Ian Wilson and Dave Probert tackle two more episodes of Blake's 7. In "Bounty," Blake tries to persuade an exiled President to return to his people, and the Liberator is boarded by flamboyantly dressed bounty hunters. In "Deliverance," the crew goes to the aid of a crashed ship, and Avon finds himself worshipped as Lord by a very impressionable woman. Dave rants about appropriate attire for space pirates, and Ian detects a strong similarity between one episode and a recent Doctor Who story. Plus, could gun-kata improve the show? How is Blake's 7 like Touch the Truck? And which supporting character's name becomes a slang term for genitals? [ 2:15:18 || 61.9 MB ]

Hi Ian and Dave

Thanks for your great Blake's 7 podcast.

I appear to be a unique listener in that I am an American who not only has seen the series, but has all the episodes on DVD.

It has been a good ten years since I last watched the show and am having a blast watching them again as you review them.

Looking forward to hearing the big season one wrap up next time.

Keep up the great work.

Hi there Frando - thank you for posting and welcome to the forums! I'm not sure if Dave will let me count this as an email if it isn't in the shakeandblake@earth-2.net inbox, but if you don't want to copy & paste this into an email, I'm sure it'll be alright!

I am interested to hear that you have all the DVDs! Are they actually Region 1, or are you able to read DVDs from other regions? And if they are Region 1, is the distribution company listed because it would be great if we could find out whether they're planning on re-releasing the show on DVD.

Good to have you aboard!

Thanks for the nice reply Ian.

i am a bit (I suspect) older than your average listener. I am 58 and have been in comic and sci fi fandom since the seventies.

I live in Denver Colorado. One of my fondest memories is a Doctor Who Convention I attended here in Denver way back in 1982 where Jon Pertwee and Liz Sladen (God rest their souls) were the guests of honor.

The convention was a marathon and the two of them were almost required to be on stage the whole of it. They managed to remain friendly and approachable through it all.

The succcess that Doctor Who had on the local Public broadcast station at that time was the reason the same station decided to broadcast Blake's 7.

I somehow never picked up on Blake's 7 being shown till a good friend of mine mentioned it to me. By the time i actually got to see the show, the station was in fact showing the last two episodes of season 4!

Luckily for me, the response to the show was so favorable the station reran the series again from the beginning about 6 weeks later and I thus had a chance to watch the whole thing.

Blake's 7 has always been one of my all time favorite series as it is unique in that it is really the only science fiction series I can remember that focused on the characters and how they related to each other as the primary focus.

The fact the series was character driven made up for the often bad (even by Doctor Who standards) special effects.

Opps I am rambling on here LOL..regarding the DVDS i have, alas they are a set i bought on ebay and are a Canadian printing which i am not sure is still available, as you noted the series has never been released on DVD on the US.

warmest regards,

Frando

I'm happy to accept this as earth 2 feedback. Once we start getting too serious about it the feedback war would stop being fun. Besides I think Mr Wilson is going to need all the help he can get for the next episdode ;-)

That's a rallying call, people!! You have until this upcoming Monday to send in your emails (to the RIGHT address!!)

I have been doing a bit of a rewatch and relisten to the podcast. I had a couple thoughts on Bounty:

When escaping from the locked room, Blake threw his exploding necklace at the Amargen and it exploded... but did it explode because he threw it, or because the Amargen was pointing the microwave transmitter at him, and pushing the button? If that was what he was doing then I would assume all the other exploding necklaces would have exploded too (and that would have been messy).

Everyone but Blake seem to be pretty clueless in thinking Jenna had betrayed them. When she checks on the crew who have been locked up, they are all sitting with arms behind them, pretending to still be handcuffed. Jenna walks over by the pile of handcuffs, looks down, audibly nudges them with her foot and then says she is glad to see they are all behaving themselves.
