KnightWing
Actually, the parallel to the comic that would match my point is instead of Dave getting the girl, her laughing in his face and sending him a picture of her blowing her boyfriend. Yeah, see, I didn't like that.
Koete
Yeah, see, I didn't like that. Can you give me more to go on?
KnightWing
It felt like an over-the-top Mark Millar thing to do. "Hahaha, look at this kid's terrible life! Hahaha!" Like a punchline to a joke that was a little too dark for me to laugh at. As unrealistic as the movie's happy ending was, it gave a bit of levity and optimism that balanced the story's bleakness. Koete
Except the ending to the comic was true to what the comic was doing. Just because Dave puts on a costume and gets the shit beat out of him doesn't make him less of a loser.
KnightWing
Just because Dave puts on a costume and gets the shit beat out of him doesn't make him less of a loser. No, but the fact that he helped a few people in need and helped take down a major crime boss definitely do make him less of a loser. I don't really think the comic was doing much aside from Millar giggling to himself because he got to put an insane amount of sex, violence, and swearing into a book filled with pessimism. That's exactly what it was and the changes the movie made didn't improve it any.

I was able to walk out of the movie with a smile.
Molly
Guys, guys, it's okay. They both fucking sucked. EDIT: And comparatively Darkplace has NOTHING on Boosh and the IT Crowd, but I still quite enjoy it. I have a feeling that Ian had a grasshopper boy die in front of him once. I liked the concept of Darkplace but the guy playing Marenghi was so awful (at playing an awful writer turned actor) and the thing was so centred on him that it made it hard to fully get into. I do love the opening titles though.

James D.
Body of Proof This new show with Dana Delany is pretty damn good. I hope it sticks around.
SuaveStar
Sudden Impact: The worst of the Dirty Harry films so far. This follows the same formula, but tries to take Harry out of his element, and at that point, the entire film falls apart, before coming to a crappy conclusion. I've only got The Dead Pool left to see, and then I am finished with the Dirty Harry series.
dc20willsave
Robin Hood (1973): This is the Disney animated film. I mostly like it, music wise it's a pretty great film. However, the ending leaves something to be desired, namely that we go from a chase scene to Robin Hood and Marian are married and King Richard is back. That and many of the character designs and bits of animation are kinda lifted wholesale from other Disney films. I dare you to watch this and The Jungle Book back to back and not mix up Little John with Baloo or Sir Hiss with Kaa or the Vulture Guards with the Vultures. A good film that was obviously made on a budget.
slothian
As someone who comes from the East Midlands (ie/ Robin Hood Country), I will not hear anything bad said against good Robin Hood films, which the Disney version most certainly is. In fairness Austen, you didn't Suave this film as there are admitted budgetary cutbacks, but if your biggest complaint is the somewhat convenient ending (for one thing, it's a DISNEY film!!!) then we're not going to fall out!! That said, my blood boils at the inclusion of American Football........
dc20willsave
Ummm, Ian, I was the one who made the post about Robin Hood, not Austen.
slothian
......I think I'm so paranoid of any criticism of Robin Hood, I just assume it's from Austen! Apologies to you both! That, and I'm getting competetive about the Extra Lives competition clearly!!
Venneh
See, I think that it's cute, except for the part where one of my exes was inspired to his lifelong pursuit of chivalry off of it, and holds this Robin Hood up as one of his heroes. That, and I'm sure it's inspired a furry or three.
slothian
Obviously I don't know your ex, but there are worse things than pursuing chivalry as a lifestyle choice! And Robin Hood was a hero of mine as a boy because he was from my area. When I was a young lad, no-one spun Robin Hood to me as a violent guerilla socialist who would rather destabilise the social order of Nottingham than seek his aims through legitimate political means - bear in mind Prince John eventually HAD to sign the Magna Carta! But still, Robin Hood's teh awesome! He dresses in green and lives in a forest, living a life of adventure!!! Sign me up!!
Dan
That, and I'm sure it's inspired a furry or three. Granted, that has to be true, but really, you could say the same for virtually any of Disney's flicks.
MaxPower
I used to want to be Robin Hood when was I was a little kid, but I ended up being Prince John.... *sigh* ....
SuaveStar
Dragon: The Bruce Lee story Good, but nothing special is the best way I can describe the film. It is enjoyable, but the ending is just so well it just takes you out of the film, and taints your enjoyment of the film you'd just watched. Edit: wrong film Edited April 8, 2011 by SuaveStar
