  7. It has been a long time since I can remember a DC animated movie being hyped as much as Superman: Doomsday. It isn't often that a non-Disney direct-to-DVD animated movie is as advertised as this one has been. But it also isn't hard to see why DC put so much hype behind this movie. Bruce Timm produced it, they got Adam Baldwin, Anne Heche and James Marsters to play the three biggest roles in the film, and they went so far as to make it violent and crass enough to be rated PG-13 - a first for any animated Superman feature. Plus, look at the title - Superman: Doomsday. This is an animated movie that is based off of the best-selling graphic novel of all time. Why wouldn't DC and Warner Brothers want to hype it to the utmost? However, as is so often the case, the problem with over-hyping a movie is exactly what one would expect - it is immensely hard to live up to said hype. 8. Anyone who's listened to Earth-2.net: The Show or visited the Earth-2.net forums knows I'm not Brian Wood's biggest fan. Saying nothing of his writing, my problem with the man stems from the standoffish, dare I say arrogant attitude he's presented at comic book conventions. When a creator presents himself in an unfavorable light, I find it hard to separate his public persona from his craft. Instead of seeing his comics as being independent from him, I see the creator and the comic books he creates as one creature. Worse still, sometimes I see the creator before the comic. And that's the case whenever I see DMZ on the shelf: it isn't a comic book created by Brian Wood, it is Brian Wood. So all of that indy arrogance he oozed last I saw him on a panel (Wizard World Chicago 2006), I see dripping from DMZ. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/c/dc/vertigo/northlanders-01
  9. The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born was something of a big deal for Marvel. By landing the rights to an adaptation of what Stephen King calls his "magnum opus," the publisher had something that would attract fans that wouldn't normally give a comic book the light of day. They pulled out the big guns: writer Peter David would handle the script with aid from Robin Furth (the official Dark Tower historian), and fan-favorite artist Jae Lee was in charge of the visuals. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/c/marvel/mi...gunslinger-born
  10. Tim Glancy has a field day destroying the writing of Howard the Duck #3 and Omega: The Unknown #3, while drqshadow has mixed feelings about Avengers: The Initiative Annual #1, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #34 and Silver Surfer: In Thy Name #2. 13. Back in the day, DC could do little wrong when it came to publicizing their major characters through the medium of film. The Superman franchise is still held in high regard today, whereas the 90s Batman franchise grossed over $1.25 billion at the box office. Whilst those films were hitting, Marvel was releasing hilarious low-budget versions of The Punisher, Captain America and The Fantastic Four, following the big budget bomb that was Howard the Duck. But now Marvel's films are released thick and fast whilst DC release one or two a year. What happened? The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/columns/wilson_i/comic-reel-lief-04
  14. Though they both had colds, James and Mike managed to record their longest episode yet! What filled the time? Well, there's talk of censorship, the Marvel Animated Universe and why Batman will never be able to cure the Joker. Of course they also covered five episode of Batman: The Animated Series. First up is the irredeemable "The Terrible Trio," which is an episode that should never have been made. In "Harlequinade" Batman and Harley Quinn join forces to prevent the Joker from detonating an atomic bomb. The Clock King and Catwoman return in "Time Out of Joint" and "Catwalk" (respectively), whilst "Bane" sees the debut of the masked assassin Bane. Episode 12

In this episode of Dread Media, Desmond Reddick battles the stomach flu to get the show done before disaster strikes his digestive tract. Novel month continues on, featuring great interviews with F. Paul Wilson (The Keep, the Repairman Jack series) and Mark Justice (Deadneck Hootenanny, Dead Earth: The Green Dawn, host of Pod of Horror). Plus, Des reviews Horrors of War, a new period horror film. E-mails and messages are answered, and the following terrifying tunes are played: "Jangling Jack" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, "Inferno" by Miranda Sex Garden, "The Exorcist" by The Hellacopters and "Dies Irae" by Stories from the Moon. 21. As it pertains to the fall of Geneon USA, one of the biggest anime distributors in the world, two questions need to be asked. One: Does this mean that all Geneon DVDs are going to be pulled from store shelves? Two: Which company, if any, will grab the titles that are still in production? The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/articles/geneon
  22. In "Sideshow" Killer Croc makes some friends, while someone attempts to murder Detective Harvey Bullock in "A Bullet for Bullock."
