Episode 1028

The 13th year of Earth-2.net: The Show is celebrated with the return of The Flickchart Forum. Ian Wilson is joined by the host of that very first episode of The Show, Michael David Sims, and the Hypnogoria head honcho, Jim Moon, as they rank the pre-2018 entries of the Halloween franchise as the latest installment is in cinemas. From Carpenter's classic to Rob Zombie's remakes, with Paul Rudd, Michelle Williams, and Busta Rhymes somewhere in the middle, the trio offer up the most varied lists The Forum has yet to feature. Hey, an Actor is referenced to demonstrate why Pandy Wilson was not invited to appear, whilst alternate versions of certain films are discussed, Ian notes why Rob Zombie is significant to his Flickchart, and one particular host makes a vastly baffling choice. So, I just finished watching all of the Halloween movies for the first time this October, in addition to watching the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street films. I really enjoyed watching through this franchise for the first time (more than the other two), and this episode was a great treat at the end. My ranking is fairly similar to the averaged out ranking, with some minor variables.

  1. Halloween 1978
  2. Halloween (2018)
  3. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
  4. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
  5. Halloween II (1981)
  6. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
  7. Halloween III: The Season of the Witch (1982)
  8. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
  9. Halloween (2007) (*See Below*)
  10. Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
  11. Halloween II (2009)

I had a quick question regarding Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007). I know it has been a while, but do you recall what cut you guys watched? I sat down and watched the Director's Cut (I believe) which had a pretty significant alteration regarding Michael's escape scene. In one version of the film, he is being escorted by several Guards / Officers, who he brutally kills to escape. In the version I saw, the hill-billy new Security Guard brings one of his friends to the institution late at night, and goes into Michael's cell to rape a female inmate in front of Michael, to taunt him... I guess (?). Michael remains unmoved until one of the men grabs one of Michael's masks, at which point he murders them. This scene did not come up at all during the aired discussion, so I was just curious to see what version you all watched.

The scene in question went on for several minutes (but what felt like an eternity), and in my opinion, was absolutely disgusting, unnecessary, and idiotic. I do not understand why this scene was put to film or what purpose it served. It felt so disgusting to watch, and it really coloured my opinion regarding the rest of the film, knocking it down several positions. Perhaps I am being overly sensitive, but it has been bothering me ever since I watched it, and it was bothering me that it went unmentioned in the episode, though I am assuming it was because of a difference in Cuts.

Yes, it is a Rob Zombie movie after all.

And that was the version I watched. But if I had delved too deeply into the Zombie can of worms, it wouldn't have made great content. And bear in mind, this is the best film of Zombie's in my opinion - sort of by default as Halloween II and The Devil's Rejects are right at the foot of my Flickchart, but it isn't as bad as them.

Fair enough, I was just surprised to not hear it mentioned at all, as it was my big takeaway from the film. Thanks for the response! I had never seen a Rob Zombie film prior to his two Halloweens, so I think I will call it quits while I am ahead.
