The Academy isn't critics, either:

Membership

All members must be invited to join. Invitation comes from the Board of Governors. Membership eligibility may be achieved by a competitive nomination or a member may submit a name based on other significant contribution to the field of motion pictures.

New membership proposals are considered annually. The Academy does not publicly disclose its membership, although past press releases have announced the names of those who have been invited to join.

Academy membership is divided into 15 branches, representing different disciplines in motion pictures. Members may not belong to more than one branch. Members whose work does not fall within one of the branches may belong to a group known as "Members At Large."

* Art Directors

* Cinematographers

* Directors

* Documentary

* Executives

* Film Editors

And those people vote for their prospective categories and best picture.

The Oscars are not People's Choice awards. They are industry awards.

But looking at the big winner, Slumdog Millionaire, it can't be all bad can it? It's probably the best film of the decade.

As far as Ledger goes, the only contender against him in my eyes, was Hoffman. Brolin, whom I admire greatly was nowhere near the caliber of those two in Milk.

Edit: Cut the rest and moved it to the Oscars thread.

When the hell will there be a game! Following the success of the movie, A game would have done exceptionally well.

There was a game. It was canceled a long time ago when they realized it sucked.

btw, the Academy are a bunch of assholes. They refused to let Rodney Dangerfield become a member because they said his body of work wasn't up to their standards.

In 1995, his application for membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was rejected. At the time, he commented on how then-president of AMPAS, Roddy McDowall who acted in a monkey suit in the Planet of the Apes Planet of the Apes series of films, possibly felt that Dangerfield was not dignified enough to join the organization. AMPAS would later offer membership, an offer he declined.

There's Batman: Arkham Asylum game coming out on the back of all of this success, so either way, you don't have long until a Batman game comes out. But movie tie-in games are almost always awful. My brother was a games tester for the second Pirates of the Carribean game and it killed any enthusiasm he had for working in the industry.

Other than Goldeneye can anyone think of a good movie tie-in game? I can't.

Spider-Man 2 was halfway decent.

It was more than halfway decent; its open-world setting set the standard for superhero games.

There's a short list of other good film-to-games, like Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

The real example, however, would be the Star Wars games. Jedi Knight, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and Knights of the Old Republic were all outstanding games that were--at the time of release--the best in their genre.

That being said, The Dark Knight would not have lent itself well to a game.
