James D.
Michael Jai White as Jax = instant ticket buy for me I have no idea what to make of this. It could be a video game trailer for all I know. I hope it isn't some kind of fake.
Delete
If it was fake actual actors wouldn't be in it. Maybe it is for E3 or something.
Dread
The Ballad of GI Joe would disagree...
James D.
All I know is, a new take on the mythos would be awesome. This looks like a horror/suspense movie, which would work really well, in my opinion.

SuaveStar
I think its for a new game. Either way, it was fucking awesome.

Delete
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=66904 Speculation has run rampant today with the debut of a short "Mortal Kombat" film (subtitled "Rebirth") that made its way anonymously to YouTube. Now, Latino Review reports that the film is, as many theorized, a test for a potential R-rated film reboot of the video game franchise. The short is directed by Kevin Tancharoen, the director of last year's Fame, and features a cast that includes name actors like Michael Jai White (Jax), Jeri Ryan (Sonya Blade), Matt Mullins (Johnny Cage), Lateef Crowder (Baraka) and Ian Anthony Dale (Scorpion) with fight choreography by Larnell Stovall. Though there is no guarantee that these actors will play the characters in a feature film version or even that a feature film will actually happen, the short is already a huge success online, with the word "Kombat" already a trending topic on Twitter. Dread
It's in White's MO. He filmed a Black Dynamite trailer before getting the go-ahead. He's probably on as producer. There's probably some sort of first bite option on the other actors. God, Jeri Ryan is hot.
MaxPower
Short clip looks really good, whether it would translate in to a full length feature film is another story. But am happy to be cautiously optimistic about this.
KnightWing
See now, I would think that this wold be a live-action promo for a new MK game, like what Microsoft's doing for each Halo game. And I gotta say, I've never really understood the MK fandom before (I kinda missed the peak of its popularity), but that short film was really, really cool. JackFetch
From that first Kotaku link: Update: Actress Jeri Ryan, the actress portraying Sonya Blade in the video, has confirmed via Twitter that this is a short film created by a director to sell Warner Bros. on his Mortal Kombat pitch. "It's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film," Ryan says on her Twitter page, adding " I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was." Thanks to Zimnick for pointing us towards Jeri's updates! This is creating huge buzz, and WB are morons if they don't pick it up right now. James D.
Well, that's cool. Jack's right, though. WB needs to jump all over this, like, yesterday.
Donomark
Michael Jai White in ANYTHING is awesome, but this looks to be pretty good. Still need Cary Tagawa's Shang Tsung tho. "YOU SOUL IS MINE!!!"
SuaveStar
The actual game trailer.

James D.
Great. Same shitty dial-a-combo engine. Maybe so, but I'll at least rent it.
Guest
We've been promised a return to the greatness of MKII for the past four or five games, it seems. Every game since Deception has been total shit. They had years to change the engine, and clearly didn't learn a thing. I'm Youtubing some Fatalities when it comes out. That's about it. Way more excited about the movie.
NightAngle04
Very cool idea, but I'm not hopeful that version will see theaters.
Venneh
Hey, remember this? It's getting a ten episode web series. And Michael Jai White is gonna be Jax.

MaxPower
How much budget would a web series get? That said, WB could actually lead the way with this thing, as the future will be all about content, more so than networks, websites, tablets, etc.
MaxPower
The director of the series has images up online of some behind the scenes stuff. Moby Picture
SuaveStar
Seeing as the show is called "Mortal Kombat: Legacy" can the title of the thread be changed to that.
