Stavros
If there needs to be a giant bearded chief god then Brian Blessed is the only choice. Amazing casting. This is totally going toward the cheesy B&TB Aquaman adventure style. "I call that one 'The revenge of the giant's bride!'"
slothian
Branagh has casted Blessed before in his version of Much Ado About Nothing (great film btw) so this shouldn't be surprising, but at the same time it's great to hear. You just expect it to be some random guy in a beard (think Bob Hoskins in Son of the Mask) and yet Branagh gets in the perfect guy, theoretically. Like the guy who wrote what was in the link, I now wonder whether Richard Briers gets in a cameo. If I see him playing chess with Stan Lee in some park, I will buy 8 copies of the DVD. Molly
Branagh has casted Blessed before in his version of Much Ado About Nothing (great film btw). He also cast Denzel Washington as an Italian Prince, Michael "I Have No Idea How Dogberry is Supposed to Act" Keaton and KEANU FUCKING REEVES as Don John. I like the movie and Branagh, but casting is hardly his strength.

Stavros
They are really pulling out the star power stops on these new Marvel films aren't they. Portman is a huge get and a big boost to what has been a quite minor character in recent times.
dc20willsave
Natalie Portman is good in everything unless it involves George Lucas. Then it can be blamed on terrible writing.

JackFetch
Jaimie Alexander (Kyle XY) and Colm Feore (The Chronicles of Riddick) have joined the cast of Thor, based on the Marvel Comics franchise, joining Star Trek Chris Hemsworth in the Kenneth Branagh-directed movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hemsworth will play the Norse god. Tom Hiddleston plays Loki, the god of mischief, who serves as the movie's villain, and Natalie Portman is Thor's human love, Jane Foster, the trade paper reported: In Marvel's epic fantasy, Alexander is playing Sif, a skilled Asgardian warrior who can hold her own against any man. She also is one of Thor's loves. Feore's character is shrouded in mystery—the studio isn't even sending the actors the script—though it is known to be a villain. The movie's story centers on Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions re-ignite an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. Once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth. http://scifiwire.com/2009/09/riddicks-nemesis-kyle-xys.php

JackFetch
Stellan Skarsgård has revealed to TT Spektra that he will have a role in Marvel Studios' Thor movie. Swedish site Ystads Allehanda reported on the casting in Swedish, but here is a rough translation: Stellan Skarsgård is ready for a role in action movie "Thor." Everything is still secret about the project and Skarsgård can not reveal what role he will play. "They wanted me to sign without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy," said Stellan Skarsgård to TT spectra. Some time ago it was said that Stellan Skarsgård's son, Alexander Skarsgård, was on his way to the title role in "Thor." In the end however, it became Chris Hemsworth, known for "Star Trek," who got the job. Paramount is eying a May 20, 2011 release for Thor. Kenneth Branagh will direct the comic book adaptation, starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Samuel L. Jackson. The epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. JackFetch
Hey folks, Harry here with the latest bit of Superhero Film Casting News and it is very strange indeed. According to actor, Matthias Schweighöfer, who you may have seen in VALKYRIE or RED BARON - in an article in the German edition of Gentlemen's Quarterly aka GQ, he states that he's in the running for a role in Branagh's THOR, but he also mentions that Jude Law and Robert DeNiro have joined the cast. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/42746 How much money are they throwing at this thing? Portman, DeNiro, and Law by themselves is half the budget of a normal movie.
