Yeah, in a couple of "alternate universe" audio dramas. He is, of course, the man.

DR Who has a multiverse!?

Yup.

Mickey Smith

decided to stay in a different reality, and, later,

Rose was sucked into that same world

. The fourth season episode "Turn Left" created its own alternate reality, one in which the Doctor died because he never met Donna.

Doctor Who unveils new companion for 11th Time Lord

The BBC today revealed that the companion for the forthcoming series of Doctor Who will be Karen Gillan.

Twenty-one-year-old Gillan will star alongside new Time Lord, Matt Smith, when the smash hit drama returns to BBC One in spring 2010.

With filming due to begin this summer, Gillan beat off dozens of hopefuls to land one of television's most coveted roles.

Gillan said: "I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion. The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can't quite believe I am going to be a part of it.

"Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him – I just can't wait to get started!"

Lead writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, added: "We saw some amazing actresses for this part, but when Karen came through the door the game was up. Funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it. A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too."

Executive Producer and Head of Drama BBC Wales, Piers Wenger, said: "We knew Karen was perfect for the role the moment we saw her. She brought an energy and excitement to the part that was just fantastic. And when she auditioned alongside Matt we knew we had something special. It is a partnership that is ready to take on the universe!"

The new series of Doctor Who comes to BBC One, Spring 2010.

Yes, they're building to something with Rose. Off the top of my head, they tease this in Partners in Crime, The Poison Sky, Midnight and Turn Left. The payoff comes in the last story of the season, The Stolen Earth / Journey's End.

Thinking she's just another gawker, Donna briefly talks to Rose on the street in Partners in Crime. In both The Poison Sky and Midnight, Rose appears on computer monitors for a split second. She's a big part of Turn Left. And then, as I said before, there's a payoff in The Stolen Earth / Journey's End.

Last night at the National Film Theatre in London, Russell T Davies presented a preview of the first episode of the upcoming all-five-episodes-in-a-week season of Doctor Who-spinoff BBC TV show Torchwood.

The series, called Torchwood: Children Of Earth was followed by series creator Russell T Davies taking questions.

Davies wants more Torchwood/Doctor Who spinoffs, but would only be drawn to a mention of the Doctor in the last episode of the new Torchwood series. Though he will appear in the upcoming third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

A fourth series of Torchwood is in pre-production but has not yet been greenlit. Russell has no plans to leave Torchwood - that’s if it gets a fourth series. The reception to the third series will determine that.

He also let people know that the inside of the TARDIS is getting a more retro look in the fifth series and that the Eleventh Doctor played by Matt Smith, will be

facing Daleks

in his very first episode.

Torchwood: Children of Earth will show in the UK and the USA in July.

Crud, not more Daleks. Seriously people, give them some time off unless the last specials of the year give a good reason for them coming back.
