Aladdin (1992) vs. The Mummy (1999)

    ooooooooooooohhhhhh.........

I'm going to say The Mummy on the basis it's almost a live-action cartoon that captured lightning in a bottle. Aladdin is a favourite Disney movie but I'm going to have to hear POYW to confirm why it should be, objectively, considered top tier.

  2. Yes, you can help influence not only the film Pandy & I use as the joint review, but the homework we assign each other to plot the range of their career. As announced in Episode 94, our subject will be Viola Davis.

Pandy & I will take an executive decision on what makes the joint review by 21 April 2023 so get your ideas in before then!

Recently I discovered the law firm I work for has a client who used to own the pool hall I frequented from 1995-1997. The client sold it in 1999, so it's long been out of his hands, but it gave me one of those "Whoa! Small world!" moments.

I had something similar in my previous job to do with a dental practice in the suburb of Derby where the previous Fort Wilson was situated - I would pass it frequently when going to the pub or buying cans for home. Given that job of mine was based in my current city of Newcastle over 200 miles away, that was a surprise!

Baron Corbin has been de-pushed again and WWE feels he has no real potential for star power.

The problem is not Corbin, but the booking. He gets a little push, then he is made to look like a clown, and then falls back down the card. Rinse and repeat.

Obviously the fans don't take the character seriously when he is pushed, as there is no confidence that he will not be booked like a total loser again in a couple months. But despite the incompetent booking, the higher-ups will never admit they are wrong.

It is a testament to Sami Zayn's charisma that he has endured being booked like a clown for years and is still in the hottest feud in WWE right now.

Not sure Corbin is the WWE booking hill to die on. If we're going to directly compare to Zayn, then Corbin has no indie background whatsoever - he came to NXT straight from American Football - and therefore hasn't learned the ropes of getting over naturally the way Zayn has. As well as being a WWE product his entire career, he's also been a heel throughout (unless I'm mistaken) so he has an uphill battle with connecting with audiences as a top star. I'm not saying it can't be done with that background, as The Miz will show (I know he's had the odd face run since he was WWE champ).

Barring a massive injury spree, I don't see a spot for Corbin above the midcard, be that the reality of the situation as you describe or because of his own limitations as a wrestling superstar (or both). As you allude to, a true star can largely work with clownish material and come away largely unscathed - Zayn currently, but look at the majority of Jericho's 2010s within the WWE; you don't see Jericho's bankability nowadays suffering because he jobbed to Fandango at Wrestlemania 29.

Has Corbin's booking been wildly inconsistent? Absolutely. But there's at least 10-15 guys ahead of him in the pecking order to hold one of the top belts, and that's because they have more potential or a proven track record. And I don't anticipate the higher-ups will care about being wrong, especially as it presupposes the notion that they are wrong not to push Corbin to be a credible main eventer.
