  1. The Master is far and away the best, creepiest, most evil villain the show has ever seen. Unlike the Daleks or the Cybermen, who've had emotion bred out of them, the Master is making a conscious choice to do the things he does. And there's the "long lost best friend of the hero turned evil" angle to think about.

Furthermore, he's been played in many ways. Roger Delgado was smooth, charming and likable despite everything. Anthony Ainley was batshit crazy (when he wasn't being forced to play a mustache twirling pantomime villain). And John Simm ably took qualities from both. Monsters are all well and good, but give me a good criminal mastermind any day.

AND he killed a guy with a bean bag chair.

That's how you know he's eeeeeeeeeevil.

Yeah, I agree so far, but The Mara could really fuck up your mind.

  2. Long assed rant ahead.

I really am getting sick and tired of living at home, I have no privacy and my mum keeps shouting at me about every little thing and just driving me nuts for no apparant reason. I can't tell her I dropped out because I just didn't have any passion for the course and couldn't afford to do something I was paying for by myself if I had no passion for the subject. My financial situation since my ex-uni took tuition fees unjustly from me and pretty much f-ing things up for me from now, till the end of time. The fact that I am in a gya relationship with someone who is of a different religion is also going to cause so many fucking terrible things, just thinking about it is making me feel so ill. I just wish I could leave home and never look back.

To give you a brief idea of what i deal with. My room is on a different floor from my mum, yet she still makes her way to my room to walk in, kick over my trash can and flip off all the switches in my room. I have no privacy here, it really is stressing me out so bloody badly.

There's always telling your parents, esp. your mom what doing those things do to you, and if that doesn't work, put a deadbolt on your door. LOL.

  3. Oh man! That reminds me of the girl I "dated" on and off during high school. For our first outing, we planned to see a show after school. When we met up, however, she said she had to stop by a friend's house first. I thought, "No big deal. We'll be there for a few minutes, then we'll be off." Uh... no. Turns out she made two dates... on the same day... at the same time... without telling either of us guys.

Somehow he took it in stride, while I did not.

Really, that should have been a sign that she was bad news, but I was too young and stupid (and horny) to walk away from what was obviously going to be a messy situation.

He should have walked away too, because she dated him for five or six years, and cheated on him every chance she got.

Sounds like my first fiancee, not the double dating, but the cheating.

  4. So I bought this series off a site that sells dvds for many cartoon series that can not be found on store shelves (if you want it pm me and I'll give it to you). I was weary considering how unreliable many of these sites are but I did my research and found that many people have had no problem from this site. I decided to give it a go.

Anyways, I've had this 4-disc set of X-men the Animated Series for about a half a year now and I wanted to rewatch the series. I figure with the holiday and the break from school, now is as good a time as any. I loved this show when I was younger, I loved this show about 6 years ago when I rewatched some episodes in my freshman year in college, and hopefully I'll love this show now.

So in here I'll be posting my thoughts on the series as I move along. Whee.

Episodes 1-2: Night of the Sentinels

I have these first two episodes practically memorized because I've seen them so many times (remember that promotion with Pizza Hut selling two VHS tapes from a long time ago, yeah, the only reason I've ever been to Pizza Hut).

Although the first half is used to introduce the characters of the X-men team through the eyes of the ultra-annoying Jubilee, it was a good idea, that I think was later utilized in the first X-men film with Wolverine/Rogue being introduced to the X-men. There's a long build-up to Wolverine as you don't even see him until the danger room fight with Gambit halfway through the episode, but it immediately sets him up as an awesome bad ass, which is why it's so funny that Jubilee knocks him off Gambit, with Beast and Morph laughing at him.

The first episode does a great job introducing the characters but there's way too much annoying Jubilee. The second episode kicks it up a notch as not only is there an awesome fight sequence with team's mission turning into an absolute disaster, it's also a pretty dark no-nonsense episode with the arrest of Beast and the killing of morph. The second fight at the sentinel factory is just so the episode doesn't end on an absolute morbid note and allows the team to get a little bit of retribution but doesn't compare to the battle at the mutant registration facility.

Overall, the quieter moments are more awesome than the action with Jubilee talking about the first time she kissed a boy, about what happened when her dad found out, the short fight between Professor X and Cyclops about the morality of the mission, and the short glares and scuffles between Cyclops and Wolvie, and of course, the various methods of mourning (or in Wolvie's case, AVENGING) morph.

The animation itself isn't that great, it's a bit choppy at times, but it's certainly not unwatchable. You won't marvel at it like Batman's animation, but it won't want to make you check your internet connection like Scooby Doo or Speed Racer.

These episodes are used to establish the tone, themes, and setting of the X-men world...but at the same time establishes the characters of the X-men and it does it ALL pretty well I might add. It's unfortunate that one of those characters is Jubilee and much of the episodes hinges on her involvement, from her being chased by sentinels in the mall, to her roaming the X-men halls, to her capture and rescue at the sentinel factory, which resulted in an underwhelming battle.

    8.5

Next up the double feature involving Magneto (Enter Magneto and Deadly Ruins).

Um, hate to be a rain on anyone's parade but can I offer a caveat about sites offering series that can't be found in stores? Odds are they are illegal bootlegs and of poor quality. I hear thing like this all the time on the Johnny cash.com radio show about bootlegs of the Johnny Cash TV show on DVD. All I'm saying to all of you is be careful.

