lost a lot of jobs because her eyes tended to freak some people out but it evened out because she got just as many jobs because of her eyes. She was advised at the start of her career to use contact lenses but she refused. For which I applaud her. It's also worth mentioning that she and Loretta Swit were the original "Cagney & Lacey" They couldn't continue doing the show because Loretta Swit couldn't get out of her M*A*S*H* contract and Meg Foster was considered by CBS to be "too aggressive"
  12. My choice for a new team of Ghostbusters: Steve Carell Steve Zahn Orlando Jones Jeff Anderson
  13. Now, now, William...please don't be shy. Tell us what you honestly and truly think of DIE ANOTHER DAY. I'm with Derrick on this one, Will. You're being a tad subtle! Glad you liked the review. Honestly I was kidding, Derrick, everyone has their own opinions and I seriously just wanted to get all my rage out about the film that led to the creation of Bond bingo (However that is reason 1 of 1000 why this film is the worst of the series.) Apologies to everyone who didn't vote for this on the poll, it was the final thoughts section of the episode that inspired that reply. No problem, Will. I fully realize I'm definitely in the minority when it comes to DIE ANOTHER DAY (and THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH for that matter) and that's okay. I don't disagree with the flaws in the story, the casting of Halle Berry, who must have had it in her contract that Jinx had to have just as much screen time as Bond or the overuse of CGI. But I still maintain that it's not the worst of the Bond movies and I'd much rather watch DIE ANOTHER DAY than MOONRAKER, A VIEW TO A KILL or QUANTUM OF BOREDOM....oops, excuse me, I meant SOLACE.

  15. True dat. One of the very few remakes that actually manages to be better than the original.
  16. Christmas is coming, so why not do some of your holiday shopping with us? PulpWork Press titles are available from both Amazon and Fictionwise. You can also buy them direct from us, courtesy of our very own PWP store! But if you're not sure about slapping down your hard-earned cash on one of our elegant, hand-crafted works of fictive genius, why not take a moment to peruse the variety of free offerings available on the website? We have the first chapters from several books, including the newly released NUCLEAR SUITCASE, by Joel Jenkins, on our site, as well as the first story in our 2010 anthology, HOW THE WEST WAS WEIRD, edited by Russ Anderson! And if that's not enough, why not check out the newest entry in Derrick Ferguson's Movie Review Notebook, as he tells you why you probably need to see Nimrod Antal's ARMORED! Oh, and just as a reminder...our message board is up and running, so feel free to stop in and say hi or start a discussion on any of our fine titles! Finally, if you've got the time, spread the word about PWP to your friends! http://www.pulpworkpress.com/
  17. This is the best list yet for three reasons: 1:Victor Von Doom is number one where he rightfully should be. 2: T'Challa is on it where he rightfully should be. 3: Peter Parker isn't on it. Sure he was smart enough to create the web fluid formula and web shooters when he was just a teenager but he wasn't smart enough to market the stuff to the military and law enforcement, make a ton of cash and live in comfort the rest of his life.
  18. I've probably asked this before and if I have I apologize for being repetitive. Here goes: how come Susan has never made a reappearance? You'd think that with The Doctor currently being the last of The Time Lords he would want to find his only surviving relative.
  19. Add LETHAL WEAPON, TRANCERS, BATMAN RETURNS and THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT to that list of favorite Christmas movies. Tom and I did a BiTD episode about Christmas themed action movies once we talked about it and realized there are more than a lot of people realize.
  20. For me the best action movie ever made is John Woo's HARD-BOILED
  21. Now this is something I can get excited about.
  22. Recently saw 2010 and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. Both were a total waste of my time. Especially PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. People really think this stuff is scary?
  23. A VIEW TO A KILL is the worst James Bond movie ever. Any body who says different I am ready and willing to have a rusty knife fight at high noon in the middle of main street with them.
  24. I thought so too. Derrick raises hand and nods in agreement
  25. I recently bought the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET "4 Film Favorites" sets at Target. All eight NIGHTMARE movies for $20 bucks isn't a bad deal.
