2012-2013 Television Season

I didn't say it looked like Lost, I said it was trying to be Lost. It's a show that centers on a mystery that will be hinted at least the end of the first season if not longer. You'll have at least one character that hints at stuff but you won't get anything resembling a firm answer until the midway point. Add to that a mixture of nonsense speak that anyone who paid attention in High School science can tell you is bullshit, at least one annoying character that will somehow survive the duration of the show despite no one liking them, and enemies with a leader who has shadowy motives. Every season there are at least one if not more shows that try to be the new Lost (The Event, Heroes, V, FlashForward, Terra Nova, The River) and thus far, few have lasted that long, let alone at a level of quality. I don't see Revolution being the show that finally gets the title of being more than a Lost clone.

Heroes wasn't an Lost clone. I think you are being too hard on Revolution, Could it be a Lost clone? Sure, but telling me by watching the trailer that its trying to be Lost when you have no idea what the show will be is a bit silly. Lets give it a chance to fail instead of just saying "Lost Clone, forget it!".

Every drama that has a question that takes forever to be answered is trying to ride Lost's coattails, and Heroes definitely fit into that category. I don't think people want another Lost right now, and that's why everyone of them has failed so far.

Really? So the Mentalist is riding Lost's coattails?

Not exactly the same thing. The Mentalist is a crime-drama with mainly stand-alone episodes with the occasional episode that ties into an over-arching mystery. Lost and every show that tries to be Lost has thus far been a serialized show with a large cast with an event driving the whole plot. Where Lost succeeded is that, yes, there's mystery in the first episode but, at least for the first few seasons, the show was mainly character driven. Heroes mostly succeeded except after the first season they got lost and instead found themselves trying to create an event that would keep people's attention instead of focusing on the characters first. Where most of these shows have failed is that they make a conscious decision to make it all about the event first and the characters second. Will Revolution be the show learn from it's predecessor's mistakes? Maybe, who knows? Like I said before, my only complaint is that the premise makes the part of my head that processes scientific thought hurt so very badly.

You say harsh, I say airplanes would not just fall like Wily Coyote if they lost power to their engines. Plants do not grow that fast. If they did, the buildings would probably degrade that quickly. Factor in that every nuclear power plant would go into meltdown, and the left side of my brain wants to cry. It rarely gets used but now it wants to go and hide in the corner. Oh well, I should just be happy that in case of apocalypse, at least we all have beautiful hair and perfect machine-made clothes fifteen years after the fact.

Torchwood had 3 full order seasons (admittedly, in the British sense), and then cut down their 4th season heavily.

The resulting Torchwood: Children of Earth was by far the show's finest moment.

They had two seasons and cut down the third you mean.

Oh yeah! Yes, that.

Well, they say it takes a village to raise a child…and in Polly’s case, this village is on fire. “MALIBU COUNTRY”

When Reba Gallagher (Reba) discovers that her husband, Bobby, (Jeffrey Nordling) a country music legend, has a cheatin’ heart, her world is turned upside down. Reba dreamt of becoming a country star herself, but put her career on hold to raise a family. Now she’s questioning all of that, big-time. With the ink on her divorce barely dry, Reba packs up her sharp-tongued mother, Lillie May (Lily Tomlin), her two kids and the U-Haul and heads for sunny California to begin a new chapter. Leaving Nashville in the rear view, they start over at their Malibu residence -- the last remaining asset they have. Reba gets to know her new open and loving neighbor Kim (Sara Rue) and her son, Sage, but also discovers that relocation to Southern California is going to be quite an adjustment for a traditional southern belle: the West Coast seems like the polar opposite of Music City, and Reba feels like an outsider. Still, with the support of her family she sets about finding her voice, jump-starting her music career with the help of her new music agent, Geoffrey (Jai Rodriguez), and embracing this chance to begin again.

