"The Mist" offended me on a personal level because of the negative way it cast Christianity. Pure propaganda. Ruined the movie for me. I remember being offended with "The Invention of Lying." All the women in my life (mother, sister, aunts, girlfriend,) are unapologetic M. Night Shyamalan fans and they all hate "The Happening." Of course it is going to be bad if you only transfix on the twist. Then you would miss the whole point of it being a subversion of American Ideals. I saw it went against the ideas that everyone was happy and innocent in decades past (I am even including the Era of Good Feelings). By showing how easily the masses could be swayed and distorted with fear to fit one persons idea of the American Dream. Remember, this came out during the war on terror, which only proliferated more terror around the world. I also saw the love triangle between Bryce, Adrien and Joaquin (I will get to the lack of their names) was fascinating. How often do you see a triangle where the most able bodied is the odd one out? In most movies, especially with a love story, everyone has to be physical perfection. If there is someone with a disability they have to overcompensate in one way or another. http://youtu.be/X6WHBO_Qc-Q Even in real life I am encouraged not to be with or marry someone with any kind of disability because then it is implied that I will live a difficult life having to take care of my mate and progeny. However Bryce had to be the one to step out and save the able bodied man she loved. Adrien could have easily been the Joker but you feel pity for his character. I almost saw a look of relief on his character when he dies. Also this movie was a good example of the Worf-Sapir Hypothesis in action. Everyone addressed everyone as a collective, never as an individual. They never gave a name to the wolf creatures, making them indestructible. First off, the movie that demanded that a previous film you covered had to change it's name, Avatar. Between CGI that wasn't designed for 2D viewing, a mind-numbing bloated plot, dialogue written by a 3rd grader, and some of terrible acting. All this and a Captain Planet villain! Oh, and furry porn! Add some Tarantino-esque uber-violence with none of Tarantino's contextualization of it, along with Keystone Cop-esque bad law enforcement organization portrayals for this...thing. Saw it premiere at a film festival in 2013. It was the first year of a major North East based festival in it's permanent new home, which was held a small town's historic and restored art house theater. Well, this gore porn attempt at dark humor was so bad a good portion of the audience left the theater in the middle of it. The only way I figure the festival was allowed to continue into 2014 in the same town was I think the director of the festival, also the producer/director/writer of this "film" bought a majority share of the theater itself! See Sam Jackson dressed as a Nazi. Barb Wire, another comic book movie, stars Pam Anderson, a woman who depends on her "talent" to act. It's also a rip-off of Casablanca. Oz is to Will as Alice is to James/Damien but this, this is pure crap. Probably a metric ton of Eric Roberts and Ben Kigsley Paychecks with a plot that's nonsensical at the best of times and characters that show up for no good reason. dc20willsave Posted January 7, 2015 Report Share Posted January 7, 2015 I realize, while many of the worst movies of all time have been covered on the show over the years, one of the best of the worst has yet to be covered, that being Mommie Dearest. True, it might be touchy since the film is technically about real people (in the same sense that a line drawing looks like a real person) but it is so over the top campy and badly acted that you kinda have to ignore it. The famous "No More Wire Hangers" scene not withstanding, it's worth pointing out two more wonderful scenes in the film that, thankfully, someone on YouTube saw right to feature. As someone who enjoyed the comics I hope whoever reviews it tears it to pieces. I also thought it was appropriate for the short review on Earth-2.net the show to come after the "Dick Tracy" review because I thought that movie was light years closer to the Spirit than the Spirit was. I nominated the movie based upon it being a soulless 90s blockbuster which doesn't fall afoul of the "no comedies" rule. And Mommie Dearest is a good shout, Will. Talk about the exact point where a career ended - from Bonnie & Clyde, Chinatown and Network, to Supergirl and Dunston Checks In. Poor Faye Dunaway.
