We've just received word from Lucasfilm that a short teaser for the highly-anticipated animated series "Star Wars Rebels" will air this coming Monday during the premiere of "Mighty Med" on Disney XD. Tune in on Monday at 8:30 ET/PT to catch the teaser, but if you can't, don't worry, it'll be online shortly after.

This teaser was said by the producers to give an idea of the visual style of the show. It's a bit hard to gauge based on just a single star destroyer, but there are some key differences from the way The Clone Wars was rendered. Objects in The Clone Wars always reflected light very flatly because the aim was for everything to look hand-painted, like maquettes and dioramas. In the Rebels teaser, however, the ship is reflecting light in a style much more reminiscent of the classic ship models from the Original Trilogy. I also noticed that the lighting effect on the engines is far more realistic, with the same kind of bloom and lens flares that you'd get from a physical camera filming with air particles in the way (which doesn't make sense for outer space, but who cares; it's Star Wars).

It's been said here and there already that Rebels is going to be lower-budget than The Clone Wars, but more realistic on the whole. This seems to go right along with that.

Clone Wars showed how there can be other force users aside from the Jedi and Sith, and that the Sith often use unofficial dark side underlings as tools. Asajj Ventress was one, and Palpatine kidnapped a whole nursery of force-sensitive babies in one episode so he could raise them to be spies.

The idea's been around in the expanded universe since 1991, with Mara Jade being "the Emperor's Hand." The Force Unleashed also had Galen Marek, Vader's "secret apprentice" (who was in reality a tool of Palpatine).

It's worth noting that Michael Arndt had already been working on the Episode VII script for something like a year and a half, and there's no indication that he was kicked out or anything of the like. He just moved on. Abrams and Kasdan are mostly just taking over script revisions during the shooting phase, which starts in a few months.

The casting call for Star Wars VII:

SEEKING YOUNG WOMAN TO PLAY 17-18 YEAR OLD. MUST BE BEAUTIFUL, SMART AND ATHLETIC. OPEN TO ALL ETHNICITIES (INCLUDING BI AND MULTI RACIAL). MUST BE OVER 16.

RACHEL - Was quite young when she lost her parents. With no other family, she was forced to make her way in a tough, dangerous town. Now 17, she has become street smart and strong. She is able to take care of herself using humor and guts to get by.

Always a survivor, never a victim, she remains hopeful that she can move away from this harsh existence to a better life. She is always thinking of what she can do to move ahead.

SEEKING YOUNG MAN TO PLAY 19-23 YEARS OLD. MUST BE HANDSOME, SMART AND ATHLETIC. MUST BE OVER 18.

Thomas - Has grown up without a fathers influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn't have the strongest sense of himself, despite this he is smart, capable and shows courage when it is needed. He can appreciate the absurdities in life and understands you can't take life too seriously.

The first part of Rachel's story sounds like the female version of Luke. Good looking, lost her parents young, and living in a dangerous place.

I get the feeling that the girl is going to be a potential Jedi and the guy is going to be the Han-type. Or more accurately we have a Katara and a Sokka.

Apparently the first open auditions are on the 9th in Bristol! Maybe we'll finally get justice for David Prowse when a west country accent snags the lead.
