Missy
I hope this is the end for both Judi Dench and Daniel Craig. The way I see it, Bond should die protecting M and the world from whatever the villain is doing. Then, to honor his service, and as her last act as M, M creates a branch of MI6 that trains spies to carry on the name / legacy of James Bond. Not only would it serve as an awesome cliffhanger into Bond 24, it would explain how a well-known spy is never (or rarely) recognized and why he seemingly never ages. Sir, you are expecting too much from Purvis and Wade.

Out of curiosity Mike, did you ever watch the 1967 version of Casino Royale? I know FYEO and BITD both called it a mess, but that deals with that idea (albeit to excess). I don't really care that the series gets rebooted every so often - it's not the same deal as an ongoing TV series which does require a degree of continuity. And after QOS deviated from the formula as much as it did, I don't mind the idea of watching a formulaic Bond film starring Craig. Not to dismiss the idea, especially as the hard reboot would allow for that scenario pretty well, but I don't think I want a 3 film story arc for the franchise. Either that, or I want Craig to stick around for more than 3 films - I'm not sure.
Missy
Maybe I am expecting too much, but I feel it would be an interesting twist on the franchise. I mean, if you're going to reboot it, as they have, go all the way. Get gutsy. Kill the star to breed a new one. And no, I'veI never seen the 1967 Casino Royale. Missy
Pertaining to my post about M making Bond a title for future spies, I would mark out so hard if, after Daniel Craig's Bond has died, she said to an aide, "James Bond will return," then the credits rolled with the iconic theme. dc20willsave
It's Bleeding Cool so grain of salt and all but Daniel Craig has reportedly been offered 5 more films.
Missy
It's taken them six years to make three James Bond films, so there's no way Craig, who's 43 years old, will last for another five movies. None.
dc20willsave
I agree, especially since he's contracted for the other two Girl movies which are Fincher wants to shoot back to back. Then again, there's nothing saying a man who can legitimately be called a Shakespearian actor since he originated the role of Dogberry can't play Bond. Missy
If they do produce eight movies with Daniel Craig, we'll be saying, "Daniel Craig in [insert eighth movie title here] was older than Roger Moore in A View to a Kill." Missy
I wonder if this "five more films" story is really "five films total," meaning he's been signed for two more.
Aaron Robinson
If it's true they're probably just covering themselves. I'm sure deals like this go down all the time.
slothian
What Aaron said. If the films got back on track to being every 2-3 years and production decides upon back-to-back film shooting, conceivably Craig could have done another 4 films by the time he's 50. I reckon he'll give up the reins before he hits his fifties, just because is it's such a physically demanding role (nowadays), but as far as the studio's concerned, it's better for them to get their focal star locked down for as many as possible. Stavros
Plus I have no problem imagining that Craig's Bond will acknowledge the ageing process more than the others. By the end he will be more broken down, relying on making cut-throat decisions instead of mad chases. A 50 year old Craig who's been Bond for years would definitely have an Eastwood in Unforgiven vibe to him.

KnightWing
He seems to be showing his age a bit. I wonder how much longer he'll be Bond?

slothian
He seems to be showing his age a bit. I wonder how much longer he'll be Bond? Five words: A View To A Kill. Indeed, I wouldn't be freaking out about a stubbled Craig in a darkly lit image.
KnightWing
When I said "a bit," I seriously meant "a bit." As in "he looks a slight bit older than he did in the last one." And I wasn't talking about the stubble; I meant the slightly grayer facial hair and the more distinct facial lines. Not saying he's Roger Moore old. Just wondering how many more films he'll do before he retires from the role.

Stavros
That's a fairly dark aggressive looking trailer for a Bond film. Cool.
