The aspect of Spidey in Civil War that everyone seems to forget is that he was the "viewpoint" character, and he switched sides once he realized Tony was in the wrong. That's the real impact he had on the story, not the unmasking. If anything, the unmasking only affected Peter's solo storyline afterward (and then only briefly).

I think the fact that the unmasking was such an iconic event most fans assume it will be in the movie.

But for Spider-Man to be the 'viewpoint' character, he kinda had to unmask. Because if he switches sides, Tony-to-Cap or Cap-to-Tony, he would unmask at some point. Not going to re-write this What If? style, but I don't know who they could have unmasked besides Spider-Man than would have mattered.

Marvel teaming with John Ridley for mysterious superhero project

Let the speculation begin: EW has learned that Oscar-winning writer-producer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) is teaming up with Marvel to develop a mysterious new TV series.

We hear the deal involves reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC—but all sides are staying quiet on exactly which title Ridley is adapting.

This comes on the heels of EW breaking the news that Marvel and ABC are also developing a spinoff series to The Avengers tie-in Agents of SHIELD.

Ridley is an executive producer of ABC’s acclaimed midseason drama American Crime, which we hear is looking good for a second season renewal. Coming off winning best adapted screenplay for 12 Years a Slave, Ridley is also a writer/producer on the 2016 big-screen update of Ben Hur.

Marvel’s aggressive expansion into television now includes four current series (ABC’s SHIELD, Agent Carter—which is on the bubble for a pickup—and Netflix’s Daredevil), plus several confirmed upcoming titles (Netflix’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, followed by the Netflix character mash-up The Defenders). Neither Marvel nor ABC would comment on the Ridley project.

There are all kinds of rumors raging about the wall crawler, including that Feige and his producing accomplice Amy Pascal are planning an arc that will tell the Spidey story over three to four movies, each covering a year of high school for Peter Parker, who’ll already have been bitten by the radioactive spider so we don’t have to see that all over again. The tone they are searching for in the coming of age tale is John Hughes humor and emotion, plus all the superhero stuff.

Even if they're skipping over the spider-bite, how many Spider-Man origin stories have there been in the media over the last 20 years which have petered out (excuse the pun) rather than sustain a decent run?? 10? 20? 68?
