From Bloody-Disgusting.com:

Variety Spills the Beans: A Friday the 13th in October!

The other day we teased you that New Line Cinema is working on new Freddy and Jason projects, but we couldnt tell you exactly what. Today Variety breaks the silence and reports that New Line is hoping to release its 12th film in the sturdy Friday the 13th franchise on -- surprise -- Friday, Oct. 13! The kicker is that the studio has launched development of a script about Jason Voorhees' origins. Is this news killer enough for ya? Cause you can expect even more big news soon!

Sturdy, huh, not exactly the words I would use to desribe the series.

Liebesman makes date with a killer

Jonathan Liebesman, director of the upcoming "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" prequel, is in negotiations to direct the remake of horror classic "Friday the 13th" for New Line Cinema.

"Friday" made Jason, the unstoppable hockey mask-wearing killer, a 1980s horror icon, though the serial killer made only a brief appearance in the final frames of the first movie. Jason didn't even don the famous mask until the third movie.

Jason will wear the mask for the remake, written by Mark Wheaton, which will incorporate components of the franchise's films. The setting will be that of the first movie, Crystal Lake.

Liebesman is wrapping production on the untitled "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" prequel, which, like the "Friday" remake, is produced by Platinum Dunes for New Line.

A Friday the 13th does fall in October this year, and there was speculation that the movie would be made quickly to capitalize on that. But Platinum Dunes and New Line already have scheduled the "Texas Chainsaw" prequel for release that month, on October 6. "Friday" will be a 2007 release.

Okay, now I'm confused. Are they producing a prequel and a remake, or just a remake?

Wait. If it's a prequel, he can't have the mask. That wouldn't make any sense, since he took the mask after killing Shelly in Part 3.

And if it's a remake, what is it exactly a remake of? Part 1 he was just a kid. Anything from Part 6 on (when he became zombie Jason) would make sense, but nothing really before that.

Well, I'm right confused.

Here's hoping they get Kane Hodder to play Jason again, though.

The Friday series was never big on continuity anyway. If it helps, consider it an "elseworlds" story or something.
