Koete
The German Expressionist period is one of my favorites in film. Nosferatu isn't in my top 20.

You Know Who
Just joined it this morning. Ian was right to call it insidious for how addictive it is. Here is my current Top 10 (after some re-ranking) out of 90 movies: 1. Jurassic Park 2. Hot Fuzz 3. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 4. The Godfather Part I 5. Little Miss Sunshine 6. The Sound of Music 7. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 8. Bubba Ho-tep 9. Star Wars 10. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
slothian
Django Unchained vs The Matrix
KnightWing
The Matrix. Django is epic, don't get me wrong, but The Matrix is epic as well as incredibly groundbreaking. It's still probably the king of the "reality is an illusion" subgenre.
slothian
Agreed, particularly on the groundbreaking point. Django is my second favourite Tarantino flick (after Basterds), but The Matrix as a standalone film is pretty darn special. And it's unfair to allow the sequels to taint the original, although I perfectly understand why people do...
Stavros
Personally it's Django.

slothian
Not to cast doubt on your learned opinions/judgment etc, but having rewatched Adventures of Robin Hood today, I firmly believe it to be one of the finest films of its decade (especially given my wealth of knowledge about films from the 1930s and their precise minutiae). Regardless, it's a hugely fun film with some great action.
Stavros
I believe I saw it in my youth but that's not a reliable source. It's apples and pears really, a tough call. If you're asking which I'm happier exists then absolutely it's Robin Hood.
