With Transformers: Dark of the Moon reaching the fourth spot on the all-time worldwide box office list with $1.119 billion earned, a fourth movie was to be expected.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Hasbro President and CEO Brian Goldner, speaking in the company's third-quarter earnings conference call, said that the company is in "active discussions" with Paramount Pictures, director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg about a potential fourth "Transformers" movie. Goldner said he hopes to have news to share in the next quarter.

He also said that Hasbro continues to develop other projects based on its brands. "We continue to actively develop a number of additional Hasbro films with great partners and writers, including Micronauts, Ouija, Candyland, Risk, Stretch Armstrong, Clue and Monopoly," he said.

Goldner added that the company will continue to work with studio partners and won't start making its own films like Marvel has done.

Following this morning's report that says a third sequel to 2007's Transformers is in "active discussions", comes word, via Variety that the plan may actually be to shoot a fourth and a fifth film back to back. The same article also states that Shia LaBeouf is unlikely to return and that the franchise may instead place Jason Statham in a leading role, though no official negotiations have begun.

Michael Bay, meanwhile, is said to be interested in returning to direct but, again, nothing is official at this time. No matter what, Bay is likely to complete his next, Pain & Gain, before production on another Transformers would begin, potentially as early as late 2012.

Back when Bay said he was done with them. I knew he was full of it.

"The movie is going to continue four years from the attack on Chicago," says Bay, "which was in the last movie. It's going to have the same lineage, but it's going in a full new direction. It actually feels very natural how it's going in that direction... We're doing a lot of things that are really going to make it fresh and feel new."

The lovely Sophia Myles will appear in Mister Bay's new TRASNFORMERS movie alongside the already announced Kelsey Grammer and Mark Wahlberg.

While the studio is keeping her role under wraps, an individual familiar with the script has told TheWrap that Myles will play a scientist.

Geeks may best remember Myles for her roles in a few UNDERWORLD movies, and Howard McCain's hugely under-appreciated OUTLANDER. She also played 'Reinette' in a Steven Moffat-scripted, Tennant-era DOCTOR WHO episode called The Girl in the Fireplace - a role which, rumors suggest, she may someday revisit.

Optimus Prime rides a robot dinosaur. That is all you need know.

See, that's just wank bait for fans/the easily amused. Maybe if a robot dinosaur was flying a fighter jet but no there is no reddeming value to that trailer other than realizing that Mark Wahlberg really wanted a Ben Kingsley paycheck. I see this and I can't help but crack up at how terrible the CGI looks.
