JackFetch
Though the armored hero will make his presence known on the big screen next summer as part of the superhero ensemble, The Avengers, Marvel Studios is already prepping Tony Stark's next solo adventure with Iron Man 3. While the first two Iron Man films shot primarily in Los Angeles, Latino Review reports that the third outting is eyeing production in Wilmington, North Carolina. If all goes according to their reports, Iron Man 3 will take over 10 sound stages at the city's Screen Gems Studios with production targeted to begin next June. Little is known about the plot of the film, but Shane Black will take the director's seat (replacing the first two films' Jon Favreau) and will lend his writing talents to the script by Drew Pearce. At this time, Robert Downey Jr. is the only confirmed cast member, though it's highly likely that Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle will be returning as well. http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/168454-iron-man-3-eyes-north-carolina-shoot- Marvel has an assembly line of movies being made. I wonder how far out they have planned out?
dc20willsave
Don Cheadle has said that shooting will begin in May. I'd assume it will start late May so Robert Downey has time to make the Press run for Avengers.
Dread
Shane Black is the ONLY thing bringing me back to the Iron Man series after 2. The guy's a fucking genius.
Koete
Ben Kingsley is in final talks to play the villain.
JackFetch
It'll be Iron Man vs guy in a Iron Man suit. That's all the first two were. It's almost Transformers at this point.
Stavros
Kingsley could be the Mandarin, he's an ethnic chameleon.
dc20willsave
The film is being co-produced in China. So, for those of you betting on Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, there's another piece of ammo.
JackFetch
Jessica Chastain is the latest talent said to be up for a role in the soon-to-shoot Iron Man 3, Deadline reports. The Tree of Life actress would play a scientist, said to be the intellectual equal of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. Although it's not confirmed, it's possible that the role is that of Dr. Maya Hansen, a character responsible for the "Extremis" nanotechnology that is said to be a key part of the sequel's focus. The news comes just days after it was announced that Guy Pearce is up for the part of Dr. Aldrich Killian, a character from the popular Warren Ellis storyline. Written and directed by Shane Black (and co-written by Drew Pearce), Iron Man 3 also stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Ben Kingsley and is set for release on May 3, 2013. http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/170349-jessica-chastain-up-for-iron-man-
JackFetch
NeonPunch (via Twitch) is reporting that Andy Lau is in negotiations to play an old friend of Tony Stark in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3. The site says the friend "represents China’s technology sector – and will use China’s armored heroes to HELP Iron Man defeat “The Mandarin” who is seen as a terrorist against both the US and China." He would be joining a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce. Shane Black will direct the third installment, scheduled to be released on May 3, 2013. http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/170357-andy-lau-joining-iron-man-
JackFetch
James Badge Dale (The Grey, Shame) has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3, reports Variety. The trade says: "Dale will play Eric Savin. In the Marvel comicbooks, he's a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army put in charge of Project: Ultra. After stepping on a land mine, cybernetic surgery is performed on him and he's resurrected as the cyborg Coldblood." The third installment starts filming this month in North Carolina and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley and Rebecca Hall. Shane Black will direct a script he co-wrote with Drew Pearce. Iron Man 3 will hit theaters on May 3, 2013. http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/170645-james-badge-dale-joins-iron-man-3-cast
Dread
Paul Gulacy's Coldblood, huh? http://i.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel/universe3zx/images/thumb/5/5d/Coldblood_Head.jpg/406px-Coldblood_Head.jpg Color me interested. Really, the film had me at Shane Black.
JackFetch
Iron Man sure has a lot of B list characters to choose from.
Molly
It's not another guy in a suit. This pleases me. I'd really love to see Zeke Stane in an Iron Man film, but I can wait.
Venneh
Okay, so, right here is where they need to cut off the villains. I don't know Coldblood so well, but with what I know of the Mandarin, that could work extremely well. Just don't add a third villain; then we'll be facing some of IM2's issues all over again. Dread
Coldblood's a hero who fights the corrupt corporation that made him. I can see that working really well. And he isn't an Iron Man character either. In fact, if memory serves, he was introduced out of Marvel continuity.
JackFetch
One of the quotes up there said he would be teaming with other people to fight Mandarin. Coldblood will be one of those guys. This also tells us that the girl scientist who is Tony's intellectual sequel will most likely be Gina Dyson.
JackFetch
Ashley Hamilton is in talks to play one of the villains in "Iron Man 3," eyeing the small part of government cyborg Firepower. In the Marvel comicbooks, the character is the pilot of an experimental armored suit under the secret mission dubbed Project: Firepower. He eventually uses the suit to battle Iron Man. Ashley is a personal friend of Robert Downey Jr., though the two have never worked together before. Marvel had no comment on the casting. Thesp, the son of George Hamilton, stepson of Rod Stewart and himself a singer-songwriter, competed on the ninth season of "Dancing with the Stars" before becoming a correspondent on "Extra." "Iron Man 3" starts production this month under the helm of Shane Black, who also co-wrote the script with Drew Pearce. Robert Downey Jr. returns as billionaire Tony Stark, while Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale and Rebecca Hall also star. Plot will borrow elements from Warren Ellis' six-issue "Iron Man: Extremis," which also influenced the first "Iron Man" installment, and focuses on the spread of a virus through nanotechnology. Disney has skedded "Iron Man 3" for release on May 3, 2013. Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Louis D'Esposito, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard and Dan Mintz will exec produce "Iron Man 3," with Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige producing. http://www.variety.c...News|LatestNews Yay, another guy in a suit to fight
dc20willsave
Is it any different that pretty much, with the exception of the first and Returns that every Superman Movie has featured Superman fighting an evil Kryptonian?
Stavros
It's a continuation of Iron Man's story both in the films and the books, the fact that he has this tech and everyone else wants to steal or replicate it. Bear in mind that this is a small villain, probably one Iron Man defeats at the start of the film to show that he's still top dog with machinery. With Guy Pearce as Killian we're certain to see the big fights going in a more diverse direction, just read Extremis by Warren Ellis to get a taste. KnightWing
Yeah, if they go more with the idea of Extremis as a nanotech virus, then Firepower's suit might be more along the lines of an organic-looking thing instead of another Iron Man suit.
Stavros
That's kinda missing the point of what I said. Use Firepower as a competing tech guy who Stark beats, and then have the Extremis be something completely different that he's not expecting.
JackFetch
I don't think they are doing Extremis as a virus. This is my (probably wrong) opinion on what the third movie will be: Tony's Iron Man tech gets stolen and different countries make their own version of the armor. One of these goes rogue, and Tony realizes he needs to upgrade his suit so that only he can use it so he makes the next version from nanobots that are coded to his DNA.
Stavros
But they cast Guy Pierce as Killian, so clearly Extremis is being developed by him first. I think it's going to be a nanotech DNA resequencer just like in the original story. No idea what Ben Kingsley will be doing though.
dc20willsave
It does kinda feel like another case of doing too much in a sequel.
Stavros
Lot of villains isn't always a negative, to bring up Batman Begins maybe Firepower is in the Zsasz role, with Kingsley and Pierce in the Ra's/Scarecrow position. As long as the story is more focussed than Iron Man 2 it'll be fine.
