The third release of a multi-picture direct-to-DVD deal signed by the two companies, THE INVINCIBLE IRON MAN follows on the heels of the enormously successful ULTIMATE AVENGERS: THE MOVIE and ULTIMATE AVENGERS 2: RISE OF THE PANTHER, which have sold more than 1.5 million units combined since debuting in February 2006, and currently rank among the top 10 children's releases year-to-date according to Nielsen Videoscan (10/8/06). Does this follow the Ultimate universe like the first movies? Well it was in 616(is that the right term for the regular marvel universe?) and he needed the Iron plate in his chest to live. Posted November 11, 2006 Report Share Posted November 11, 2006 Stark didn't NEED the suit (more specifically the chestplate) to live until "Heroes Reborn" when a piece of shrapnel pierced his heart. At least, that's what I remember, because I have the first 10 issues or so of Heroes Reborn Iron Man. Someone can correct me if I missed something there. The original story, back when Iron Man debuted in Tales of Suspense, was that while in Vietnam seeing how his new inventions were helping the American war effort, he was caught in a booby trap that lodged a piecs of shrapnel in his heart. Captured and intered in POW camp, he and a fellow prisoner who happens to be a scientist develop the Iron Man suit in order to keep Tony alive. As a sidenote, for those that don't know, the first suit was all gray, and wasn't red and yellow till the next issue. There are 3 green guys, and 1 green woman, and in one screenshot you can see all 4 of them in the background with a hand coming out of the ground with a ring on it. The story is hard to follow, and the fact that Mandarin is a long dead emperor is lame. The shots showing the chest piece keeping his heart going made me laugh because Tony's heart looks like it's in his stomach when he's lying on the table. Whoever said the thing about the 4 elements was right. The only good thing they did was put Tony's dad in the movie, and they didn't even explore that relationship.
