SuaveStar
My order changed fifty times. So I have 29 comics and stuff getting sent across to me in the month of July, thankfully August is really light. Plus, I really like the look of Greek Street and it was 25cents. Just a head's up: the website has been updated indicating that you'll get a free Blackest Night ring if you get the 75% off copy of Blackest Night #1. It doesn't say that for me? Also Koete, as your a goon fan, do you think I would enjoy the Goon one shot coming out?
Koete
Just a head's up: the website has been updated indicating that you'll get a free Blackest Night ring if you get the 75% off copy of Blackest Night #1. It doesn't say that for me? If you add it to your order, it will show up as having the ring. And also Suave, I take it you have an account on the site? You have until the final order submission date to edit your order. You can open your order for edit until that date on the site and add or subtract items through the site without needing to send out an e-mail everytime you want to edit it. Also Koete, as your a goon fan, do you think I would enjoy the Goon one shot coming out? Since it's a one-shot and there's no series commitment, I think this would be a great opportunity to get a feel for The Goon and decide if you want to seek out the trades or not. SuaveStar
That it be sir, that it be. Is it just me or is it jarring the first time you go in a comic shop and see the shelf with stuff you usually buy but then say "Oh wait, I'm getting that at the end of the month.....for cheaper." Dread
Dropped the Red Circle stuff, Don't even want to spend $6 to see JMS ruin four good properties. Dread
And I added the first Agents of Atlas trades. From the sound of it, just from the supplemental material, it's worth the full price let alone the 40% discount I'm getting!

Koete
This week I had something of a revelation, that revelation being that it's time I changed my buying habits. It began when I became aware of the manga Stan Lee co-created beginning it's serialization in Shonen Jump. I'm a fan of manga and I'm a fan of Stan Lee, so this seemed like something worth checking out. And the more I thought about it, the more I began to look at how I was spending money on comics. First off was the cost. After DCBS discount, an issue of Shonen Jump magazine costs $3.24 and serializes seven ongoing stories, each chapter of which is at least the length of an issue of an American comic if not more. It pretty much equates to seven stories for the price of a Bendis book. Sounds like a good deal to me. This led me to think about my buying habits concerning single issues. I've been ordering through DCBS for almost two years. When I began, I was ordering about 30 floppies a month plus a trade or two. Now I'm at about 6-8 floppies plus a trade or two. I started asking myself if it was worth getting those floppies when subtracting 3 would open up room for a 200 page manga and 5 could be exchanged for a 500 page Showcase or Essential. I started thinking about value. And I came to the conclusion that floppies aren't worth it. I tried switching to trade earlier in the year but quickly went back to to floppies. This time I've made the decision to switch to trades definite (except for a few independents I want to support and anything written by Grant Morrison). Thinking more about it, all I do is read my floppies and then toss them into a longbox. I never pull them out again, but with my trades, sometimes I'll just walk by my shelves and pull one of and flip through it or start reading it. It seems like a no brainer. The other part of it is, after thinking about it, I'm bored with the current mainstream super-heroics. I was a big fan of Nova, but recently, my interest in it has dived, especially with what looks like a rip-off of the Sinestro Corps on the way. Throughout the "Death of Captain America" arc, Captain America blew me away month after month. After the arc ended it just felt...average. Same for Green Lantern. I was so hyped after Sinestro Corps War for Green Lantern and it was pretty interesting for the few months afterward. Then Secret Origin started up and it just...kept going. I felt the same about "Thy Kingdom Come" over at JSA. Don't get me wrong, I'm still looking forward to reading the actual Blackest Night event, but going back to my thoughts on single issues, I don't just want the issues to get tossed in the longbox. That's a story I want to spend an afternoon reading and have the HC on my shelf. After thinking about Stan's manga in Shonen Jump, I got excited about manga again. I used to be heavy into manga, but when I got back into American comics, I didn't have the budget for both so the manga had to go. The prospect of starting new series and picking up on some manga series where I left off has me the most excited about comics since R.I.P./Final Crisis. Wow, that was a lot longer than I planned on it being. Guess I had a bit to write out. Below is my final revision of the current DCBS order. I feel I've hit something of a turn point in my comic reading and I'm looking forward to it. PREVIEWS #251 AUGUST 2009 (Net) G-MAN CAPE CRISIS #1 (OF 5) OCEANVERSE #1 BATMAN AND ROBIN #2 BATMAN AND ROBIN #3 NEXUS AS IT HAPPENED TP VOL 01 SHONEN JUMP SEPTEMBER 09 SHONEN JUMP OCTOBER 09 PLUTO URASAWA X TEZUKA GN VOL 01 NAOKI URASAWA 20TH CENTURY BOYS GN VOL 01 SILENT MOBIUS COMPLETE ED GN VOL
SuaveStar
Yeah, I came to that conclusion too. Even though I have all my comics in a box next to me, I usually read while travelling somewhere and it's a lot easier to grab a trade holding six issues of secret six(Which is awesome) rather than the six issues. Plus the lack of ads. I mean, I've switched tiny titans and secret six over to trade starting this month(What's great about DCBS is I can plan months in advance and not just backtrack on the wedensday before it's released over here) also I am starting to feel the same about Blackest night Koete, I mean, yes it will be awesome, but it would make such a nice trade to read all in one go. I mean I just got the sinestro corps war part two trade and I can't wait to read it. Also, I'm going back and forth about Grant Morrisons Batman and Robin, I mean their going to All Star Superman it and make it two trades, and without Frank Quitely, do I really want to read it, the story arc with the return of Dr Hurt is the only one that interests me, and I wouldn't mind getting the hardcover. You know what, I may just make a thread about waiting for the trade.
