My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: Legend of Everfree: That's a bit of a mouthful. This is the fourth EG film and, by now, I know what I'm expecting and it's a very low bar.

Burnt Offerings: A haunted house film from the 70s that I mainly watched because it had Bette Davis. It's creepy but also very predictable. Still, it's good enough and something I might consider watching again.

Zootopia: I enjoyed it. It's upper-middle tier Disney, very beautiful though the message did become a little anvilicious as it went on.

Mobile Armored Riot Police: Ghost In The Shell or simply Ghost in the Shell (1995): Rewatched this for maybe the fourth time last night. This gets better each time I see it. It's a classic. The animation is just perfect, simply perfect. Little details such as fogged up windows are done with such accuracy that it puts a lot of films made twenty years later to shame. The atmosphere is outstanding. The music is gorgeous. The Major is the closest thing to anime Batman in terms of body language and action I think there's ever been. I'll need to re-watch Akira to see how it holds up but I don't remember being anywhere near as good as this. I've not seen Innocence or any of the anime series but I'm just worried none of them will hold a candle to this.

Watchmen (The Ultimate Cut): Hidden Content

Interesting last point. Care to elaborate on that?

Hidden Content

I thought the acting was either extremely good or really poor. In ranking order, for me the best actors were Billy Cruddup, Jackie Earle Haley, Patrick Wilson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan - then everyone else. I like Carla Gugino fine in the flashback scene when she was Silk Spectre. With what's she's given in the modern scenes she's written to be a caricature so she kind of plays that up accordingly. Not a bad job but a let down of the character by the script.

But don't just take my word for it!

Oh okay, I kinda thought they were all over the top. Janey Slater was melodramatic instead of naturally angry. Moloch was all "I-I-I NEARLY SHIT MYSELF!" and overtly jittery. Nixon was...ya know. Idk, for me the BG cast lacked the kind of felt reality that the story calls upon. Thank you for listening, glad you liked the episode!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: This was wayyy more serious than I expected it. I'm not sure if I expected In the Army Now, but maybe something closer to MASH? This had laughs, but it was a lot more intense than expected. Tina Fey, Margot Robbie and porn star stand-in guy from Love Actually were all really good. Solid turn from Billy Bob Thornton too. I didn't even realize the guy I looked up was Alfred Molina, so there's some whitewashing here. And the Fahim guy who had me thinking he was an Afghani Josh Hartnett is actually Max from Martha Marcy May Marlene, which is crazy. Good movie.

The Seven Vampires/The Secret of the Mummy: two 80s underground horror comedies from Brazilian director Ivan Cardoso. Never before seen outside of Brazil. Interesting. Two more in the box set to check out before I review.
