SuaveStar
So, who wants to start speculating on the obvious things: Will Favreau be directing again? Will it be made in 3-D?
Missy
My guess, it will be in 3D, but I'm not sure Jon Favreau will return. He and Marvel have had a lot of ups and downs. Then again, by not directing The Avengers, he's free to direct Iron Man 3 for release the next year.
JackFetch
It will take place after The Avengers, so I'd guess there will be other heroes in it. Also, I'd like to see the aftermath of whatever happens in The Avengers to show up in this movie. For example it can start out with them rebuilding the city from an attack in the other movie. KnightWing
I hope the other heroes stay out of it. Unless they make it into an Iron Man/Thor buddy cop film.
Stavros
If it doesn't happen in Avengers, they should make Iron Man vs Hulk.

Koete
I'm not sure how I feel about this news. I loved the first Iron Man, but found the second to be a mess. I don't know how much of that mess I can attribute to Marvel Studios interference and how much I can attribute to Favreau.

I agree 2 was a mess, but it wasn't till the second viewing that I realised how the films whole flow just felt weird, and it felt like a crappy set up to an Avengers film, more than an Iron Man movie. KnightWing
According to a new interview, he simply left because he wanted to do Magic Kingdom instead.
Missy
Shane Black is very close to signing on as director.
Stavros
Can only be a good thing. He's worked with RDJ before on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang so I don't think the directorial approval that's in his contract will be an issue.

KnightWing
I can buy it. After doing nonstop hard work on Iron Man over the last several years, he wanted to change it up and do a nice family film. He's allowed to do that. I mean, there were the rumors that they lowballed him before he agreed to come back for Iron Man 2, but that's the only time I've ever heard of them doing that. How many other sequels have Marvel produced. It might just be their practice. If the film succeeds, then they say it's their character, and low ball the director. If it fails, they'll blame the director for ruining their character.
JackFetch
Marvel does it with actors also. They are very cheap. Remember how they started out offering Micky Rourke only $250,000 right after he won the Golden Globe?
KnightWing
I've read stuff saying that Disney is practically forcing Marvel to actually have a big budget for The Avengers. Apparently, Marvel's still stuck in the mentality that they're only one or two flops away from bankruptcy.
MaxPower
Haha that's interesting and good on Disney for being happy to spend big.
SuaveStar
Despite his announcement to step down from directing duties on Iron Man 3, Jon Favreau is not walking away from the franchise entirely. During a Q&A at the Hero Complex Film Festival, Favreau expressed his support for the Iron Man films, and hinted that he would return to Iron Man 3 in the role of Happy Hogan. The first two films enjoyed enormous box office success, but Favreau ultimately decided that he wouldn't direct the third affair, which is planned for a 2013 release. It was revealed that the director’s torch would be passed on to Shane Black, writer of Lethal Weapon and director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. However, fans of Iron Man and Iron Man 2 needn’t be concerned as there will be room for collaboration. Robert Downey Jr mentioned he and Favreau had approached Black for advice on the Iron Man films, and that Black is likely to ask the same of his predecessor. For now though Favreau has his hands full with the summer release of Cowboys and Aliens, starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.
