The New Guy (1/8)

  1. Thought you'd like to know that the table read for the new, crowdfunded volume of the comic book has been posted on Youtube. It's brilliant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNiKrttUUMg If anyone wants their own copies of the comics, you can buy them from O2STK. Here ends your promotional message from Middleman Pimps Я Us
  2. Thanks Knightwing! I'm used to a different type of message board, and I had trouble working out how to post a link here Yeah, he doesn't say a huge amount, but it's great to know that they're thinking of it as more than a one-shot.
  3. Great news - it looks like Joss and co are working on a sequel
  4. Darque Edge is absolutely right. This is a brilliant series and well worth taking the time to watch. Its internal mythology is great - pretty impressive for a show that's only six episodes long. I'm not counting the excellent pilot in that, as the Vampire mythology was changed between the pilot and series. Three impressive leads, outstanding supporting cast, smart, sharp writing and some great comic moments mixed with real pathos and horror. I can't recommend this little show that could highly enough. If nothing else, the curiosity factor (that this is a show that was made because fans campaigned for it to be made) is surely worth giving it a punt.
  5. Hello! I thought I'd better come and account for myself Actually, Mr M has pretty much covered what I dislike about the episode. The thing is, I think my response is proportionate to the general reception it has received. When I finished watching it when it first aired, I thought "Meh, that wasn't very good." When I talked to people about it, both in RL and on the internet though, the response I saw was along the lines of "OMG it was the best episode EVER!" (this was before the wonderful Blink, Human Nature and Turn Left, of course). I took that as fan hyperbole, but then it started picking up awards and being hailed in the genre press, and I was completely confused. I just don't see what people think is so marvellous about it. In my view, it's a fairly average story with some really shonky moments: as Mr M said, I find the King's speech at the end not just weak, but lame. The first couple of times I saw the story, it made me laugh out loud. I'm not sure if that's down to the writing or the performance.
