The Joker's Groupie
I have a question. is this also going to be a comic reel-if
Missy
Before anyone asks how James Bond relates to a "geek culture" website, all me to say this: Ian convinced me that James Bond isn't that far off from a superhero, and that the movies boarder on sci-fi thanks to his gadgets. So there you go.
Missy
I have a question. is this also going to be a comic reel-if That's not a bad idea! There have been a few James Bond comic books, so a Comic Reel-lief about Bond would make for a nice teaser for the show, Ian. Your call, though, 'cause I know you're busy! slothian
Before anyone asks how James Bond relates to a "geek culture" website, all me to say this: Ian convinced me that James Bond isn't that far off from a superhero, and that the movies boarder on sci-fi thanks to his gadgets. So there you go. Isn't Bond basically Batman without the costume? Just more English. But now you mention it... Adam West-ish jokey portrayal = Roger Moore Michael Keaton-ish dark, violent portrayal = Timothy Dalton Val Kilmer-ish solid performance without a definitive stamp = Pierce Brosnan George Lazenby-ish useless one off performance = George Clooney Christian Bale breath of fresh air = Daniel Craig Good catch! As for CR, Adham and I would like to branch out into the unofficial films (as there's been three thus far) and possibly other things like the cartoon series James Bond Jr. (Adham more than me) because the show only has a lifespan of about two years. But as Mike says, I'm terribly busy at the moment and it's affecting my regular Earth-2 contributions enough as it is without formulating links between my ish and this new podcast. Maybe in the future though - don't rule it out!
Missy
Great catch with the Batman connection, but you forgot one: supposedly Adam West was almost Sean Connery's replacement!
annericelover
Are you going to seperate it in eras, like: Sean Connery Era Roger Moore Era Timothy Daltron era Pierce Bronson era I forget the new guys name and the original Black & White film Casino Royale(not the spoof or remake)from 1961. There's also the Austin Power spoofs and James Bond Jr.

Guest
I've never seen a James Bond movie I liked. Not one. Only someone like Sloth could actually make me want to listen to this. Damn you and your accent...

Dread
I've never seen a James Bond movie I liked. Not one. Only someone like Sloth could actually make me want to listen to this. Damn you and your accent... Ditto. Except Casino Royale. Good movie, not great but about a million times better than any of the other films. I'll still be listening. Damn your sly Canadian woman stealing silver tongued tea-drinking devilry!
Stavros
Fuck anyone who thinks its cool to hate on Lazenby. I'm not a fan of the man himself, but On Her Majestys Secret Service was an awesome film, much better than most other Bond films. Lazenby was a big part of all that, plus Diana Rigg FTW. slothian
Fuck anyone who thinks its cool to hate on Lazenby. I'm not a fan of the man himself, but On Her Majestys Secret Service was an awesome film, much better than most other Bond films. Lazenby was a big part of all that, plus Diana Rigg FTW. I don't think it's cool to hate on Lazenby, per se, and I certainly don't think the Bond team had an easy job following the initial Sean Connery run. But Lazenby only had the one film to make his mark and unlike Daniel Craig, he didn't capture the imagination to the same extent. Still that discussion will come in October. Yoda: Can hardly forget about Connery, although he's regarded as the benchmark against which subsequent Bonds are measured; something that isn't quite true for Adam West & Batman! That said, I didn't know he was up for Bond, although he and Roger Moore could have been interchangeable over the course of that era.... Ricelover: The plan is to do it in the official chronology first before dealing with the extras, so Lazenby would come between the last two canon Connery plans, then Moore, Dalton, Brosnan and Craig. Q: Adham deserves the official credit for the title, much as I'd love to claim it for myself! Dubs: At heart, the Bond franchise is basically an Englishman's wet dream and doesn't extend too far outside that demographic. That said, I do want to convince the listenership each month that the film has something to recommend itself outside of the basic formula, as some take on a more sci-fi bent, or classic espionage, or gritty action. Of course, there are some stinkers too, but they'll be fun reviews too! Des: I charm Canadian women too nowadays? Nice one!!
Guest
I've never seen a James Bond movie I liked. Not one. You must have seen a lot of the Roger Moore Bonds, then... I've seen at least one from each actor portrayal. The whole series just reeks to me of male fantasy fufillment, and James Bond himself doesn't really have much of a character, in my eyes. Erin B.
I better air out my cocktail dress. Sounds like I am about to be swept off my feet by another podcast.
slothian
Less than a week to go now, so yes! I'm not calling my co-host sleazy, per se, but the mention of a cocktail dress and being swept off your feet makes me mentally countdown when he might post in here again! That said, please don't take that as message not to post in this folder - recording Dr No (both times!) was a blast and I'm looking forward to From Russia With Love because I haven't watched that in ages. Hopefully it comes across!
Stavros
Those trailers certainly did thier work because I'm quite looking forward to this, not least because this is the only podcast with a British voice that not Stephen Fry on my To Listen To list. slothian
As soon as I finished editing down the Goldfinger podcast, I check my inbox and Adham recommended that I add this in somehow! Sadly the window of opportunity for that was shut, but if it'll get you all in a Goldfinger mood.....
