Dread
Ratings are what the networks go by, though. So those will determine the longevity of a show on a major network for the time being.
Davedevil
Just watched A to Z and it was alright. It gets by on Cristin Milioti's effortless charm. Something I've noticed is that a year after Friends ended, HIMYM used the "group of friends in Manhattan" setup, and now the season after HIMYM, here's A to Z with its "finding the One" premise(with some 500 Days of Summer in there) I doubt this show will go all that long though. Koete
Approximately 83 sitcoms have used the "group of friends in Manhattan" setup since Friends.
Davedevil
When you get into specifics though there's a lot of Friends in HIMYM. I've only seen the first season of Friends so far and I've gone "hey that's familiar" more often than not.
Dan
John Mulaney is one of the funniest, most intelligent stand-ups I've seen in years, but his sitcom is going to need to get a hell of a lot better in a big fucking hurry. dc20willsave
Speaking of which, their episode count got trimmed from 16 to 13. Unless it massively rebounds, it's heading to the cancellation bin.
Stavros
Well it was in developmental abyss because NBC didn't want it, which is why Naseem Pedrad had to stay with SNL for an extra season with nothing to do, and then Fox grabbed it this year. All I see in it are Mulaney standup routines I've already heard being poorly and stiffly acted out. It's one of the least natural sitcoms of all time and I firmly believe the audience is completely canned. It looks and plays like a disney kids sitcom. Quite a waste. It's not even that the routine to scenario thing can't work, look at Louie. All he does are half episode versions of standup ideas and it's the most original comedy show going. I have to believe if Mulaney had pushed a more creative angle he'd be getting more out of his material, instead they went for mass appeal and I lost all interest. Koete
Didn't watch it, but I really like Nicolas Wright, so I'm sorry he's out a gig.
JackFetch
NBC has cancelled Bad Judge and A to Z. They will both finish their 13 episode order, but will be done after that. Fox has reduced the episode order from Mulaney. http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/10/31/bad-judge-a-to-z/
Koete
I really wish I liked Marry Me more than I do. The humor has the same qualities as Happy Endings, but, outside of Casey Wilson and Ken Marino, the cast isn't the comedic powerhouse that Happy Endings had. It was nice seeing Derrick again though. JackFetch
That sucks. I'm really enjoying it, even though I think the female costar is awful.

dc20willsave
Me thinks the revival of old series is starting to go a tad too far. Coach is returning for a new 13 episode series.
JackFetch
Coach, the show everyone just remembered was actually a thing.
Dan
Coach, the living manifestation of "Well, it's 9:30 and the show I'm waiting for isn't on for another half hour, I guess this'll kill the time as well as anything."
dc20willsave
I'm sure it was a case of someone looking at it lasting 9 seasons and NBC not quite realizing they don't have a strong sitcom to bridge between it and a 10 PM show. Koete
The hope for Happy Endings returning burns brighter.
