You're missing my point.

Life isn't about the shit that happens to you. It's about how you react to those things.

Stop worrying about the things that you can't control and work on the stuff that you can. Running away doesn't work.

Sorry about the fucked up posts here yesterday. It's just been one of those weeks where everything just hits at once.

My comment about the vacation meant that I want to just get out of the city for a few days, not run away from my problems, I know I'd have to deal with them, I would just rather have a break, and come back with a better perspective, than constantly feeling run down by the strain of it all.

I think my issue here is, I'm too much in my own head. Maybe I just need to cut myself some slack, and actually deal with the stuff that matters, and will affect me, and not get too involve in the stuff that doesn't.

Again, sorry about yesterday in this thread, it was all just getting a little too much for me at that time.

Fuck Best Buy in their fucking eye sockets.

I buy an iPod Touch in 2010 with the extended 2 year warranty. I ask specific questions about the warranty. "What happens if I need to use it?" Answer: "You get yours repaired or we will give you a NEW one." I capitalize new for a reason.

Turn the clock to 2012. Headphone jack on the iPod is not working. Warranty is still good until 3/22/12. Sweet, right? Nope.

I can only get a refurbished iPod. "But that is not what I was sold." Answer: "Fuck you." I try to explain this to the store manager, nothing.

Come back a week later, get told by the Geek Squad member I would be sent a NEW, NEW, FUCKING NEW, iPod within 3-5 days. Oh, well that is good.

4 days later, REFURBISHED iPod on my doorstep. Damn. Charge it up, use it. Got it on a Friday. Headphone jack broke on Sunday.

Go back to the store: "I want a NEW one like promised." Store: "FUCK YOU." Contact corporate. Answer: "FUCK YOU". Get another refurbished sent to my house.

4 days later, REFURBISHED iPod on my doorstep. Damn. Charge it up, use it. Got it on a Thursday. Headphone jack broke on Sunday.

Call corporate. Person who makes these decisions is, naturally, not in on Sunday. They will call be back tomorrow, but they are very doubtful I will get THE FUCKING NEW ONE THAT I WAS PROMISED WHEN I BOUGHT THE DAMN WARRANTY.

Their logic is that the warranty does not cover giving of new iPods. This is true. However, that is for warranties now. When I bought the warranty, the policy was to give new ones. So to type the analogy I used on them: I went to a restaurant and ordered a steak and got a bowl of lucky charms. Their only solution was for me to BUY a new iPod, but with a discount. The discount? $20. Cost of warranty: $70.

In Chicago, one of our newspapers has a section called The Problem Solver. The idea is, you write in with your issue, and then the paper goes to bat for you. Usually with great results. Is there anything like that in your area?

Frankly, if Best Buy is fucking people out of what's guaranteed in the warranties, that's something a newspaper will want to address and / or help with.

Currently on hold with Best Buy. Why? I never received my phone call on Monday as scheduled.

And now they hung up on me.

EDIT: So, 1.5 more hours of my life wasted on these bags of douche. And, yet again, we'll call you tomorrow. FUCK THIS SHIT IN ITS FUCKING SHITTY ASS.

Yeah, never buying another damn thing from this store.

EDIT 2: Mike, I don't know about any newspapers, but the local news does something similar.

lately, I really get the feeling that the current lady in my life is more into the idea of me, than me.

Think it's time to just call it quits. Basically she told me she couldn't get the time off work to come see me before I leave the states, it sucks but I understood. However, when I went to message her my overseas address today, I found out she flew to Chicago this morning to spend St. Patrick's Day there for whatever reason. To put this in context, she lives in the bay area of California, so going to Chicago is a big trip.

I mean, fuck, if she just didn't want to come out for whatever reason, that's one thing. I would have been hurt but at least it would have been the truth. I just fucking hate getting lied too. Plus, I guess I see where I stand to her, she'd rather go sightseeing and drinking in another state than saying goodbye to a guy she supposedly loves, a guy who (knock on wood) might not come back. I'm so over this.

And somehow, SOMEHOW, at 7PM on Friday March 16, 2012, Best Buy has managed to piss me off even more. I didn't think that was possible. Yet, here we are. I would applaud this achievement, but I am not in the mood.

And yet, I believe when they tell me to go fuck myself for the 900th time, I will be even more pissed. So, I have that going for me.

So, I'm attempting to clean out our tub in order to make it look pretty for the party we're having here tomorrow night. in the process of doing this, the draining mechanism, which has been shitty at best, decides to break, apparently permanently. So, having left a hell of a tense message on our landlord's answering machine (we've had issues in this past month), we have to hope we can find some way to get it to drain tomorrow, otherwise, yeah.

Incredibly frustrated with this landlord, to say the least.

The tub here is incredibly old, and the draining mechanism is a little metal stick in a circle that you have to manipulate in order to get the drain to close/open. And there's no drain cover. Basically, it looks like this:

Except add rust. The bathtub is stuck at half full, and has been since last night.

Nope, the front doesn't have screws on it, just two round circles where screws would be.

And it gets even better. It might not get fixed until Monday because our landlord doesn't know if their plumber is in town, or if they have the parts to fix it.

At least the roomie managed to drain it by hand to only an inch of standing water. Still, I am so goddamn pissed with our landlord, especially since she hasn't done anything about the mouse complaint.

It doesn't help that I'm coming into this weekend with my fourth consecutive rejection from a grad school.