“Malibu Country” stars country music superstar Reba (“Reba,” “Tremors”) as Reba, Sara Rue (“Rules of Engagement,” “Less Than Perfect”) as Kim, Justin Prentice as Cash, Juliette Angelo as June, Jai Rodriguez (“Bones,” “How I Met Your Mother,” one of the original hosts of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”) as Geoffrey and Lily Tomlin (“Eastbound and Down,” “Damages,” “Desperate Housewives,” “West Wing,” “Nine to Five,” “All of Me,” “Nashville”) as Lillie May.

“THE NEIGHBORS”

How well do you know your neighbors?

Meet the Weavers, Debbie (Jami Gertz) and Marty (Lenny Venito). Marty, in hopes of providing a better life for his wife and three kids, recently bought a home in Hidden Hills, a gated New Jersey townhome community with its own golf course. Hidden Hills is so exclusive that a house hasn’t come on the market in 10 years. But one finally did and the Weavers got it!

It’s clear from day one that the residents of Hidden Hills are a little different. For starters, their new neighbors all have pro-athlete names like Reggie Jackson (Tim Jo), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye), Dick Butkis (Ian Patrick) and Larry Bird (Simon Templeman). Over dinner, Marty and his family discover that their neighbors receive nourishment through their eyes by reading books, rather than eating. The Weavers soon learn that the entire community is comprised of aliens from Zabvron, where the men bear children and everyone cries green goo from their ears.

The Zabvronians have been stationed on Earth for the past 10 years, disguised as humans, awaiting instructions from home, and the Weavers are the first humans they’ve had the opportunity to know. As it turns out, the pressures of marriage and parenthood are not exclusive to planet Earth. Two worlds will collide with hilarious consequences as everyone discovers they can “totally relate” and learn a lot from each other.

“The Neighbors” stars Jami Gertz (“Entourage,” “Modern Family,” “Still Standing,” “Ally McBeal”) as Debbie Weaver, Lenny Venito (“Bored to Death,” “Men in Black III,” “Person of Interest,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) as Marty Weaver, Simon Templeman as Larry Bird, Toks Olagundoye as Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Clara Mamet as Amber Weaver, Tim Jo (“Glory Daze”) as Reggie Jackson, Ian Patrick (“Wanderlust”) as Dick Butkis, Max Charles (“The Three Stooges,” “The Amazing Spider-Man”) as Max Weaver, Isabella Cramp as Abby Weaver.

Unfortunately Jack’s past career efforts have been less than stellar, so everyone seems to be waiting for him to fail. It's on versus The New Girl and NBC's new comedy, Go On. I find this funny since Damon Wayans Jr. was in the pilot for The New Girl but had to drop out when Happy Endings, lo and behold, got a second season pick-up. I really like that they paired Happy Endings with Don't Trust the B. I really feal that they're a good match and I hope that it can benefit from having Dancing With the Stars as it's lead-in.

666 Park Avenue seems like it could have an interesting premise. I almost feel it should have been after Once then followed by Revenge considering the Supernatural elements but hey, whatever. Last Resort could work. The premise does sound a little limited. The main hurdle is overcoming that and not becoming Prison Break where once you complete the initial idea, you flounder for another three seasons. Also trying not to get crushed by being scheduled opposite of American Idol and Big Bang.

Clips for ABC's new shows.

I repeat my earlier assessments. The Neighbors looks like the shittiest piece of shit that ever shit. Last Resort has potential but they need to start thinking now for what they're going to do to keep the show from going stale fast. 666 Park Avenue looks like a good old fashioned guilty pleasure. Mistresses is trying too hard to fill the Desperate Housewives gap. Nashville is looking like Country Smash. Family Tools is being scheduled to be on Tuesdays mid-season. More likely, it's going to take The Neighbors place. It feels more in place with the ABC Wednesday night of Family Dysfunction.

Zero Hour looks like some kinda surprise. I mean, evil babies, Nazis, what's not to love?

Napoleon Dynamite is no more. Until FOX announced their 2012-2012 schedule yesterday, there were two shows left we were a bit uncertain about - Napoleon and Bob's Burgers. However, while Bob's Burgers is now set for the next season (not shocking, given they actually will still have thirteen unaired episodes from their full Season 2 order), Napoleon Dynamite was left off the schedule - and thus cancelled.
