I'm guessing you want films that can't be covered in E-2 or Dread Media, so:

Angela's Ashes.

Law abiding citizen.

Shop girl.

Novocaine.

LA Story.

Snatch.

Elephant.(The film about the columbine massacre, told from students perspective.)

What's eating Gilbert Grape.

What dreams may come.

The world according to Garp.

Pleasentville (The racist theme is played in really well halfway through the film)

Fargo.

The big Lebowski

Kingpin.

Kenneth Bragnagh's Shakesphere films.

Adaptation.

The game.

Virtuosity (Though, it's Sci-Fi, so it could be E-2)

What about Bob?

Where the buffalo roam.

Fear and loathing in Las Vegas.

The jerk.

Cocktail.

Risky business.

Rocky(Say what you want about the sequels, but this alone is pretty dark, especially with the original draft having Rocky take a dive.)

That's all I have right now.

Any movies? Is this going to be like a thing where you look at your own favourites or are you going to be open to a lot of suggestions for film's you don't already have experience with?

Films I'd recommend that you might not have seen-

the Prestige- aka what Bale & Nolan did between Batmans. Jackman, Johansson, Bowie, Caine, Serkis, the cast list alone is enough to justify your interest, but the tale of bitter rival stage magicians using science to create illusion is one of the best I've ever watched. Plus it really only gets better every time you watch it.

Matchstick Men- One of Nicholas Cage's rare great performances, and Sam Rockwell is just about the most watchable man in film. Alison Lohman as well, of Drag Me to Hell fame.

Narc- Awesome little hard-bitten cop mystery with Jason Patric and Ray Liotta. Its pretty rough in what it deals with but well worth a look.

Brick- Stylishly awesome debut feature by Rian Johnson that kick-started former 3rd Rock star Joseph Gordon Levitt's film career. Noir in a high school, but played straight.

Aside from those the usual's I suppose, American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, American Psycho, anything pixar touches etc. I'm a huge fan of early stallone so I'd echo requests for Rock and First Blood, although sequel-wise only Rocky IV is really worth a review. The Rambo's turn to shit and whilst I like the Rocky series more than is strictly healthy they don't really merit a film-by-film critique.

I'd also appreciate a gradual approach in the cast of some works. For example don't cover Adaptation without covering Being John Malkovich first, for example. One provides vital insight into the other.

Not necessarily, though I would like to stay away from horror as this will give me the time to go back and watch some of my non-favorite non-horror films. Seeing as the hosts will be Megan and I, I'm not worried about crossing over.

Absolutely. Many of these have places very high on my list and the chick flicks are some of Meg's interests as well.

Shop girl.

Novocaine.

LA Story.

Elephant.

What's eating Gilbert Grape.

What dreams may come.

The world according to Garp.

Fargo.

Cocktail.

Risky business.

These ones, though many are good films and would be fun to watch and discuss with Megan, they don't really fall into the Chick Flick/Guy Flick dichotomy.

Thanks for the suggestions, they are duly noted. I think I need to make a spreadsheet or something,

So funny, I'm not touching that list to change it one bit. The last two are interesting. The Craft is good for what it is and Megan has NEVER liked Princess Bride while I adore it. Might be one for the April Fools episode...I've said too much!

Ah ok, I get you now.

I think you should think twice about shop girl, as it is a great film, that is really a love story, with a thorn in the side.

Though I like the pairings, it is unlikely all of these films will be covered. Disney I don't really see happening unless it's like Mary poppins or something but even then, they're kids films and not chick flicks.

Sofia Coppola's Marie Antionette

Meg would be interested, I'm sure.

Also: Con Air, Con Air, Con Air, a thousand times Con Air.

Well, we'll only cover it once.

Your wife doesn't like Princess Bride? I know she's the love of your life and the mother of your sons, but if it ever comes up, I think that's grounds for divorce.

I know, right?

We have both seen Shop Girl. And loved it. Still not a chick flick as it is told form the perspective of the male. Not really a guys film either.

Ok, didn't know whether you'd seen it or not.

What about lost in translation(I swear I'm the only person who didn't enjoy it)? Think you might say the same about this, still, I might aswell put it up.

Also, what about Die Hard, he's almost going to get back together with his wife, at Christmas, if it wasn't for that dastardly Alan Rickman!

Since Die Hard is the ultimate Guy's Movie, you need to accompany it with the Ultimate Chick Flick like Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman, basically anything Julia Roberts.

What you need to do for April Fool's is do a role reversal where you choose a Chick Flick that has most of the features of a Guy Flick (Elizabeth, Kill Bill, or Thelma and Louise comes to mind) and a guy flick that has Chick Flick qualities (The Shawshank Redemption, Field of Dreams, or Good Will Hunting.)

Overall, this is sounding like a rather fun podcast. Looking forward to it.

First off, looking forward to hearing from you two on these.

For me, I'd love to see the following covered:

-The Boondock Saints

-Up

-Wall-E

-300

-Moulin Rouge (preferably with a drinking game involved for your sanity)

-Pan's Labyrinth (if it hasn't already been covered)

-Zack and Miri Make a Porno

-Any Tarantino movies

-V for Vendetta

-Any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies

-Juno

-Little Miss Sunshine

And maybe have something every once in a while where you go out to theatres to see something?