At this point, I'm throwing up my hands, saying "fuck this shit", and baking a chocolate stout cake with Bailey's frosting, cause fuck it, it's St. Patrick's Day.

So, the girl in my life, now my ex, can go fuck herself.

I've been out of the country for 5 days, and she's already with someone else. The fucked up part is she didn't even tell me. The first time I'm around internet since leaving the states, I go to message her and am welcomed to posts on her Facebook about how she's in a relationship with another guy. So I message her and ask what's up with that, and the only response I get is "Don't talk to me like that."

Fucking awesome start to a deployment.

So, my father got fired back in February. Happily, he got severance pay, and the health insurance covers us until May. He's got a new job, and he's got new health insurance, which I'm covered under, which is good.

He failed to mention that prescription costs are now shifting to out of pocket. So, I'm looking at a prescription cost monthly going from $35 to possibly, oh, something like a hundred. And that's not even counting my sister, who's on an anti-seizure medication, god only knows how much that will cost.

Great job, Dad. Would've been nice to know about this a bit earlier than ordering my next refill.

And it doesn't help that on top of all this, my roomie decided to tell me last night that he's signing a lease at a new place tomorrow, and intends to move out at the end of May instead of in June, when he goes to Thailand. He's paying for his last few months of rent at least, which makes things easier. But, now I have to purchase some major things (like a TV, a laptop to be compatible with the new router), and a bunch of other little things, and get the utilities transferred over to my name. On their own, and done gradually between now and the original move out date of mid June, this would not have been an issue. But now I kind of have to scramble over a month to get all of this done.

So, yeah. Kind of sick of people not telling me things till the last minute and fucking me over.

For those of you who don't know, I work as a paralegal at a law firm. Whilst that's usually enough to damn my hypotheical soul to hypothetical hell, it's a civil law firm that usually defends local governments/companies against "Have You Had An Accident At Work?/Where There's Blame There's A Claim!" law firms. I'm not saying that all civil claims are fraudulent, because those that aren't we try to settle. But I've spent the last two working days on this one claim - to keep the right side of data protection laws, I won't identify the people/organisations - which has angered me due to the sheer gall of the man making the claim.

A law firm that sells itself on specialising in child abuse claims, sends my workplace a Letter of Claim (which essentially acts as a written J'accuse!) because we represent a council who ran the secure unit for juvenile criminals in that region at the time. The claimant, a man who has changed his name in the last 2 years and currently serving a prison sentence in Wales, accuses the council in question of failing to prevent him being sexually abused by a member of staff when he showered during his 18 month stint there. He doesn't specify at what point of his stay that he was abused (granted, it was 1995-96), but states that after it happened, he refused to shower as a result and staff acquiesced to his hygiene needs by offering him a bath instead.

Apparently it was this non-specific period of abuse that particularly disturbed the claimant, causing him depression, anger issues, suicidal thoughts and turning to alcohol & drugs to blot out the memories. So I'm tasked with going through 2 boxes of files the council have retained on the claimant to establish the validity of his claim. Here's what I found:

1) The reason he was admitted to the secure unit in the first place? His mother found him, aged 14, in a garden shed with a 6 year old boy on his lap, with both of their trousers down.

2) He was introduced to bathing over showering 5 months into his stay there due to him not showering properly, not because he refused to wash.

3) During those 5 months, he is recorded as having hidden under the beds of the female teenagers at that unit and peeked on them whilst they showered.

4) He was often caught pulling the latter stunt at the local swimming pool's changing rooms.

5) He would continue to shower after being introduced to bathing, and still not properly wash himself. The staff told his social worker that they would have to be very delicate in showing him how to properly wash himself.

6) Before the bathing, his psychiatric counselling notes saw him admit to having intercourse with his same-age girlfriend when he was 7.

7) 13 months after leaving this unit, he reveals that he was sexually abused by his father between the ages of 3-5, although he declines to press charges.

8) His father's background check shows that he was also a teenage child molester, and attempted racist. His father's mother also alleges that he had sex with his sister/the claimant's aunt when she turned 16, whilst his uncle went to prison for taking the rap for his (the uncle's) wife being found in bed with a 7 year old boy.

In short, an imprisoned Category One sex offender is trying to get money out of a local council, at a time of nationwide recession, by accusing a staff member of sexually assaulting him. Whether or not that actually happened (I can't say with 100% certainty that it didn't), he is asserting that him being fondled in a shadow has made him the person he is today. Over his father allegedly sexually abusing him as a toddler - an accusation that he doesn't back down from - and completely ignoring the event that got him sent to the secure unit in the first place.

That is STAGGERING. Even if I don't care for the law firm he's using, if they had been told the truth, or seen the records I'd seen, there is NO WAY they would have taken this claim on. And it wastes their money too, as my time is worth £118 an hour (if I only I were actually paid that) and I have sunk two 7 hour days worth of time into going over 2 boxes of records and preparing a chronology. Unless some kind of left-field Phoenix Wright evidence appears out of nowhere, the combined cost of putting the evidence together to reply to the law firm means that they will be handing over a minimum of £2000 to us if they immediately discontinue the claim.

Moreover, the sheer opportunism of this "man" is sickening. The whole "No Win, No Fee" promotes a very dangerous litigation culture. I genuinely like America, but if we ever fully convert to the depths of the "I'll sue you!" mentality that pervades your culture then it doesn't bode well for out society. And I get to read shit on this level every other week.

Spleen vented.
