The Amazing Spider-Man

If I was in charge of the Spider-Man reboot, I would base it on Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane. No joke.

Much as I like that series, it isn't quite what's required of a modern superhero film, especially a major one like Spider-man. In that it deliberately removes all the action.

Relationship-wise I agree though.

The Globe and Mail visited the home of pro hockey player Mike Comrie, who is married to actress-pop star Hilary Duff. During their interview with the athlete, the paper noticed that "a script marked Spiderman sits on the table, with lines for a character simply called "girl" highlighted in yellow (rumours swirl about who Spidey's love interest will be in the series' next installment.)"

No word yet, though, on who exactly Spidey's love interest will be in the reboot. Mary Jane Watson isn't expected to be back, but who knows? Other possibilities include Gwen Stacy (whom Duff most closely resembles), Betty Brant or Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. the Black Cat. Or maybe she'll play the younger, hotter Aunt May.

I never thought of her, but she would make a great Black Cat since she was a gymnast. If you've seen War Inc, then you also know how hot she can be.

Emma Stone is the latest name to be added to the short list for the female lead in Marc Webb's 3D reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, according to Variety.

Stone's performance in Sony's current release of Easy A helped the film rake in more than double its original production budget in just the first weekend. The article suggests that the actress may be up for both Spider-Man and the 21 Jump Street adaptation.

Also added to the previous list of candidates is Alice in Wonderland's Mia Wasikowska, joining Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest), Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy), Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming remake of Fright Night), Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice, I Am Number Four) and Emma Roberts (Hotel for Dogs, Valentine's Day).

Interestingly, Entertainment Weekly reports that both Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy will appear in the film, something that is not confirmed at this point.

I'm a big Emma Stone fan so this is good news. Not so good news is both MJ and Gwen being in this.

Sources confirm Deadline Hollywood‘s report this morning that Emma Stone will receive the coveted offer for the role of Mary Jane Watson in Sony’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. She will be taking on the role as Spidey’s love interest that Kirsten Dunst has played in three movies.

I find it interesting that both times they went with quirky cute for MJ instead of supermodel hot, which is what she is in the comic.

I think that based on the fact that this is supposed to be set in high-school you want a slightly more realistic class of girl, although I certainly think that Emma Stone is hot based on what I've seen. She's just not been shot in a Michael Bay-pornographic style. It's certainly not unreasonable that come later movies she can be something like the actress/model that MJ is in the comics.
