    Infinite Crisis

So, is everyone around here as hyped for Infinite Crisis as I am? And this is coming from a guy who has never been into DC all that much aside from Batman. The dude at the comic book shop recommended I pick up DC Countdown. His rationale--"Dude, even if you hate it it's only a buck." So I gave it a shot. Despite generally not knowing what in the fuck was going on (I really didn't know any of the Identity Crisis stuff--I haven't read it, waiting for the trade--except for the Sue Dibny murder and the Batman mindwipe which a comic book nerd like me knows through osmosis), I really dug it. Dug it enough to buy the OMAC book, the Villains United book, the Day of Vengeance book (which is so damn awesome--probably my favorite comic of the year so far), and the Rann/Thanagar War book (where I really do not know what the fuck is going on, but the art by Ivan Reis is just spectacular). And hell, now I for the first time ever I bought a Wonder Woman book (#219) and dug it too. I think what I like about this stuff is that despite not knowing what is going on with the character histories and whatnot, the talent creating the books is just phenomenal. Bill Willingham has taken a team with a dude with a raggedy cloak, a witch, a blue devil, an old dude with a sword, a hot chick with no discernable personality or powers other than she shoots out black stuff and can teleport, and an alcoholic Detective Chimp and turned it into some of the finest drama I have ever seen in a comic book in Day of Vengeance. Get that book while you still can, people. It's that rad. OMAC had really made me reconsider my stance on Superman and Wonder Woman--basically, I thought they were boring ass generic heroes. Here, Superman is totally falliable and Wonder Woman is the hero willing to cross the line. I've picked up some JLA stuff too (Zatanna--what a cool character). And the Donna Troy special. DC is really, really just rolling as a company right now. Marvel I don't think is going anything nearly as good (save for maybe Astonishing X-Men and anything John Romita Jr. draws), House of M is nowhere near as good of a crossover, and for once this Marvel lifer is saying that DC is putting out better stuff. Yeah, part of me is a victim of the marketing (I hate it usually when you have to buy hella obscure books to get the whole story), but the comic fan in me is also really excited too. All the talents involved with the build-up to Infinite Crisis are knocking it out of the park and putting out some of the best comics I have ever read. I can't wait to see how it all pans out.
  2. I'll say the Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury. If only because the regular Fury in the Marvel U. is being characterized more and more like the one in the Ultimate U. However, Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., by Jim Steranko, far surpasses anything that Ultimate Fury has been in. The maze panel rules!
  3. Yep. It's true. Clint Barton, Hawkeye, is dead. On the cover of Avengers #502, they said that either Hawkeye, Wasp, Hank Pym, or Scarlet Witch would die. If Bendis would have killed Wanda Maximoff I would have never read anything he ever wrote ever again (including Ultimate Spidey). I was hoping that it would be Hank Pym or Wasp, cause I've always thought that Hawkeye was great, especially as a foil to the Avengers cut in the mold of Captain America. Still, Hawkeye goes out like a champ, singlehandedly bringing down a big ass Kree ship. Great death--I hope Marvel doesn't cheapen it like they did with Colossus.
  4. If Marvel can release six issues over twelve months I'll be impressed. The Ultimates Year Two should be splendid. I've heard among other things that Captain America and Wasp are now an item. What I would like to see happen is someone knock the shit out of Captain America. He's a fucking jingoistic bastard, and the biggest prick in the Ultimate universe. I'd also like to see more on Ultimate Thor. He's the biggest mystery in the Ultimates thus far. Plus, with his seemingly new-agey and pacifist roots, Thor and Captain America should be naturals to come into conflict.
  5. I've never really been interested in selling any of my comics. What I really wanted to know was if the book was actually worth that much or was it Wizard hype (I'm inclined to believe the latter).
  6. Exactly. One of the more misguided ideas in X-Men lore, I think but since we were on the topic of Cerebro... Balls in your court, Ragenerok.
