The long, twisted road to Superman Returns.

Recommended Posts

Whoa!

This is a very, very, very long read. As in 12,000 words long. Nonetheless, it is an interesting look at the long and twisted road to Superman Returns. Besides the fanboyish slant, the only real downside is that the report is incomplete; it ends around mid-2004. So we don't get to see how they went from the jumbled crap that was the original script to where it is today. Oh well.

Interesting stuff, but as you say Yoda, very long and pretty slanted. I've found that Wikipedia has a more concise version about the pre-production here (and mentions Singer as well).

That Wiki is my favorite, if only for the mental picture of Kevin Smith going all Silent Bob on the Superman script.

Peters is intrigued, but insists that if Smith is to take the job, he must follow three rules:

"I don't wanna see him in 'that suit'."

"I don't wanna see him fly."

"He's got to fight a giant spider in the third act."

The three eules get funnier everytime I read them.

I love that read, and I actually remember Kevin Smith being on Leno (I think) and talking about it. The 'who is this Kal-El guy' comment is my favourite. Gotta love the money men in Hollywood.

On a side note, Marvel is owned by a toy maker, and none of their recent movies are obvious merchandise vehicles... nice to see Arvi Arad respects both businesses seperately.
