Hmm, this is a tough one to set up.

Hmm, I'll take the lazy way out. They're pissed at eachother, for lord knows what reason. They're fighting in a city neither of them are familiar with, for the sake of it, we say Chicago.

Neither the X Men nor the Fantastic Four are able to interfere in this contest. Pryo has his blowtorches, but I somehow doubt it will do him any good. Human Torch is Human Torch, and both are 100% peak physical condition going into the fight.

Assuming Torch is allowed to go supernova, this is over before it starts. If memory serves me, Johnny destroyed several square blocks of NYC (including a university) when he went nova once before (I'm thinking that happened right before FF #400), so Pyro doesn't stand a snowball's chance in Hell.

And even if Johnny plays it safe and refrains from cutting loose, Pyro still looses. Why? He needs a spark (unlike Johnny), so all Torch has to do is destroy Pyro's tanks and it's over.

Um, is everyone forgetting that Pyro mentally controls fire? He could take control of Storm's body and do whatever the hell he wanted to with him.

That's what I was thinking.

Nope. Johnny cannot be hurt by 01. his own flames and 02. fire (in general). Pyro, on the other hand, is susceptible to fire, and loses as soon as Johnny goes supernova or takes out the Aussie's tanks.

Okay, Johnny "flames off" and Pyro can't do shit to him because (as I said) fire cannot hurt Torch. So it comes down to a fistfight, in which case Johnny still wins. (How can I justify Johnny beating Pyro with his fists? Easily. He's fought Ben enough to know how to throw a few good punches.)

Can't comment about Pyro's costume, because it's been too long since I've see it. However, he needs to be able to see a flame in order to control it. Meaning, if Johnny can block Pyro's line of sight or get behind him, Pyro cannot stop Torch's flames from destroying his tanks.

Torch can also raise the ambient temperature within a radius of about 80ft a few hundred degrees. So, he blows up Pyro's gas tanks, and Pyro dies. And since they're in a city, it would be really easy for Torch to get within 80 ft. of Pyro without Pyro seeing him.

From his Marvel Directory Bio:

The Human Torch has the ability to mentally control the ambient heat energy within his immediate environment, even when he himself is not aflame. He can reduce objects' temperatures (if they are in a normal range for existing on Earth's surface) to about 30 F, raise them to several hundred degrees, or extinguish open flames. His radius of influence is about 80 feet.

Pyro just got pwned!

Pyro is invulnerable to any fire that he has placed under his mental control and has the psionic ability to cause any fire to grow in size and intensity and to take any form he wishes, even that of a living creature. (Such fire creatures, however, have no intelligence or life.) He can psionically manipulate the flame to do whatever he desires. Pyro's fiery creations have greater solidity than normal flame; hence a giant "bird" he created from fire could grasp and carry a solid object with its claws. The degree of Pyro's concentration necessary to manipulate a flame being is directly proportional to the being's size, power, and flame.

Pyro may not be able to harm Johnny with fire, but he can still harm him with density.

...except that would mean liquifying innocents within 80 feet of Pyro. Would Johnny Storm do that? Nope!

Nope. Johnny can focus his powers, so he'd be able to focus on exactly what he wanted heated up.

As for the density: So Johnny takes a few licks. Never said it would be an easy task to best Pyro without "flaming on" but it can be done.

Even if he attempts to do that (which seems really Green Lanternish), Johnny would still have enough time to raise the temperature of Pyro's tanks. The resulting explosion would cause the mutant to lose his concentration, and therefore control over the vice. In that moment of confusion, Johnny would have enough time to jump Pyro and engage him in a fistfight.

Question: What does Pyro use as fuel? Standard gasoline or something else?

Yeah, but that depends on Pyro being able to see Torch. Torch doesn't have to be aflame to heat Pyro's Tanks, and therefore could remain incognito.

Exactly! All Johnny has to do is find some cover and heat the tanks while Pyro searches for him.

Consider this (part 01): If Pyro uses gasoline in his tanks, he's screwed. Why? Unleaded gasoline has a certain percentage of water. Since Johnny can also lower temperatures, all he has to do is lower it enough to freeze the water in the gas, and the tanks are useless. However, if Pyro uses another sort of fuel, this might not work.

Consider this (part 02): Johnny can extinguish any flame (whether he's aflame or not), so the vice would be snuffed out before it even touched him.

30 degrees F isn't cold enough to freeze gas.

I said the water that is in the gas.
