“Journeyman” mastermind Kevin Falls is reportedly hours from forwarding to FX executives his pilot script for “Powers,” based on the funnybook by Brian Bendis, sources tell Ain't It Cool.

If FX greenlights the Sony pilot, Michael Dinner (“Karen Sisco,” “Kidnapped”) is reportedly set to direct.

The ongoing comic, launched in 2000, follows police department homicide detectives who specialize in cases connected to people with superpowers.

FX has greenlit the pilot for Powers, an adaptation of the long-running comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

The announcement was made tonight on Twitter by John Soldberg, the cable network’s senior vice president of public relations, who revealed the pilot will be directed by executive producer Michael Dinner (Justified, Sons of Anarchy). The script is by Charles “Chic” Eglee, former executive producer of The Walking Dead and veteran of such television series as Murder One, The Shield and Dexter.

“Powers pilot was just greenlit by FX!” Bendis responded on Twitter. “It’s official! Your window of reading Powers while it was still cool is running out.”

Debuting in 2000 from Image Comics, Powers follows the lives of Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, homicide detectives who investigate cases involving “powers” (people with superhuman abilities) in a world where superheroes and supervillains are common. The series continued at Image until 2004, when it moved under Marvel’s Icon banner.

Although Powers had been optioned for film by Sony as early as 2001, Bendis revealed in February 2009 that a TV adaptation was in active development at FX, home to such dramas as The Shield, Rescue Me, Sons of Anarchy and now Justified.

The series is a co-production of Sony and FX Productions.

I'm thinking casting an unknown might be best, but here are my best bets from people currently working consistently in Hollywood:

Alex O'Loughlin - He's buff, he is convincing working as a cop and he's shown he can be funny at times on "Hawaii Five-O." Dye and grow his hair out a bit and I think he'd be great.

Karl Urban - He's a versatile actor who's well-versed in action. The problem would be I don't know if he can play the deadpan humor and I don't know if he really feels like a "superhero" kind of guy.

Considered people like Ray Stevenson (too old), Brandon Routh (too goofy), Chris Hemsworth (too young) and Wentworth Miller (too strange-looking), but it's a tough role to cast.

Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler — who turned down a slew of offers for broadcast pilots this season — is now being courted for FX’s drama pilot Powers.

Based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the project is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are relatively common. It centers on two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, in a homicide department that specializes in cases involving “powers.” (FX confirmed it was moving forward with the project at its annual upfront presentation on Tuesday.)

Chandler will make a decision about Powers after he reads a new version of the script incorporating his notes. If Chandler signs on, it would mark a reunion of sorts with his Friday Night Lights wife Connie Britton. The actress recently signed on to star in her own FX pilot, the Ryan Murphy-Brad Falchuk-produced American Horror Story.

Charles S. Dutton has been cast in FX's drama pilot Powers.

The actor, best known for playing the title character in Fox's 1990s dramedy Roc, will play Captain Cross, the head of a homicide police department where detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim investigate crimes involving those with superpowers.

Powers, based on the long-running Image Comics series by Brian Michael Bendis (Marvel's Avengers, X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man), hails from Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions. Charles H. Eglee (The Waking Dead) is adapting the comic with Michael Dinner directing the pilot.

Lucy Punch has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming FX series "Powers", Deadline reports. Punch will play the part of Detective Deena Pilgrim who, along with her partner, Detective Christian Walker, investigates superhero-related homicides.

The news was immediately confirmed by Brian Michael Bendis, co-creator of the "Powers" comic book series with artist Michael Avon Oeming.

"How's that for some news!" he wrote on his Twitter account, clearly pleased with the final decision.

Punch is best known for recent appearances in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Dinner for Schmucks and Take Me Home Tonight. She will also appear in this week's Bad Teacher opposite Cameron Diaz.

The part of Walker remains unannounced for the time being, but expect that to change soon as the pilot is gearing up to shoot in Chicago this summer.

"Powers" launched as a comic book series in 2004 from Image Comics and is currently published by Marvel's Icon imprint.

Her name is Lucy Punch. Of course she's going to be in a show about superheros.

Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are relatively common. It centers on two detectives, Christian Walker (Patric) and Deena Pilgrim (Lucy Punch), in a Homicide department that deals with cases involving "powers" (people with superpowers). Eglee, Dinner, David Engel and Bendis are executive producing for Sony Pictures TV and FX Prods. Filming is slated for mid-summer in Chicago. If Powers goes to series, it will mark Patric's first regular series gig. Last year, he co-starred in the HBO comedy pilot Tilda.
