The New Guy (1/8)

  1. The best thing about The Time of the Doctor is that it isn't The End of Time! Moffat knows how to end a Doctor's era in fine style.
  2. That's a great idea. I was musing on Tom Baker's desire to appear in the new series as The Master. Seems he might have achieved it! This could be the less malevolent Master after The Curse of Fatal Death...
  3. It's not too surprising that Ford and Zaphod share a lot of the same characteristics, since they also share several of the same mothers.
  4. I don't think anyone can really comment on sexism in Moffat's work until they have at least watched "Coupling"...
  5. Number One is strangely close to ideas that Barry Letts and Roger Sloman were considering for the final Master (Delgado/Pertwee) story... that the Master and the Doctor were two sides of a single personality, something along the lines of the Ego and the Id.
  6. Not to jump too far ahead, but there was a big furore about the Doctor's actions in "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship", towards the David Bradley character - I think there was even a Radio Times poll garnering viewers' reactions to the moral (or immoral) actions of the Doctor. So it will be interesting to see how that one compares.
  7. I'm entirely sure that ganger-Amy isn't a proper ganger, but instead a remote-controlled ganger body that real-Amy is living through. So it wasn't a real separate sentient entity. Yes, weren't the acid-factory gangers given independent life during that solar storm? Yet it didn't have the same effect on Amy's ganger, because she kept seeing Madame Kovarian and her sliding-window afterwards, so was still being remote-controlled. That's how I understood it, though to be fair a lot of this season and the next is just baffling and I could be wrong.
  8. True; and the Doctor exists as an idea (even when he's "officially dead" later on, too). Maybe there is some link with Time Lords "in many ways, having the same mind" as per the Master/Doctor link, and the TL's on Gallifrey having a link even through their time-bubble to The Master (and he to the Doctor, and the Doctor to River, etc, not to mention Romana in E-Space perhaps!) so it's impossible to erase every vestige of them from the universe. There are even the communications-cubes in House's blister-universe, which operate telepathically. So if Amy reboots the entire universe from an idea/memory, maybe River was the memory of a memory (being her daughter, perhaps a fairly strong subconscious one)... or something. A lot less to animate than a universe, anyway. If the ruddy Daleks can survive annihilation in Time Wars over and over again then the Doctor deserves to
  9. Perhaps she fell through a crack when the TARDIS blew up.
  10. It does feature the return to Doctor Who of June Brown - star of Pertwee's "The Time Warrior" (Lady Eleanor). And a return to Eastenders' Albert Square (of Dimension in Time fame).
  11. I can't believe I've finally caught up. What am I going to listen to now?? And such a stormingly good episode too. Really made me want to watch these episodes/mini-sodes again (well, maybe not the National Television Awards thing!).
  12. Sheffield artist uses comics worth £20,000 for artwork the pages pasted to a leg were from a first edition of The Avengers. More: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-23203033
  13. Seems strange that she's only ever met two Doctors though, and can't work out which is the earlier one.
  14. Bob Dylan plays acting roles in about seven movies! The pedant in me couldn't let that pass! Masked and Anonymous (2003) .... Jack Fate Paradise Cove (1999) .... Alfred - Chauffeur Catchfire (1990) (uncredited) .... Artist Hearts of Fire (1987) .... Billy Parker Renaldo and Clara (1978) .... Renaldo Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) .... Alias The Madhouse on Castle Street (1963) (TV) .... Bobby
  15. I've been enjoying the Mind of Evil DVD - at last in full colo(u)r, Mr Roger Delgado!! Hope Mike and Dan will mention it on a future BOTI...
