Green Lantern

Mind you, I don't see a live action JLA film working. Marvel's a little grounded, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, these are all earth-based heroes rooted in a scientific explanation, and they are all fundamentally human. GL, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, its a lot of crazy non-human stuff to be thrown in. I don't see them as being relatable in the same way as Marvel's heroes. Individually most of their stories are about the conflict of them trying to live with humans due to their backgrounds.

Were that completely true, then none of DC's super-films would ever work.

-Superman is really just a human that happens to have Kryptonian DNA; he was raised on Earth, and is every bit as human, mentally and emotionally, as everyone else.

-Green Lantern is a human that just happens to have a super-advanced power ring; furthermore, Hal Jordan is a flawed hero. He's a lot like Iron Man that way.

-Aquaman... well, no one cares about Aquaman anyway. He's got a whole undersea empire; that's cool at least.

-Wonder Woman is interesting in the way that she examines humanity as an outsider; she doesn't need to be human herself.

-Martian Manhunter [same as above]

There's no reason that modern film audiences can't deal with characters that aren't absolutely, directly related to the here and now. Star Wars should be proof enough of that.

I can accept one fish out of water, but when you have 5 you start asking why they are even bothering to protect us. You really do start to question their motives Lex Luthor style.

Star Wars is about ordinary people. Luke, Han, these are relatable characters, humans with backgrounds that make them what they are. People can aspire to be a Han Solo, he's a wily smuggler with a quick trigger finger. No-one is ever going to be Green Lantern or Superman. Those guys are fine for solo films because their story makes them stand out against the rest of us. 5 or more people with no close to normal background? It would have to be a really great script to give them each enough time to make it viable.

Not if they've already had solo films that explain them.

Luke Skywalker has superpowers, too.

Han Solo fights alongside a giant wolfman/bear/monkey.

Audiences can deal with a quite bit of otherworldness. Hell, look at Avatar; half the film's characters are blue aliens.

If there have already been solo films to give each character motivation, then there's no reason they can't just say "These characters exist in the same world, therefore it makes sense that they would team up to stop some great evil."

The best part is if they use Tomar Re, they can still have an off handed line like, "We all fail sometimes. I was trying to save a planet in my sector, still exploded. Poor Krypton."

 POD nomination. That would be cool though, as the Superman cameo has been scrapped. Guy Gardner is still appearing, maybe they could include John or Kyle.

Save John and Kyle for the sequel, no need to overload. Plus they are a good due to introduce together with their opposite backgrounds.

I was going to say, John came later, so he's a sequel character. Kyle I'd wait a few films for.

Also, Will, although I like the idea of Tomar saying that, it would be good if he just ended without saying it's Krypton.

Pertaining to the designs though, the only one I really like is Abin Sur. Tomar Re's beak and fin need to be more pronounced, and Kilowag needs to look more muscular and beastly.

I agree with all of that. Kilowog's head and neck are far too squat and wide. I hate when he's drawn like a mutated pig.

He is the main villain of the story. Remember, Hal is learning how to use the ring in this movie.

Sinestro is a good guy in this movie.

Yeah, I'm not real fond of all that.

Then again, I only know Hector Hammond from his appearance in the current GL comics, so I may just be uninformed as to Hammond's awesomeness as a villain.