  7. The Beast should always be an X-Man. Why? Well, for starters, he's one of the original X-Men. I wouldn't vouch for Thor or Wasp as an X-Man or something like that. Second, Henry McCoy is a better teacher than a world traveling hero (athough he's good at that too). Since the X-Men reside at a school, a school would be the best place for his talents. Third, The Avengers already have a doctor/scientist named Hank. Whenver Hank Pym and Hank McCoy are in the same comic book I get confused. Lastly, I've never enjoyed how any Avengers artist has depicted The Beast. George Perez rendition of the Beast is especially irksome (although I think the rest of what Perez draws is fabulous).
  8. Here's a new question, also X-Men related. When Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Kitty Pryde returned to the X-Men after Excalibur disbanded, Kitty was abducted by a group of "X-Men". Name them.
  9. I think District X is the best of the Reload books. Even much better than the Joss Whedon Astonishing X-Men. District X has a very unique POV and cool take on the familiar X-Men themes. I also like how the team of David Hardin, David Yine, and Alejandro Sicat really goes into depth on one of Grant Morrisson's coolest ideas in New X-Men: mutant town.
  10. That would be most excellent. Like in the Alien Quadrilogy. There's the original, unaltered release along with the "Director's Cut". Lucas would be wise to do this.
  11. It was Banshee. He dismantled Cerebro in the "Phalanx Covenant" storyline because he didn't want Cerebro to become infected by the Phalanx collective thus putting at risk yet to be indentified/contacted mutants. UXM #316, I believe. What do I win?
  12. Yeah, I knew that the 2099 books weren't going to be resurrected but made into one-shots under the Marvel Knights line. I was never a huge 2099 fan, but was astonished to read that SM2099 was $62. You always find 2099 books in quarter bins and stuff.
  13. Get a copy of the "Coming Home" trade, going over ASM (vol. 2) #30-#35. It's the best Spider-Man story in twenty years, and brings you nicely up to speed as to what is going on in Spidey's life. The great writing by J. Michael Straczynski and even greater (and career best) artwork by John Romita Jr. is the clincher.
  14. Wolverine on the Avergers is wrong on so many levels. This reeks of mimicking the Distinguished Competition.
  15. Bringing back Colossus was stupid. His death allowed the Legacy Virus to be cured. The cure to the Legacy Virus ushered in the "New X-Men" era. There would never have been an "e for extinction" storyline if the Legacy Virus hadn't cured all those mutates on Genosha. Colossus coming back was such a stupid idea. Psylocke I could have lived with (but it looks like she'll be coming back in Uncanny). Having him be alive undermines everything Morrison set up. I don't feel Whedon really gives two shits about continuity. That's why i don't like Hollywood guys writing comics. They have an innate need to fuck up everything or put out books at a snails pace. J. Michael Straczynski on Amazing Spidey is the only exception to this rule.
  16. I don't think Liefeld ripped him off. Besides ripping shit off happens all the time in comics (Generation X/Gen 13, Prowler/Spawn/Nightwatch, etc.). I actually like Liefeldd when he is drawing Cable and the X-Force characters. he really has a place in his heart ofr those characters. I agree that Liefeld has some serious deficiencies as a storyteller (and in drawing feet), but I thought that he's been a better pin-up guy (like J. Scott Campbell) than stroyteller (ala John Romita Jr.). Cable #75 is I think Liefeld's best work on the character.
  17. Hey guys. In the latest Wizard I saw a short article talking about Spider-Man 2099. With the 2099 universe being resurrected for a few books later this year, I assume that's why SM2009 got the mention, cause 2099 books have been dead forever. Anyway, what surprised me was that Wizard said SM2099 was worth $62 in Near Mint! :OMG: I own the book (as well as all the 2099 #1's) and was just wondering if the value was true (Wizard so exaggerates). Or if anyone knows a reliable online price guide that would be sweet.
  18. Which time? Cerebro's been destroyed more than once. It was between uncanny 300 and 360, Didn't Cerebro get destroyed during the Zero Tolerance storyline around XM 65-70? I would have to go with Bastion then.
  19. Wolverine with the adamantium is simply the classic Wolverine. However, this issue of Wolverine: where we first discover his claws are bone, is my single favorite comic issue ever. Good first post, I say. P.S.: Where on this board is the Custom Member Title feature like on the Oratory boards?
