Dan
For fuck's sake, can we just fucking vote already?!?!? I am SO fucking sick of this whole process.
Dread
"Hey, wanna, I don't know, hold and election or something?" "Cool man." "Alright, let's go vote and stuff." Canada for the win!
Guest
And your votes count about as much as ours do. I don't vote as a rule. As Tom Morello put it best, "If voting meant anything, it'd be illegal".
SuaveStar
Just remember, on November 4th, vote Zod. He got my vote now that I can't vote for Des. What? I'm not American! Darn.
Guest
Seriously though, I'm sick and fucking tired of hearing about this goddamn election like it matters. "This is the most important election of-" FUCK YOU. EVERY election is the most important until the next one. It's like Tony Schiavone is in control of the media hyperbole department. And these fucking voting recruiters that come out of the woodwork every four years, acting like they're making a fucking difference. Oh, you want me to vote, but only if I vote for the black guy or the dying white guy, the two that just happen to have the most money. "Third party? What the fuck is that? My brain can only handle up to two." If I want to vote Socialist or write in David Hasslehoff, I'm suddenly not even worthy enough to lick your balls. And enough of these fucking bumper stickers and buttons. Tell me why I should vote for Obama without using the words "hope" or "change" one fucking time. Tell me why I should vote for McCain without using the words "Vietnam", "Palin", or "negro". I fucking dare you, you smug son of a bitch. Everyone's soooo concerned with getting more people to vote, but no one apparently gives two fucks whether or not these people are informed, that they know what the issues are, or even know their fucking names. "No, just vote red or blue. Pick your favorite color, we don't care. You don't elect fuck all anyway. You ever heard of the electoral college? Of course you haven't, let's keep it that way. We knew you sheep weren't smart enough to make this decision, that's why we took it out of your hands a long time ago." All we're doing is waiting to see who the next person we'll bitch about is gonna be, and it can't fucking end quickly enough. Sorry, had to let that all out. Dread
Actually, the money each political party in Canada gets is poroportional to the percent of votes they receive. That's why my Canadian vote counts.
Guest
I meant your vote counts in the American election about as much as ours does. Though you guys don't even get to vote for your own Prime Minister, which is kinda fucked up.

Guest
Both of which are flawed systems, in my opinion. Indirect democracy CAN work, but the government, and the media as a whole need to be a lot more straight about it.
Stavros
With us we've had an unelected leader in charge of our nation for over a year now, and its no bad thing. The man won the vote inside his party and the party speaks for their constituencies. If he's bad then he's called to account at the next general election, so its in the interest of the ruling party to play fair with the people, or it could cost them their position of power. I'm damn sure happier about our system than the US one, and thats the one thats going to have the most impact internationally.

Well, Stavros you know more about UK politics than I ever will.....lets keep it that way. Your right thought, we have had someone who has been unelected in power for over a year, and it's now that I notice the irony of that in what is meant to be a democracy. Now for someone to chime in on why my political view is wrong.

Now for someone to chime in on why my political view is wrong. We are a democracy, but our rules can be played a little fast and loose because of the nature of our nation. We have no constitution, just a constitutional monarchy that allows the government to rule at its pleasure. The check and balances that so paralyze the US system are not evident because they are unspoken, a series of traditions and silent agreements that maintain our government. The vast majority of newly democratic nations deliberately avoid both the UK and US systems because from an academic standing they are massively flawed as working models of democracy. Its the height of irony that the model most followed for new systems is Germany, a system that remains largely unchanged from the one that elected Hitler. This is whats considered preferable to aping our so called western democracy.
James D.
The electoral college is a good way to run things, though, compared to the alternative. Look at states like Wyoming. If it were popular vote, they'd have a fraction of jack shit for a say in who gets elected. At least with the electoral college, they have 3 votes (which is an infinitely better percentage than it would be in a popular vote).
Guest
They still do get a fraction of jack shit though. 3 votes is the same amount DC gets, which isn't even a state. California gets 55. It's all determined by population anyway, just one system is less precise than the other, and even if the majority of actual people vote for one candidate, that doesn't mean anything (like in 2000). States themselves don't get up and go to voting booths. People do. If there are 15 people in Wyoming and 100 in California, about 48 people from California could vote for the same guy that 13 people in Wyoming did, but it doesn't mean a thing because the other guy is getting all of those 100 votes. Like I said, the system could work, but there needs to be more of an emphasis on educating the public as to how it works.

Guest DCAUFan1051
I'm hoping AT&T can get out here today or tomorrow because I'm sick of having to use the office PC to ghet online...... I hate not having internet at home. For the simple fact that the iTunes Store will not work without the internet and I can't update my podcasts or anything. This fucking sucks!!!!!!!!! but I'm going to call AT&T here in a few minutes here's hoping they have an opening. I think I might pull what hair I have left OUT if they can't get out here in a decent timeframe lol
Stavros
I'm about as upset as I've been all year right now. I lost something today that I've only had for a short while but in that time it grew because a big part of my life and my future. I was never going to let it go, it improved me as a person and completed me in so many ways. Now I'm alone, subject to the ridicule of others and the harsh nature of the elements. Goodbye my friend. I'll never forget you. I'll replace you as soon as I can. Stavros' beard. June 2008-November 2008. Seriously, I slipped whilst trimming the damn thing and gouged a big old gap that I couldn't make work even with extensive effort. The whole damn thing had to go so I could start from scratch. It wasn't my first beard but it was the first time I'd gone with a mustache as well and it was turning out just fine. One thing I've realized after this- I need a beard. I feel stupid looking in the mirror without it. Not as stupid as I felt looking in the mirror at me with just the mustache though, I'm annoyed that it had to be gone by proxy but I wasn't keeping it by itself. Damn it all to hell, this means months of effort to get back into shape. Its going to be 2009 before I look my best again.

Guest
Ha. I've been trying to grow an epic beard ever since Evan Tanner died, but I'm not predisposed to having much in the way of facial hair. I feel your pain.
SuaveStar
You know theirs some of us stuck with shitty stuble and can't make it to a beard! Why is it that everyman who can grow facial hair looks like a twelve year old when they shave it off? Exception being Tom Selleck

Stavros
Been there, brother. I feel for you. I look like a fat twelve year old with no beard. I've been losing weight so my damn face is a different shape to when I started. I don't like this chin, its not mine. Of course today people at work were saying how much they didn't like it anyway. Fuck them! I loved that facial hair. My housemates had a beard for about 5 years now and in a few short months I'd eclipsed him. Now I'm a hairless freak. He's regained his position of pride in the house, which is just wrong because I live to put him down.
