JackFetch
Damn, no suspense. Tom Hanks just walked out and told the winner.
Venneh
Okay, I'm happy now. So, so happy it's not Avatar. And I may actually need to find this now. Also, this is the biggest fuck you you can give to the ex. And the Academy's supporting you in that whole thing! I approve!
KnightWing
Hmm. Perhaps there is hope for this world after all.
JackFetch
I like the two hosts because they can riff off each other. They just need to put them out there more than once an hour. I do find it strange that both Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur were left off the memorial.
Molly
There is still room for good old fashioned film making in the world. I can sleep tonight, and I won't be bathing in James Cameron's Blood. Shame Basterds didn't win more, but overall, I'm pleased with the results.
dc20willsave
Overall thoughts about the night: A desire for Avatar to lose and the hosts kept the night going. There were no big surprises in the evening though. The people who you thought would win won. I agree that the two host format is awesome. I kinda want to see Tina Fey as one of the hosts next year with Baldwin or Martin. That would be so many levels of awesome. Still, good night and here's to hoping next years has some movies that really shine.

Derrick
How do you top Oprah telling the world how you deserve an Oscar? What the hell was Sean Penn babbling about? He looked to me like he was doing a little tastin' backstage
Venneh
Also, you know what we should do next year for this? uStream.
slothian
Adham & I have just finished recording and I see that James Cameron has failed to win Best Director and Best Picture. It's all been worth it.
Venneh
Also, because I can't believe I forgot this earlier in the evening: THE DUDE ABIDES.

Chops
can't believe The Hurt Locker won so much, it's such a horrible movie. I guess I'm to close to the source material
Derrick
I'm trying to figure out where the notion that James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow were such bitter rivals struggling for Best Picture and Best Director came from. They've remained friends after their divorce. Cameron produced a couple of her films after the divorce. He screened AVATAR a number of times for her during post-production, asking for her input and she asked him for advice while she was filming THE HURT LOCKER. Stavros
Its an easy narrative to impose because they are both name directors in the same genre, but he's the man whose made the big money films that are universally known and she's made quality but lesser known films. The fact that they were married is what ties it all together, its really the first time that a big award has had a man vs woman as top contenders since the genders are split in acting. Its percieved hollywood 'Male' dominance vs independant outsider and crucially in this case, 'female' worthiness. The fact that she's making a very male film only adds to that, she's not falling back on gender types, she's playing 'them' at their own game. It might not be honest reporting to perpetuate this narrative but it does add interest.