  5. Live and Let Die helps push FYEO past the three-hour mark for the first time, for many reasons: there's a new Bond in Roger Moore, there's a certain film called Quantum of Solace to cover and even a tertiary guest presenter in Andy "Pandy" Wilson, which makes for more discussion and an a cappella partner for Adham. Ian, meanwhile, gets ticked off about one particular character. [ 3:04:59 || 84.6 MB ]

    The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/foryourear...arsonly_008.mp3

I quite liked Pandy being on. In many ways he's a lot more fun to listen to than Ian . All goofy jabs aside, I liked the stereo whistles for the Shag alarm, and I can't look at a Bond film without thinking of Adham's whistle

  6. It's the original theme, which can be found pretty easily online.

I know it's stupid to ask this because you've never changed the WFP theme, but when you hit the modern series (Doctor 9-infinity) will you play the modern theme?

  7. I was looking at my comics and noticed that I had read most of them multiple times, except one.

I call it my black sheep trade, a book I read once and never wanted to read again.

Everyone has one, so post in here what that one trade that sits on your shelf or where you keep your comics that whenever you look at it you say "That's X I'm never going to see again...."

That one you can't even make up some crap excuse why you have it. Examples of this are:

I own the first three final crisis trades because Des and Mike talk about them at length in episodes of Earth-2.net the show and I like to read along to what they say.

Awful excuse but it justifies it to me.

But there’s one, I can't or don't want to justify. The worst part is, it's the first one I ever bought:

Batman: face the face (I don't count that piece of crap murder at Wayne manor as it's more of a crap book, than a crap comic)

The story is of someone killing people and the return of batman and Two-face taking over Harvey Dent again.

It sounds interesting, hence why I bought it.

But when I started to read it, I was left wondering what the hell was going on, the story made no sense and barely attempted an explanation.

The ending was terrible and I was left wondering what the hell was going on.

    So that's mine, what's yours?

    Anything with the red/blue superman

  8. In any case after seeing the last episode of S1 of BB, I have to say that Blight's response to Terry telling him that he killed his father was fricking bad-ass. Right up there with (sorry for one of you guys' continued mental health from head meeting desk too many times) Joker telling Bats in Batman '89 that he killed a lot of people when Bats said the same thing to him.

  9. Notes made whilst listening-

Oh Bodger & Badger, the worst tv show with the most infectiously annoying theme tune ever.

Noel Edmunds House Party might have been raw sewage as entertainment but you've got to admit they had some good concepts. Before Mr Blobby became a genuine chirldrens attraction he was just a spoof, totally designed to Punk celebrities back when Kutcher was still learning his abc's.

"We shall do to Moonraker what god did to Hull"

Blockbusters is actually relevent, Bob Holness played James Bond in a radio adaptation of Moonraker in 1956.

Adham is starting to make Bond himself look like a hardcore feminist by comparison.

What exactly is on Adham's list of things to do before he is 30?

Well we could pester Ian about it until he tells us about Adham's list... As for Connery, he was okay, but I will have to agree he looks bored to be there. I bet he thought George was going to stick around a while.

  10. I'm fully on favor of a South Park podcast. Put your life on hold James, this needs to be made.

A South Park podcast??? Wow, you really want to hold onto the Explicit monniker on your downloads don't you. "Shut your fucking face, uncle fucker!!!!" LOL

  11. Don't you hate it when a TV show has a good thing going and they kill the only person who kept the hero/heroine anchored? They killed Melinda's husband Jim in Ghost Whisperer! WTF did they do that for? I'm stopping watching that show! :grumble:

Huh. I thought there were only two reasons people watched Ghost Whisperer.

    :rimshot:

Some guys aren't interested in those things. Whenever I see her I'm afraid she's going to fall over...

  12. Don't you hate it when a TV show has a good thing going and they kill the only person who kept the hero/heroine anchored? They killed Melinda's husband Jim in Ghost Whisperer! WTF did they do that for? I'm stopping watching that show! :grumble:

  13. Personally, I liked Lazenby's Bond and wished he had done more. He should have been next in the Bond series before Moore, but that's MHO. Anyway, I have stopped watching any Bond films since Craig took over. Those movies suck.

Out of interest, do you mean to say that Bond films of late (say, from the 90s onwards) have sucked and you don't watch the Craig films as a result, or that you hated Casino Royale so much that you won't see the current film? Am not calling you right or wrong - just curious to see what you mean.

I mean that the Craig film, Casino Royale was badly done from bringing a blonde Bond in to having Judi (y?) Dench still playing M. If they were going to go back to the beginning M should be a man...Brosnan was the best Bond IMHO.

The casting of Judi Dench as M in a new Bond continuity is admittedly somewhat counter-productive to casual Bond fans, but in that the film series is notoriously wretched at sticking to much of a continuity, I can pretty much accept it. The points Adham & I made in this episode about Blofeld not recognising Bond is pretty much a perfect example of this. In any case, I certainly disagree that M has to be a man if the film is focusing on the beginnings of the character

It'd make more sense if they were to do it like Doctor Who, but since they can't they burn a lot of Bond Fans by not explaining why they decided to go back to the beginning and just think that we are going to say, "oh another Bond film and he's blonde, and we don't know why we're back in the cold war, okay! Humper, dumper, do..."

If you say beforehand "this going back to Bond's origins", then I think Bond fans and critics alike will get it - those that don't simply have to follow the plot within the film. Because Bond isn't sci-fi (unless you count Q branch, and Moonraker), you can't simply regenerate the lead actor - you have to re-invent them instead. The Craig iteration of Bond is not just another reinvention of the character but a reboot as well, almost exactly like Christian Bale as Batman. Now if you don't like Craig because he's not Brosnan, or because he's blonde, or because his take on Bond is VERY different to the previous films, then that's your opinion and I won't deride you for it. But the current Bond producers certainly deserve a lot more credit than they're being given because they've pretty much rescued the franchise from self-parody - which is EXACTLY what Die Another Day felt like.

Okay I will admit Die Another Day was scaping the bottom of the barrel.
