As 2011 winds down, Marvel Studios is looking towards the future, specifically its 2014 release calendar. Their first release of that year is now scheduled to arrive nearly three months earlier.

Currently untitled, the film had planned on a June 27th release and will now bow on April 4th. Another untitled Marvel Studios project is still planned to arrive on May 16th.

Previous reports suggest that one of these projects is likely the sequel to this year's Captain America: The First Avenger.

“They may wait until 2014 until they release the next 'Cap'," Chris Evans told The Playlist in September. "Marvel has a lot of balls in the air. They aren’t going to cannibalize their films.”

As it stands, Marvel will release The Avengers on May 4, 2012. Iron Man 3 follows on May 3, 2013 and Thor 2 on November 15, 2013.

Disney XD said it will launch a dedicated Marvel programming block, Marvel Universe,on April 1. It will include the new series Ultimate Spider-Man and the return of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes new among animated short-form series and live-action interstitials that target the channel’s boys 6-14 demo.

Geez, can't help but think this sounds a little like DC Nation. Still, DC, take this as a reason to get into gear.

It was officially announced today that Ultimate Spider-Man will premiere starting April 1st on Disney XD. That same weekend, Disney XD is launching their Marvel block of shows which is to be anchored by Ultimate Spider-Man and the second season of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (which is, word has it, going to feature Dr. Doom as a villain)

Having a programming block centered around Marvel makes sense. Disney XD already had something like that a while back with superhero shows from the 90s. But the shorts? Too much like what Cartoon Network's doing.

Sure they're stealing CN's idea but that's okay with me if we're getting 2 awesome new pogromming blocks.

In a new interview promoting The Avengers, Mark Ruffalo has spilled on just how many films are included in his Marvel contract as the Hulk—and rumor has it that one could be a solo flick.

Ruffalo told Collider that he is officially locked in for six Marvel films, and said he "definitely" hopes they keep him around for as long as possible.

"The experience was great, it was fun, and I love that group of people," he said.

The news that Ruffalo is locked in for six films is even more interesting when you take into account a comment from Marvel marketing exec Paul Gitter, who said if Ruffalo's Bruce Banner is a hit, he'll have a solo film by 2015—despite recent comments that a new Hulk film was not in the cards.

Per a Forbes interview with Gitter:

If
Hulk
's successful turnaround continues, Gitter says Marvel "will spin him off to a stand-alone program next year," supported by a big budget franchise movie in 2015. The entertainment studio is also exploring ways to promote Hulk as a "corporate icon," similar to MetLife's usage of Peanuts' Snoopy, where
The Hulk
's image conveys a message about channeling strength to overcome workplace challenges.

The Hulk has had two recent shots at big-screen glory, though both efforts fell short of expectations, and Marvel is apparently iffy to try again. But, who knows, maybe the third time is the charm?

The Guardians of the Galaxy film has long been a rumored possibility for the Marvel Studios slate and as far as we're concerned, if they can pull off Thor there's no reason this can't work as a movie too.

This just might be the glimmer of hope that many fans have been wanting...

According to Bleeding Cool, Marvel has filed eleven new trademark applications for Guardians of the Galaxy that includes a wide variety of products like jewelery, drinks, food, furniture, cosmetics, computer games, fabrics, paper goods, and entertainment/internet services.

Seems to us like they wouldn't go to all this trouble if they weren't planning something big.

I'm thinking cartoon.

Guardians of the Galaxy was made to be a cartoon. A live action Rocket Raccoon, while all kinds of awesome, is going to look kind of goofy to the average moviegoer. Yeah, I can see this being animated, and kicking all kinds of ass while doing so.
